Which Ryzen?

Ryzen 1700 overall, the usual slight single thread adv. to i7 and huge multithread adv. 1700. depends on what you are doing of course.

what ^ said..... thought I would like to add, I see no reason why you shouldn't just bump up to 2700 if finances allow.... healthy boost to memory bandwidth, SLIGHT....ipc increase ......only like 80$ more in price...yet still 60$ or so less then a i7 7700....

but if on a budget, ya what Mega6 said.

219 vs 294

Get the 8700K you're going to get more use out of it than a 2700x.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700X/3937vs3958

Plus, it's 10% faster at stock speeds. All of the 8700K get 4.8Ghz guaranteed. Which puts the 8700K @ 15 to 20% faster.

Same price or maybe $10 or $15 more dollars. It's $299 at Microcenter. Newegg will match Microcenter. Possibly Amazon.

Most people do not use the 2 extra cores. I think I read 1% of users do?

If your going to be on your desktop surfing, email, music, movies, youtube and gaming then the 8700K is the only real choice here.

Even if you were encoding 24/7 ... CAD rendering, the 8700K is still going to be right there.

I agree with you but I went with AMD this time just to support the other team and go for something different. This is just a hobby for me but for people who want absolute max performance to price ratio Intel is still the way to go for gaming.

I've had both. You can't really tell the difference between the two in normal operation. I have a 4k monitor, so it's not like I notice the gaming difference either.

I bought one of the 250 dollar 2700x eBay deals. Great CPU even the stock cooling is nice with it. Took awhile for shipping but it arrived brand new in box. Maybe eBay will do another coupon soon to compete with prime day?

That'd be nice.... Time to break the piggy bank

Get the 2700x, just do it. You'll be happy, even if it means a couple more buckeroos. It's a beast.

I got a 2700 off the Amazon deal for Prime Day. Just need to go find some RAM now.

edit: which unfortunately being a new sign-up, I can't get from the for sale forum though I see Vader has just what I need.../sigh
