:p I know im going to get slain for this. And its really not a "whats better" But more of a "Which Brand do you like more" Thread.

We all have to agree both sides have done good and bad in certain areas, both in the past and the present. Neither company is "better" than the other.... I just want to see what the general Feeling is.
 
this is stupid.

i like them both :) they trade blows every gen and i get what will give me the best bang for buck when i am ready to buy. 2 years ago, that was a 9600pro, 8 months ago, that was the 6800GT.
 
right now it's kinda a tossup, but i give nvidia the nod because of sli. as far as pure performance goes, it can't be beat.
things may change when amr finally launches though.
 
Well there has to be one company you prefer over the other. As I prefer Intel over AMD. However that does not mean AMD sucks. They currently have the best chip right now :(

Its just all a matter of prefrance. When I use ATi cards, it seems in all direct X games, it is Fast and OpenGL depending on the Game its fast too, but NVidia in Open GL seems like it is "smoother" ever since I owned a GF2.... I dont know why. I dont know if it is just my perception of it. I have not owned either a x800 series or 6800 series to compare new cards... but since most of my games are open GL based, I prefer NVidia.

But ATi I think rocks completly, Hopefully the R520 is gonna smoke everything :)
 
They are both great.

For top end card, excluding SLi, I would take a 850XT. For mainstream, the 6600GT would be a clear winner.

Too difficult to choose one over the other.
 
i think i prefer nividia, im using my first ati card right now a 9800pro it seems okay, but for whatever reason i prefer nividia..
 
For the last 2 weeks I've being trying to decide between a BFG 6800 Ultra or a X800 XT PE or 850 XT (ATI Brand). I don't want a card with only a 1 year warranty. I was so sure about the ATI a few days ago but now I'm concidering the Ultra again. The 6*** series support PS 3.0 but that's not gonna be in any decent games for a while and by the time they do come out you'll want another card.

I currently have a MSI 9800XT and have been very happy with it. I have a Nvidia TNT II Ultra in a office PC that's still going strong.
 
I try out ATI from time to time, they're alot better than they were the first time I went with them especially in the driver area, but I still keep going back to nVidia.

Nah, actually nVidia just handles multimonitor better. And the display gridlines thing is kind of amusing if you're going to have alot of stuff open at once. Anyone know if they still do that? I've been on a 9800 for a while now and am receiving a 6800 in a day or two.
 
Which ever one has the better bang-for-buck factor in the game im currently playing.
I have zero brand loyalty :p
 
I like ATI cards. Smaller, less power consumption. Although if someone gave me a nvidia I wouldn't complain. :D
 
nvidia definately tops in performance, but is it just me or does ATi graphics seem more detailed and smoother?
 
nVidia, only because they have always been at the price point I needed. ATi wasnt "there for me" at the $250-300 price point this generation. And I had a GeForce3 that lasted me 2 or 3 years. Plus, the only ATi chipsets I've used were a garbage Xpert 98 a few years ago and the piece of garbage that's in the GameCube (hey guys, ever heard of anisotropic filtering?) So my experience, and thus views on them, are quite narrow minded.
 
I like both. If it came to Intel vs. AMD, of course AMD. But I don't really prefer any GPU over another
 
I prefer NVIDIA simply because of their superior Linux support. It's a no-brainer for me until ATI gets it together. That, and NVIDIA just works correctly, especially in older games. ATI still cannot render fog correctly in Thief 2, and there was a Catalyst driver bug in Thief 3 for almost half a year that rendered the game unplayable, which was completely unacceptable to me.

However, being on a Mac platform now, ATI is the better choice. Better support in Linux on the low-end chipsets due to DRI (neither vendor has a binary PPC Linux driver), and under OS X they actually have a control panel, allowing AA and the like.

So,

PC: NVIDIA
Mac: ATI
 
Hm, I had numerous nVidia and ATi cards. My vote goes to ATi's Radeon. I am more satisfied with "red camp" GPU's.
 
Wichever has the card with the best performance that I can afford. If it's a tie, I'll see what kind of card the games I play run better on.
 
I've been a fan of ATi ever since the 8500. For a while they had the most advanced shaders and other features, and the best image quality. Since I develop my own graphics stuff, I like to have all the latest features, and enough speed to use them too. Radeon 8500 and 9700 certainly beat the hell out of NV at the time.
But now ofcourse the 6800 is ahead with shaders/features... Sadly it still can't do 6xAA, and the quality at 4xAA and 16xAF just seems slightly less than what I got from my 9600Pro with the same settings.

I prefer the 6800 currently, because of the better shaders... but as soon as ATi releases their SM3.0-capable card, I'm quite sure that that would be the card I prefer again. And support for depth/stencil textures and percentage-closer filtering would be nice too :)
 
Well this question mostly depends on what OS you use !!

If Linux then nVidia is the only choice.

If Windows then ATi is the better choice for a person that can't afford SLi but can afford the best video card.

If it's for the budgeted user then nVidia is the only option.

For the cheapest but the best option I would go ATi for the X800XL

It is impossible to pin point which is the better company but for smoothness, perfect gaming and driver support in a Windows environment, I would have to say ATi is the only way to go for those that want a single excellent performing top of the line card !!
 
I was a die-hard nVidia fan since my 1st 3d card, the TNT2. But then I got a Radeon 8500 which, when overclocked, could easily run with a Ti4600.

nVidia lost the plot, and my trust, with the FX line. I was ready to buy nVidia with the 'release' of the 6800ultra, but when ATI release the X800 a short while later, and reclaimed the performance crown, with a simple revamp of an existing GPU, it was all ATI for me.

I'm very very happy with my X800Pro, but I wouldn't have complained with a GT. But somehow i like ATI's AA and AF better. It's more efficient and better looking. (Yeah, yeah, flame away, that's my opinion)
 
To this day for me i would never even think of buying ati...ever

i have had to many problems with all there cards...drivers still suck imo. they can't seem to get it right. i have had friends who are ati junkies. but now are nVidia junkies :D

you may call me a nVhore for all i care. i have been with nVidia since day one with the Riva128. And from there on out. i have had all nVidia cards. the only line of vid cards i missed was the GF3. i went from a GF2 GTS to a GF4 4400.
i have never once had one problem with drivers or games not working with nVidia cards. NEVER...as for ati. i can't say anything nice about them. so i won't say anything at all :D

kinda funny to. my friend hereitic had bought a 9700 back when they first came out. after 3 days he finnaly got a few of his games to run. LOL i told him up and down left and right that he would have problems. and now he is a very happy owner of a BFG6800GT

I hear people say bad things about the ATI drivers, but I don't have any problems. In the nvidia forum I see lots of "which driver for which game" than I do with ATI. You don't switch back and forth between beta drivers. Just download the monthly release, and you're good to go. I think the ATI driver thing comes from those people that haven't had an ATI card in a very, very long time.
 
Nvidia rightnow, SLI is a powerful vacuum that has sucked many of us back to NV. And you cannot beat a 6600 for DVD playback in a HTPC. :D

I do use beta drivers. but never once had any probs with them..

I guess you can call me old school on it..but ati hasn't given me any reason to really go with them. To me. Their not impresive at all. all i hear from my friends who still have ati cards is that they have more problems with playing there games than anything. hell my friend balkroth had every ati card (lived and died by ati) till the x800's came out. he has a BFG 6800GT now. And till this day still wonders why he went with ati all this time. i find that funny myself but, to each there own.

I've had a couple Ati cards in my time, and they are very consistant: They do not have full functionality until 6 months after I purchase them. The hardware is elegant, but the software side is not ati's forte. Nvidia drivers co-exist with ati hardware in a peaceful manner, but the converse is not true. I don't trust my system to Ati's code.

BTW, I bought my HDTV wonder in august, and it finally works pretty well with the release of MMC 9.06 and new drivers. w00t. 6 months later...
 
No choice for integrated video, wtf??? :p

I like the competition that drives both but I've only used ATI (up until 3-4 weeks from now.)
 
I have always owned Nvidia cards, never owned ATi but some of my friends have.
They both have had more problems than me. Im not gonna lie and say ive never had a problem with a nvidia card because i have, but the problems of my friends at the same time with the same games, Ati outweighed Nvidia in problems as far as i could see. i still feel the same way to this day, and now they all own nvidia because of those problems. Sure you can say ATI's drivers have gotten better, but so have Nvidia's. But thats just my opinion. =]
 
my preference is based on price performance and such.. I owned a 9500np softmoded to 9700 for a long time, that was pretty cool. THen got this PNY 6800U for cheap..

I definitely liked the resolutions for HD out better, BUT that damn shimmering is SOO painful....

Oh and the 6800U is monster, I'm hunting for a better PSU at the moment.. I mean this thing needs two connections, prefered from seperate lines!.. yet the 6800GT doesn't... makes ya wonder...
 
I am slightly bias towards nVidia, but not so much that I won't ignore something ATi puts out that can out perform what nVidia puts out.
 
Never have been nor ever will be brand loyal. I had nVidia in the past, then the 9700pro, then nvidia 6800gt and now x850xt.

My vote right now goes to ATI. They run cooler, quieter and use less power and deliver the goods. Drivers are great as well.

Compared to my louder, hotter and slightly less powerful 6800gt (by far not a bad card), this is a step up and that's where my vote goes to.
 
Isn't this pretty obvious? Don't take sides, ever.

ATI = better card.
nVidia = better drivers.

Any enthusiast knows this, only reason I got a 6800Go in my laptop is because the X800 isn't out yet for sonoma!
 
I like ATI better as a company...


But obviously that has no impact on what card I'm going to get...

I guess I'm slightly different. I support the weakest companies which are AMD and ATI. They have always been the "underdogs" and haven't been so popular but their workmanship is great. They eventually gave way to new competition and came out with amazing hardware. To see small time companies expand into big strong competitive companies captures my vote.
