I'm gonna be a jackass yet realistic and say that most of those who hated Far Cry 2 went to piratebay on that one... See the thing with that game was that singleplayer was very repetitive and felt like you were in a big homogenic sandbox with the same groups of enemies on sporadic locations. Multiplayer on the other hand was fun, felt like medal of honor / Counter-Strike in beautiful environments. Your character would level up and there was a ranking system. Not very revolutionary but solid fun. Sorry for beating this horse again but I really never could agree with the level of hate people had for this game, and they also always only had comments on singleplayer. Go figure.
That's a really unfair assumption. Also, this goes along with my beef with the state of multiplayer gaming in general. My problem is the implied necessity for multiplayer and why EVERY game is expected to have one. I hate when a reviewer will give a game negative marks for either not having multiplayer or not having a robust multiplayer. Far Cry 2 was never pushed for its multiplayer component in any way that I can remember. They pushed their single player component, because that was the intended core of the game. I can assure you that most people did not buy Far Cry 2 with the hopes of the multiplayer portion being worth a damn, because they're all already playing TF2, Modern Warfare, Battlefield or even Crysis Wars. Far Cry multiplayer was an afterthought for the developer and for the user.
