What was your first accelerated graphics card? I'm only asking for 3D accelerated one, no old ega or vga stuff.

For me, it was the Voodoo2 and got another later on and "linked" them. After that, I had a ATI 3D Rage Pro by S3, then GeForce 2mx. Oh boy, did I have that GeForce for a LONG time.

Then got a GeFroce 5950XT with the Hynix ram chips and slapped a CPU heat sink on it and overclock the hell out of it. I was only 15, and had almost no money :D.

Got a Laptop with a 9700pro on it when I joined the Army. Did pretty well in 140F heat! Then a 8800GTS (Fried it), then a 8800 GTX, then a second. One 8800GTX died, so I sold the other, got a 4870, then a 5870 and sold it during the bit-coin craze, and now have a pair of 6850's.

I love my hobby but I receive much wrath from household 6*. If a Army unit call sign was say for example

* This is Army Lingo. If a Army unit's call-sign was "The Bastards", then the CO would be called Bastard 6 and the CSM would be called Bastard 5. Now, you can guess my old platoon's call-sign.

A PCI 64-bit Geforce 4 MX440 I think. Not sure if the integrated Rage Pro I had before actually counts or not :p

Radeon 9800 Pro. Yup, I went without a video card (and in some instances, without a sound card too) for that long. Half-Life and TFC at 512x384 in software mode? You bet.

A Diamond FireGL Pro... was based off the old 3Dlabs permedia2 chipset..

Took some jiggery pokery to get quake2 running with acceleration and even then, no colored lighting :(

STB Velocity 4400.. Damn thing would overheat (no fan) and crash in Diablo near every time before I could kill Diablo.

wasnt allowed to have a system or a gaming computer as a kid. Had to buy one after i moved out.

paid $250 for an evga 8800gtx off of somebody here on [h], back in 2008. Built a computer around that card for the sole purpose of playing crysis.

The first one I actually purchased myself was an Nvidia Quadro 700 XGL. Yeah, I was a 3d graphics nerd when I was 14...

STB velocity.... which didn't work with FF7 so i got a voodoo 2 with a whopping 8mb ram

then voodoo 3 3000 i think it was > then radeon > then radeon 9500 np softmodded to 9700 and oc'd to 9700pro speeds > then x800 XT PE

then.. 5850 lol Yes i know. a big jump there.

I had a Matrox Mystique that had VERY weak 3D acceleration, but was mainly a pretty decent 2D card with some 3D tacked on.
My first "real" 3D card was an Orchid Righteous 3D, a Voodoo 1.

Off the top of my head it was the Geforce 4 Ti which came with a PC I bought in 2002 but I remember playing Tribes and Anarchy Online back in '01 but I was only 11 so I don't really remember what was in the PC.

Creative Labs RIVA TNT blaster wow, that was almost two decades ago! Shit, I still have that card in my old/decrepid/useless hardware bin!

It wasnt MINE but I played on my brothers machine he built in high school.

Dual Athlon XP 1900+'s
512MB RAM
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128mb
Dual 80GB HDDs in RAID 0

Thing chewed through the original Dungeon Siege like butter.

Only 3D accelerated? Ok, that would be the Ati Expert@Play (8MB Rage Pro). Before that it was the Graphics Wonder (Mach32) which was before 3D.

First actual 3d acceleration was Voodoo 4 PCI because my $1,700  HP didn't have AGP.

(older and wiser now)

Voodoo 1 here. Diamond Monster 3D

On a 233 MMX overclocked to 292 (yes that's MHz). I was quite pleased with the 83 Mhz bus...smokin fast!

Damn I'm gettin' old!

3dfx Voodoo2!!!! FTW!!! Played games like "Forsaken" and "Final Fantasy VII" and "Quake 2" I love my childhood lol.

Nvidia GeForce FX 5200. Used it to play Half Life 2 on Medium settings when it first came out. That card was a champ!

3D Labs Permedia2 8MB, followed by the Voodoo Banshee 16MB, then onto a Geforce 32MB DDR and have been nVidia ever since.

ATI 3D Rage Pro 8MB to replace my onboard Rage Pro 4MB. Made almost no difference. But I loved it. Sweet frame rate in GTA2.

2006 - X1900XT (£330)
2007 - 2xHD3870 (£250)
2008 - HD4870X2 (£260)
2009 - additional HD4870X2 (£540 total)

I'm jealous of ur 2xHD6970

Little younger than some of you guys but my first was a Jetway At Radeon 9600 xt 128mb. Got it just I could play doom 3 and call of duty 2 :p That was with a amd semprom 2ghz skt 754. Man I loved that rig (compared to the first rig I built before that with some crap 800mhz duron and a gefore mx 4000)

Now I got a 2500k and a 6870. My oh how times have changed.

I remember having a lot of early 3D video cards. I know I had a Matrox Millennium which was not 3D but I did by a Matrox M3D becuase I was a big Matrox fan. I didn't have it for long as I upgraded to a Diamond 3DFX Voodoo 1, which I replaced a few months later with a Canopus Pure3D Voodoo 1 because it had a crazy 6MB of RAM compared to the usual 4MB of RAM. It was 1-3 FPS faster.

I also remember having a Matrix Mystique in a system too which I guess was my first 2d/3d card but I didn't like it as much as my Matrox Millennium because the 2D wasn't as sharp on my then massive 17" CRT.

I know for sure my very first AGP card was a Intel i740 8MB card, I used that card for a while with my STB Voodoo 2 12mb cards in SLI. I switched to an ATI Rage Fury at some point which was my first ATI product since my old ATI sound card which was paired with a Western Digital video card (weird huh). I also used a Riva TNT and Geforce 2 at some point but for the most part my systems have been ATI only over the last decade or so. Including the AIW 128, AIW Radeon, AIW 8500, AIW 9800, AIW X800 (my last AIW and AGP card). I used the X800 for a long time before finally upgrading my PC in January 2009. I really liked AIW cards.

My first PCI Express card was a single HD 4870 I then added a second for crossfire a few months later. I just replaced those with a MSI Lightning 6970. I have a EVGA GTX 460 1GB FTW card in my HTPC system but for the most part I've been ATI all the way for a long time. I do have a nvidia 335m in my Alienware m11x.

I probably missed a few cards but that is to be expected.

It was a Matrox Mystique.. but the first real one was a 3DFX.. don't remember witch, but it was at the same time as Quake 2 was released..

Wow... I got alot of reply QUICK! My most awesome thread to date. YAY ME!

I still have my voodoo cards. I'm never going to get rid of them. They'll be a collector's time in 50 years!
