With the announcement of Doom III gone gold, many of us are scrounging together our last nickels and dimes trying to upgrade everything from hard drives to video cards. I thought it might be interesting for people to post what you're buying in the next few weeks in preparation for the 'next big thing'. Since this is the Video Card forum, special focus on video upgrades is appreciated.

--------------------------------------------------------

See sig below for my system's specs... that'll be doing the DIII running without any change. I spent my last bit of computer money upgrading my cooling - which resulted in my recent 9800Pro---> XT overclock.

Here's hoping for a great gaming experience

im totally prepared for D3
got my 2.7ghz p4, 9800pro, and most importantly, an audigy with some Logitech THX 5.1 speakers.
Now i just need to preorder it tonight.

Good one man - I totally forgot that SOUND is probably one of the most important aspects of this game!

My main rig has the Audigy 2 Platinum running through Cambridge MegaWorks THX 550
My second rig has the Audigy pushing through Boston Acoustics Digital 2.1s

Bring on the surround sound that will make me even more glad I bought these speakers!

This is what I hope to have finished (and working) by the time D3 comes out:

Athlon64 3500+
Asus A8V Deluxe (Wi-Fi)
Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPRO (512MBx2)
74GB WD Raptor
NEC ND-2500A (black, possibly flashed to 2510A)
Antec SLK-3700-BQE
Antec 430W TruePower
19" (black) NEC/Mitsubishi DP930SB
BFGTech 6800GT OC
Audigy2 ZS

I'm gonna keep my headphones, keyboard and mouse :)

3.06 P4
Intel 865 mobo
1GB ddr400
X800XT
Maxtor 200GB HDD
Sony DVD+-RW
Logitech 510

and just for shits and giggles...
tridentagp.jpg

Maybe the Tenebrea team will have some kind of software render.

</wakes up from dreaming>

All 3 rigs in sig are ready to kick some serious ass! I doubt the 9700pro will get much action, my 5 year old would pass out if he saw doom3, lol!

Sig.

I might buy a 120GB HDD though... starting to run low on space. I still have to get around to OCing my CPU...

The rig below...should be able to handle doom3 with no issues

Fast cpu? Check
Fast Ram and Plenty of it? Check
Stable and Fast MOBO? Check
High End Vid Card? Check
Fast Storage? Check
High end Sound? Check

19 inch Flatscreen Crt? Check

still waiting for a decent price on a bfg 6800gt, but uh I don't think that'll be happening any time soon.. I'll probably wind up grabbit it for 400 like everyone else :(

Well I highly doubt my current system'll be able to run it, but once I get my GCSE Results and ahopefully a cash bonus :) (August 26th) I'll be able to build me a nice A64 Rig, with, as it seems now a 6800 GT, if they're out in the uk by then

xp 2200+
1 GIG RAM
radeon 9800 pro 256MB
SB Audigy platinum
decent sorround sound speakers

All I need to do now is order a case o' Bawls and some penguin mints and I'll be ready to spend a solid week infront of my monitor for some Doom III goodness!

i gots a

3.0C at 3.91
p4c800-e deluxe
1gig of ocz pc4000 el
9800pro r360core flashed to XT running at 450/391
and an audigy 2 zs

hope im ready -_-

I'm pretty sure my current rig will play it good enough. (see sig)

Though I will probably be upgrading to a 6800GT and 400W silverstone quiet PSU (from my skyhawk 300W) and maybe a 36.7GB raptor just b/c my old 40GB is aging and its about time for a new HD.

I cant believe my 300W PSU has held up for as long as it has with all the stuff I have:
OC'd 3.6Ghz P4, Nv 5900, DVD+RW, CD-RW, 40GB HD, neon light, 4 case fans, HSF, NB fan, NIC, SB Audigy 1, floppy, 6-in-1 memcard reader, 2x256MB ram

The only thing uncertian in my rig is video, either a 9800se (softmodded) or a BFG6800gb (if my dad loans me the $$) Cause right now its a radeon 7500 :(

But other than that:

Znf3-150 mobo
a64 3000
512mb ddr400
80gb sata hard drive

Don't touch the 9800se. Grab the 6800GT. Or if you cant afford it I am selling my 9800np. PM me.

All you guys with the 3.0C overclocked on air... especially those of you with the IC7s

What are all your BIOS settings invlovled with the overclock (bus speeds, ratios, latencies, and the like).... I'd love to overclock my system but I haven't the faintest of what I need to do to get it nice and stable.... any help would be appreciated...

AMD64 3400+
MSi K8N Neo
Mushkin 222 Special 2x512mb
BFG 6800 Ultra OC
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Western Digital Raptor 740GD

I am good to go.

I think my computer is ready for all but the ultra settings

fast cpu w/ high fsb: check?
fast video card: check, I hear the maximum settings need 512 mb ram though :( that won't be happening til gdr3 shortage is over.
memory: 512 check 1 gig=min performance boost
half descent speakers: check -center speaker :(

What's in my Doom III box? Let's see...

* Registration card
* Manual
* Quick reference card
* Doom III CDs
* Misc. ads for other games by id and Activision

see sig. I'll run it on the Workstation lappy and the Gaming system.

(i.e. FireGL T2 128mb (9600), and a 6800GT@Ultra)

DFI LanParty NFII Ultra 400
AMD XP-M @ 2.4ghz (11x220) (potentially 2.6ghz but not @ 1.65vcore for nice cool temps)
Samsung 1gb Dual Channel Ram
Seagate 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache SATA
and a PNY 6800GT on order from Buy.com

Oh I am fully ready. :D

A64 FX-53
Asus A8V
1GB Mushkin (2x512) PC 3500
ATI Radeon XT PE (waiting on 6800U to decide which to keep.)
Audigy/2
Klipsch 5.1 Speakers
NEC FP2141

- D.

edit: forgot monitor.

Whats in my box? My dead hamster. Figured the heat tainted smell wafting from my fans would add to the atmosphere of the game...

I think Ill be fine:
athlon64 3200+
MSI K8N NEO
1GB pc3200
radeon 9700pro (don't know if it will run it)

I should be getting this system in time for Doom 3:

Athlon 64 939 FX-53
2 GB PC-3200 Corsair PRO
BFG 6800 Ultra OC
Audigy 2 ZS
2 74 GB WD Raptors RAID 0
Klipsch Ultra 5.1 speakers
NEC/MITSUBISHI FP2141SB-BK 22" SuperBright Diamondtron CRT Monitor

I'm upgrading from this:

Dell XPS B series Pentium 3 933 MHz
256 MB PC-700 RAMBUS
45 GB IBM HD
SB Live! value digital
19 inch Dell monitor
Altec Lansing 120 watt 4.1 speakers

I hope I'll be able to play Doom with all the bells and whistles :D

athlon xp 2500+
abit nf7-s
512mb corsair 3500
radeon 9800 pro

not the greatest, but more than enough to enjoy the game :)

ASUS An7x-e deluxe.. some junk like that
Barton 2500+ @ 3200+
1 gig geil PC3200
Radeon 8500LE  ....

i plan to get the 9800pro around the release of D3.. i should be able to play it pretty decent..

Check my sig for my Doom 3 / HL2 / DNF box. I think it will do ok for the next year or so.

yar sound will be very important, which is why i plan to go through doom3 with my sennheiser 280pros cranked up, and in the dark. im scared already heh

My system in the sig, with the 2600. Except, I'll be sticking a Volcano 6 hsf on my 9700, cuz it was just lying around, and figured, it's about time i mod it. :p
So I should be good enough to use it on at least medium settings, with my processor at around 2.5-2.6, and hopefully some nice oc's on my 9700.

edit: :p forgot, i'll be running it on some shitty speakers, but probably willl end up buying some 5.1 head phones :D

get some speakers for that system, headphones wont do it justice.

Quality headphones are many times over better than quality speakers. Watts is not all that matters.
