Just wanted to get some opinions on which far cry you guys think is better;

The original for the PC ?

or

The version that came out on the original xbox titled "Far Cry: Instincts"

I prefer the PC one myself, i didn't like how they changed the story in the Xbox version. and the PC one looked way better. Plus FPS are meant to played on the PC ! mouse and keyboard FTW (tho i do play a lot of FPS on my Xbox360 too, but that's just cause most my friends aren't PC gamers like me so i can only play with them on Xbox live)

one thing i do like about the xbox version is that you can set traps, thats pretty cool.

ANYWAYS......discuss:D

Far Cry for the PC is one of my all-time favorite games. I would not enjoy playing it without a mouse and keyboard, so I don't think I'd enjoy "Instincts" very much.

I haven't played the console variants of the game, but I suspect they were handled by Ubisoft and not Crytek, so I don't exactly trust that they are of any great worth. Someobody correct me if I'm mistaken, though.

They tried to kill Far Cry with the last patch too...the mouse won't work in-game until you reset all your bindings to default and then start a new game, there are stupid sound loops and enemies don't always die properly (they die, but remain standing in the exact position they were in before you shot them, rather than falling or even making some death-related noise). I finished the game several times with earlier patches and can't remember any of those issues ever occurring.

The original FarCry was my 2nd favorite FPS of 2004. Riddick: Butcher Bay topped my list that year.

+1 for Riddick being the best game that year. I didn't realize it was out the same year as Far Cry. Far Cry has always been remembered as one of the best looking games at that point. Riddick looked phenomenal, though.

yea, that patch pissed me off too. So i dont use it. Far Cry is also one of my favorite all time FPS'sFar Cry is one of my all time favorite PC FPS' i've played, actually its one of the best in general, on console and PC, i remember i got it the day after it came out back in like '03 or '04 and it was like the most beautiful and amazing i had played on the PC, and the rag doll physics were amazing as well...... i'm pretty sure that crytex had a hand in making the port. and like i said, i like the xbox version, not as much as the PC one,and i haven't played the one for 360, i will have to give it a try, but what pisses me off about the the XBOX version, is that they changed pretty much everything, the story is almost completely different, including Jack Carvers voice. The chik looks different,

The xbox version has the same problem with enemies not dying like they're supposed to, earlier to day, i sniped a guy for just a few yards away, had a perfect shot, hit smack dead in his forehead, watched the blood splatter, and he didn't die, and there was a few other times when it was pretty much like my bullets were just making blood and not actually doing damage. And I've yet to see any mutant creatures yet, so I dont even kno if the xbox version has the mutants in it. its basically like playing a retarded sequel, but its still fun to play. I still haven't played Far Cry 2 yet either, i heard that was badass too. anyone here play that yet ????? i also just found out that they are making Crysis 2, which is going to be on the consoles as well as PC, which doesn't make sense cause they didn't put the first crysis on any of the consoles, cause from what i heard, that game is too much for the consoles to handle, i haven't played it yet cause my current PC wont play it, i'm still stuck with a NVIDIA 6600GT. but I'm building a new PC after the New Year.

Far Cry 2 is universally hated here on this forum, mainly for its extremely repetitive gameplay.

Crysis is probably do-able on the consoles (shock!), at sub-720p and low/medium settings (my PC is able to do that, so a PS3/360 probably could too). The reason it was left off the consoles I believe was an exclusivity deal with EA.

Far Cry 2 is yaaaaaaaawn. Crysis is much more the spiritual successor to Far Cry, complete with a less-than-stellar 2nd half and all.

FC2 feels dumbed down from the original. Plus, I'm just not sold on the locale as much.
The original Far Cry is still an absolutely amazing game. Yeah, the patches sometimes goofed the game up, but it's still a good game. Plus, with even so-so hardware you can jack FC's details up to the point that it looks absolutely stunning.
The one on the 360 was okay, but I prefer the PC version because of the ability to crank up the details.

The original Far Cry was a great game. The second game doesn't feel at all like the first, and the game mechanics changed too much. It's a good looking game that works well technically speaking, but the game play is too non-linear, too dull and has virtually nothing in common with the first game. What made the first game good is absent in the second. Crysis is very much a spiritual sequel to Farcry as others have said, but with aliens instead of mutants, and a fancy suit. There is a very similar feel to Crysis as Far Cry. The problem is Crysis runs like crap even on fairly high end computers.

Far Cry on the XBOX 360 was ok, but it feels more linear. It isn't as open and there isn't as much to explore. That's the problem with the consoles, they don't have enough memory to keep such large maps loaded all the time.

Great game until half way, where you are at the facility with the aliens. I never finish the game. Maybe i should give it another shot.

They aren't aliens. They are mutated primates. Some of them have cybernetic implants but they are not of alien origin.

Far Cry 1 is still my favorite shooter up until you get into the last area or two. The first part in the beach/woods/at that ship is still my favorite part of any FPS. I randomly replay those areas still from time to time.

The cover system in that game worked better than any other I have played...hide in the weeds and the dam bots can't see you unless they saw you to start with. Other games the dam AI just sees everything.

Cheating to give myself a sniper at the start is hillarious too. Pick off those guards at long range and they all get angry but actually do anything.

PC version hands down! That was one of my all time favorite games. a friend of mine would always come over and play it, then he bought instincts for his xbox and was so disappointed, since then got him more into pc gaming :D

Far Cry and Nolf are probably my two favorite games of all time. I got it for my birthday the year it came out. The only game I've ever had that came in one of those ridiculous oversized boxes. I remember wanting a 6600gt because my 9600 all in wonder couldn't max it out. But I loved the setting of the tropical island, the water, the action, and even Jack Carver being a smart ass.

Was I the only one that didn't mind the second half of the game at all? It gave you a reason for being on the island. It was challenging, and the various mutants were great enemies. It was a change of pace from the mercenaries and I loved Far Cry all the way through.

my favorite game of all time. I played through it at least 8 or 9 times. Each time i tried a different path or different strategy. Each time i played it i realized there is another path i can take to sneak or go ballz to the wall into the trigens or mercs....love it.

the patch really messed up the weapons in multiplayer...the oicw could launch up to 5 greanades a long way til the patch which let them basically fall out of the gun. Then there was the original rocket launcher....4 rocket capacity you could fire back to back. the bar gun got overly powerful. The patch limited it to 2 rockets and super slow reloads....
good times baby, good times

I like it too. The levels where the mercs and trygens are attacking each other are pretty neat. Plus the primate-trygens have a good level of challenge to them since they can kill you in two hits, even on the easiest settings and with your health and armour maxed.

I've been playing the game at 1080p over the last week actually. It still looks great. It has definitely aged well.

FarCry was REALLY good until the mutant monkeys. An awesome game just went downhill at that point.

Oh man both are horrible ..first one was basically a dx 9 demo for nvidia which there fx cards werent dx 9.0c ( Half Life 2 proved that) anywho it never played well on anything at that time till you got the zillion patches to install ( think EA) if you died you had to repeat the WHOLE thing over and over and over and over and over...Graphics was nice when it did work.Best game(s) ever released from reading ALL the reviews and playing the games ALL the way thru was really a NO winner hands down Best Of the Best with Story line, AI, graphics and NO it wasnt based or used the doom engine WAS Half Life series ALL but Blue Sh*t LOL ..

FC 1 was amazing when it came out. The AI was one of the best since HL 1. The graphics were amazing and teh vehicle use was excellent too. The setting was unique too. All together a GREAT game.

I played FC 2 for about 2 hours, and never went back, it was horrible. they could have simply made more of the same FC 1, and had a better game.

Far Cry on Xbox is better. They fixed a bunch of problems and added content, but it comes down to gaming preference. I dont enjoy consoles shooters. I beat it on the PC. was mostly fun.

Haven't played the original yet (I have it on a shelf somewhere - will get around to it eventually), but I actually just finished FC2. I will admit that it's not for everyone, but I personally enjoyed it. I don't much care for the twitch shooters where you're constantly running at 10k miles per hour and you don't look at anything or explore anywhere. I'd much rather play a game that lets me take my time and fully explore my surroundings and take my time if I want to. I've played too many corridor games, and enjoy a wide open space when it's offered.

I like the wide open world and how it allows you to approach situations in vastly different ways. You can sit up on a rock with a sniper rifle and pick off all the soldiers at a checkpoint, you can lob grenades at them and blow the whole place up, you can run in with your assault rifle blazing and shoot them all at close range, or you can even just blast through it in your truck and hope to outrun them before they start chasing you.

Some of the missions did get repetitive and it was annoying having to re-kill the same checkpoint guards over and over again after zoning out and in again, but overall, I got the $20 value out of it that I paid for it. As for the folks that complain that it's nothing like the original - that was to be expected and was more or less well known before release. You shouldn't let that spoil what might otherwise be an enjoyable gaming experience.

The original PC version, despite its many faults, is the better game by far

Ubisoft changed it too much.

I loved the whole mutant warrior aspect of the game, too. I never understood why so many hated that part. It was a huge mistake for FC 2 not to follow up on the original.

To this day I consider FC PC to be the best shooter Ive ever played. I replay sp all the time. When they leaked the FC2 pics a year or more before it came out I was super excited...... but then, well you know.

The original is light years beyond #2. The only part I didn't like is how enemies could easily spot you from 300m away. Basically made the stealth elements obsolete.

I know it has allready been said, and it wasn't even mentioned in the OP's thread, but FC2 hacked me off so bad I just have to say it again: FC2 sucks wind.

The first Far Cry allows for all of this also.

the first far cry was way better than 2... i played far cry 2 for like 10 minutes and was already bored. lol

Far Cry was and still is amazing. Pc hands down is the best. FC2 had potential but obviously we all know what happened.

What I want to know is how gamespot, maximum pc, pc gamer all gave it like 9/10????

I'm gonna be a jackass yet realistic and say that most of those who hated Far Cry 2 went to piratebay on that one... See the thing with that game was that singleplayer was very repetitive and felt like you were in a big homogenic sandbox with the same groups of enemies on sporadic locations. Multiplayer on the other hand was fun, felt like medal of honor / Counter-Strike in beautiful environments. Your character would level up and there was a ranking system. Not very revolutionary but solid fun. Sorry for beating this horse again but I really never could agree with the level of hate people had for this game, and they also always only had comments on singleplayer. Go figure.

Well I for one bought the game as well as a large group of LAN friends of mine. From being fans of the first FarCry, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths. Multi maybe fun, but that is half the game. I didn't pay 40 bucks for a some what decent multi play. And leveling was bs! You didn't even get to keep the items you purchased. Having to relevel every time you went to a new server is retarded.
