I've been looking at getting one of these supposedly "next-gen" consoles for a bit of party play - PC's are fun and all, but there's just as much to be said for having a laugh with your mates/brother in the same room.
One thing's baffled me, though; why do people keep coming up with stuff like "360 rocks PS3's sh1t"? I ask because I went to price up the two systems online yesterday, and was a bit shocked, really.
First, i'll clarify. The arguments I hear in the 360's favour are pretty much these:
- "More games to choose from"
- "Cheaper"
Now, the reasons i'm baffled:
- PS3, two wireless sixaxis controllers, Resistance, Motorstorm, DiRT, Blu-Ray Movie & HDMI cable - £450
- Double pack of quickcharge/play cables - £6.99
- Thrustmaster PS3 WiFi USB Key (is this needed to play online? I'm using a wireless router) - 24.99
Total: £481.98 max - if wireless adaptor is needed. If not, put in a bluetooth headset, even though I could do without listening to wittering retards. $963.96 in Monopoly money.
- 360 elite - with HDMI, to bring it to PS3-standard output - £299. One wireless controller.
- 360 HD-DVD player - ~£99
- 360 "play 'n' charge" kit - £12.99 to £14.99, depending on whether you get the Elite version or not.
- Official wireless 360 adaptor - £54.99
- Second wireless controller - £32.99
- Second battery pack for use with the "play 'n' charge" - £9.99
- XBox Live 12 Month Gold Membership Card - £34.99
- Three games to match the PS3 package - 3x £39.99
- Similar HD-DVD - £17.99
Total: £681.91. $1363.82. All of this to make it comparable to what the PS3 offers above.
even without the extras that I need, such as the wireless dongles, rechargable packs (why are fucking shop-bought AAs standard?) it comes to more than the PS3. On top of that, from what I hear, you have to worry about the 360 even working, and when it does it supposedly deafens you.
Am I missing something beside the extra 60Gb HDD space which has clearly only been put there so MS can say "twice the storage of the PS3"? I know i'm never going to have 120Gb worth of demos, the damn things get deleted when they're boring/the game's out.
Or, more basically, since there's probably a saving on the PS3 package:
- PS3, with one controller, High-def video playback as standard, and a Blu-Ray movie: £399/$798
- 360 with one controller, aftermarket-style HD-DVD player and an HD-DVD movie: £415.99/$831.98
As for games: subjective.
Just curious. Looking at it more closely i'm more inclined to splash out on a PS3 since the only eye-catching exclusive on the 360 is Halo 3, for the co-op. Everything else that I wouldn't term "uninteresting" or "bargain bin" is also available on the PS3.
Is everyone just missing this or is 60Gb storage really worth it?
Little edit to save some of you a bit of time: i'm asking for informed, justified, quantified and anything-else-sensible-ified responses, not "I bought a 360 and am now going to act like Bill Gates personally cut my Umbilical" responses.
