Just to add, I did get my hands on a pair of HS22s w/ 2xE5540 (2.533GHz) temporarily. Should be able to hang on to them for a few weeks. Took me a while to figure out that having hyper-threading enabled in ESX was preventing the VMs from ramping up the CPU. I hope to get some sweet frame times with them.

Now that all the stats are in for all my boxen HFM.NET is telling me 106k PPD!![]()

Is it windows OS, one VM, with Hyperthreading off?
VMware ESXi 4.0 with that slackware linux -bigadv VM that's floating around. Hyper-threading is off, it didn't work at all with it on.
Add more CPU volts. And stability test with IBT instead of Prime, its usage pattern is much closer to the SMP client than Prime is.

I wish that were true, but I'm not convinced that would be the case. I think something else is going on.it's also slow because HT is off
Were he using native Linux client with all 16 cores on, he'd be making times in the mid 20's or so

Yep, agreed. To get around the 20 minutes mark you need more horsepower. Probably something with 16 actual cores pushing the 3GHz threshold.I wish that were true, but I'm not convinced that would be the case. I think something else is going on.
With dual 5530 2.4ghz, HT on, running native Ubuntu 9.04 with 12GB RAM, this guy is only getting 33 mins per frame.

I'm very sure it's possible but probably running HT and higher clocks. Do you remember any ballpark frequencies?I was sugessti g 25-28 TPF times, not 20 flat, that would be nuts LOL

Try it if you have the time. Maybe the advantage is greater than I expect, you never know. There could also be useful information gained. Not many people have these kinds of systems and it would be very interesting to note the differences between various installations and setups.If i was going to have the HS22s longer than 2 weeks I would. Its its just going to be slightly faster I'd rather not as I'm not exactly 'nix friendly.![]()
