I have to say the best bang for the buck card is the 6600gt but ATI still pwns in games like HL2 and Far Cry. Don't try to argue that it has stats to prove it. I do think the 6800 would be better if it wasn't crippled in the game...but it is and you can't do much about that. If you like Doom3 get nV; if you like HL2 get ATI.
I still havn't seen the driver errors from ATI.....
I've been an ATI user (not a !!!!!! jsut user) since the ATI Rage "graphics accelerator"
For the people who didn't know the CPU did all the graphics rendering until accelerators came out. This allowed for 1337 graphics b/c now the accelerator helped process the graphics. Yep that was in the day on my NEC pentium 100mhz, 2.5gb HD, 32 mb RAM, and me playing MechWarrior.

Currently I own a 9600xt but soon I'm getting an x700 Pro. I was going to get the x800 XL but not enough money yet. :(

Well right now I perfer NVIDIA but I have lost my trust in there drivers. For some odd reason no driver higher then 56.72 works right on my Asus FX5700. I literally lose 50% performance past 56.72. Its almost like NVIDIA ditched the FX line for support altogether. To me that hurt them in the trust department. My next card might be from ATI but who knows....

Back to the price : performance. The problem ATi is not doing as well, financially as nVidia, is because they did not release a card that matches the 6800gt. IF they did then ATi would have taken most of the enthusiast market.

That is wrong, Ati have a bigger revenue and profit then nvidia, this has been the case for a few years now. Looking at the latest report they had a ~30% increase in revenue compared to the same querter last year. So that ati did't have an answer to the 6800gt did't hurt them.

I'm going to have to disagree with that statement on purely philosophical grounds. If a company does not match it's competitors' offerings at a certain pricepoint, assuming a nearly equal quality of products, then they will indeed lose some revenue due to customers who are willing to spend more than the next lower but are not willing to spend as much as the next higher. It's a simple customer mentality issue.

what about in comparisson to nVidia's profit ? I'm comparing profit from both companies

I prefer both. :D ATI and Nvidia are both fantastic card companies and in the years previous, the half dozen or so cards I have owned have been from both brands. On one hand, I prefer nvidia's drivers and on the other hand, I enjoy ATI's features (AIW, good support, lower profile cooling). :)

I like nVidia because they have digital vibrance control that makes game's color looks SOOOO much better...

The x800 pro comparing to the 6800 gt was a big loss for ATI considering 12-pip vs 16pipe....

only so few of the x800pros are X800 PRO VIVOs..... which means some people got off lucky and some people didn't...

There aren't any ATI cards at 200-300 dollar price point that could beat nVidias solution for graphics until the x800XL showed up.... but the x800XL is released in PCI-EXPRESS platform first..... which means no hope for AGP users yet.... and most of the 300dollar 6800's 128mb can be unlocked to 16-pipes.

AS for the BEST graphical solution I'd have to give it to nVidia because they're the first one that can achieve a 3dMark05 score of 10k I'd like to see ATI top that off anytime soon.

I have 2x 6800's 256mb in SLI mode and I had a 3dmark05 score of 7.5k which cost 520 dollars, compared to a Radeon 850 XT PE which is almost about that price point can probably not achieve that 3dmark05 score. Unless you REALLy really Know alot about overclocking and test overclocking everyday which is a hassel.

now .. how the hell did you get 2 6800gt's for 520 ?

Could you please tell us where you got that .. I'm sure a lot of people would love to know !!

they're not GTs.... they're just regular 6800's with 12-pipe, if they were GT's my 3dmark05 would be 9.5k instead of 7k....

I know alot of people here have labeled me an "OMG ATI FAN BOY!!!" but the truth of the matter is I prefer whoever is faster. At this time, in terms of pure speed, in single cards, ATI Is fastest.

Im just not that much an advocate of SLI. Trust me, if SLI supported WMG1.0, then it would be great as an upgrade path (one card now, one later) but with WMG1.0 (Windows media graphics... I think that's what it's called, not sure though) coming out in less then a year, it's not that great.

Ive heard all the rumors about AMR and all the (WMG1.0(Dx10 support) is amazing IMO) R520s and such, and judging by Dx10 support alone, AMR wins out, Im highly interested in Nvidias next batch of cards, but since I dont know squat about them, at the time, ATI and the R520s are in my upgrade path...

I like both companies. But Nvidia wins with the best driver support over ATI. ATI has their pros and cons but I barely see any cons with Nvidia hardware since I made the switch from 3Dfx (and ATI) to Nvidia.
