I'm building a new PC for my sister in law using:

Gigabyte P35 DS3L
E6600 duo core
Stock intel cooler
2x1gb Corsair XMS DDR2 800 memory
EVGA 7600GT video card
2 x 250gb Samsung SATA hard drives
Seasonic S12 600w power supply

I plan on running it at stock or maybe a slight OC to 2.7 Ghz (from the stock 2.4)

After running Prime on both cores, the bios reports roughly 50deg C, Easy tune reports roughly 52 deg C. However, when I run Coretemp, it's reporting between 60-63 deg C. Speedfan reports about the same as Coretemp. Which is correct??

Thanks for your input

Coretemp and Speedfan report your CPU core temps. That is what matters. The temp that the BIOS reports is a sensor in between the two cores.

Go with Coretemp and Speedfan :)

sheeeeet

guess I'm gonna have to uninstall the stock cooler and put on an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro instead. Knew I should've done it in the beginning, but I was trying to save a couple of bucks.

Thanks

I'm get 50c on core temp under load on orthos on stock hsf 2.7ghz. Could it be your case not getting enough air flow. I'm using the cm690 with 6 fans. (so your YMMV)

whats ur ambient room temperature? ive had my pc out in open air when the temperature is 1C and my load temps at 2.4 are still above 50C

The temp that the BIOS reports is a sensor in between the two cores.

I believe this is an imaginary sensor which is usually at a delta of -10C from the hottest core? They report the Tcase, which is supposed to be measured by a thermocouple in the centre of the IHS, but no-one actually has a thermocouple there in normal operation.

well ,

Swapped out the stock to an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro along with some MX2 TIM. After running Prime 95 for about 5 hrs, I'm maxing out between 59-60 deg C (temp in my house is about 67 deg F) with my E6600 mildly overclocked to 2.7Ghz. When idling, I'm at about 34-36 deg C. Since this computer will seldom (if ever) be pushed that far, I think this will be OK. Even though the stock fan would've probably been OK, quiet was something I was looking for also so the Freezer Pro won in that department.

Thanks for all your replies/ help.

Those temps still sound rather high for that ambient temp. You might want to look into making sure the heatsink is mounted properly and the thermal goop is applied correctly. You really shouldn't be getting temps that high unless there is no airflow in the case.

Originally I had an E6400 with the stock fan and similar ambient temp and with an overclock to 3.2Ghz with a lot of voltage I was hitting around 65C full load.

I don't think you should be hitting those load temps with that heatsink. It's a pretty decent midrange heatsink and a lot better than the stock Intel.

I agree with SmokeRngs and my room temp is about 68 degrees F. When i had it o'c at 3.0ghz i got 57c and nothing has change with room or pc.atm i'm idling at 30c, you should be doing better then me with that ACF7Pro.

I have the same case... I get 42*c with 5 fans. and I have a higher oc.. Whats the deal with that?

I'm using a Coolermaster Wavemaster with 2 - 80mm intakes in front, 1 - 80mm outtake on top and 1 - 80mm outtake in the rear. I may have to play around with the type/ cfm of fans used. I may even have to cut a hole in the side panel plexiglass to bring in some more cooling.

Orrrrr maybe I'll just run it at stock since it's not for me anyway:D
