Which Far Cry ???

I'm gonna be a jackass yet realistic and say that most of those who hated Far Cry 2 went to piratebay on that one... See the thing with that game was that singleplayer was very repetitive and felt like you were in a big homogenic sandbox with the same groups of enemies on sporadic locations. Multiplayer on the other hand was fun, felt like medal of honor / Counter-Strike in beautiful environments. Your character would level up and there was a ranking system. Not very revolutionary but solid fun. Sorry for beating this horse again but I really never could agree with the level of hate people had for this game, and they also always only had comments on singleplayer. Go figure.

That's a really unfair assumption. Also, this goes along with my beef with the state of multiplayer gaming in general. My problem is the implied necessity for multiplayer and why EVERY game is expected to have one. I hate when a reviewer will give a game negative marks for either not having multiplayer or not having a robust multiplayer. Far Cry 2 was never pushed for its multiplayer component in any way that I can remember. They pushed their single player component, because that was the intended core of the game. I can assure you that most people did not buy Far Cry 2 with the hopes of the multiplayer portion being worth a damn, because they're all already playing TF2, Modern Warfare, Battlefield or even Crysis Wars. Far Cry multiplayer was an afterthought for the developer and for the user.

I like the wide open world and how it allows you to approach situations in vastly different ways. You can sit up on a rock with a sniper rifle and pick off all the soldiers at a checkpoint, you can lob grenades at them and blow the whole place up, you can run in with your assault rifle blazing and shoot them all at close range, or you can even just blast through it in your truck and hope to outrun them before they start chasing you.

...and when your done with your sniper and run back down to your truck the enemies respawn before you get to the check point.

FC2 just was TERRIBLE with the way it handled the checkpoints. I run through and clear out the bad guys on the way to a house or something just over a ridge past said check point...when I get done there and come back past the same check point maybe 15 minutes later IT IS FULLY RESPAWNED (#^(#^*$). What the hell did they call 1-800-BAD-GUYS to replenish the random mercs at the check points as soon as I roll off-screen? At least wait 1 full day to respawn god.

Also am I the only one that thought the cover system in FC1 was fantastic? I thought it was the best cover system I have played with to date...it was simple and effective.

Yes, you are being a jackass assuming that - I have not one but TWO legit versions of the Craptastic FC2. I bought one on Steam pre-purchase and got one with my GTX 260. Unfortunately I can't hate it 2x as much because I own two copies.

On a side note - have there been any good community patches to FC2 single player that fix shit like the respawns?

Far Cry for the PC was easily my favorite game of 2004 and is defiantly in my top 5 of all time.

I know its over a month old but I have to add the fact that it's one of the only linear multi's that ive played and really wish there were more. You captured flags in order and it felt like you were acomplishing something. BF style is fun but at the same time you feel like all you do is run back and forth fighting over the same points and just waiting for the tickets to run out..

I prefered the normal marines to the mutant BS that happens later, but even as a more down to earn hunting marines type game it was still awkward, you could empty a whole clip into their chest and they'd just flinch. If it was a bit more realistic I probably would have liked it more.

PC is always better game play wise. I haven't played the Xbox version although so I can't comment on the story or other differences. BTW I played FC2 and loved it! The huge open map and open game play made it a lot of fun to explore and do mission. I think a lot of people who complain about it, must not have played it a lot. I finished it. Ran well for me on a 8800GT
