Which MMO? I'm thinking about picking up an MMO and I already have Guild Wars so which one?

i havent played MMORPG's untill i heard about WOW from a friend and now im addicted, fun environment.

Wow is good if you want to play casually. Originaly EQ is still at the top if you want "serious" play but a good community that loves to fuck around. Personally, id wait for vangaurd. Its from original EQ guy Brad McQuad.

im not sure if you know this but origonal EQ char ballance sucked ass, took them alot of addons to get it corrected. I dont see that as any beacon of hope for vangaurd.

WoW is for immature kiddies, which it has alot of, alot of other normal people too but the kiddie population is noticably larger then alot of other mmo's, and most importantly if you dont want to dedicate much time. The grind is alot faster. EQ2 if you want to get dedicated. I havent heard much bad about FF but i dont know anyone whos still playing it...

Don't join the darkside (WoW). I've tried loads of MMOs (played each for 3+ months) and for me L2>AO>EQ2>Planetside>EQ>SWG>WoW>Mx0. Didn't like the crappy interface in WoW and I hear FFXI sucks. EQ2 is just quest quest quest so it gets boring fast. L2 aint bad if you can get past the level grinding at the start, AO used to be good before the fr00b invasion.

None of the ones listed. Dark Age of Camelot is by far the deepest game with the best endgame and PVP overall.

EQ was also among the first fantasy world based 3d MMO's made. If you visited fohguild.org and the vangaurd forums you would know from talking to brad as well as just reading what he says that things will probably be different. They are doing beta with some 14 classes and will cut the ones that dont work/balance well.

I like AO, I don't play any MMO's atm, taking a long long break..

Anarchy Online has one of the best atmosphere's. Sci-Fi Punk/whatever you want to call it, I guess since it was the only one I've ever owned it leaves a bigger impression on me. Right now the bulk of people I knew from there went to World of Arts and Crafts and left it barren with Newbies :(

Wow

Im addicted, but I'm moving so I havn't bothered replenishing my time, I

Wow. I'd tie it with Guild Wars, though GW isn't considered a "true" MMO. FFXI just plain sucked. Absolutely no fun, required way too much grinding. The only thing cool about it was the world. Never palyed EQ 2, though if it's anything like the first I'd find it highly unenjoyable.

It's probably going to be wow as my first true mmo I need something that picks up and plays easily.

Edit: Quick Question can you have multiple characters without paying more.

As many as you want.

Play in Spirestone!

Well I bought wow today, I'm installing it now. I have to leave for work in 1/2 hour but im looking to play it later tonight.

You'll have fun. Just dont lose control.

this from someone with 3 level 60s and a 55. the hell do i have room to talk??

Im going to be Night Elf and either Hunter or Rogue. Not sure yet any opinions?

NE rogues are 13 to the dozen, so consider the hunter. :)

Because theres less hunters right? =)

I would suggest something less played, maybe a tauren warrior or orc warrior, both of the racial talents go well for this class

Heh, you're right. The census speaks for itself. :)
Interestingly, the NE hunter/rogue balance is 25%/24% on my server, unlike the 29%/22% overall.

Anyway. Rogues are still the most popular class overall. I agree; consider a less used class.

Well my opinion would be againts NE because that's alliance and that would mean the [H]ardGuild wouldn't be getting a new member. :p

You didn't like the interface on WoW? WoW is EXTREMELY customizable. There are tons and tons of addons or features to tailor the interface to your preference.

No shit, the only limitation is your imagination for the most part.

No I dont mean the layout I mean the windows etc, just seems too simple to me after playing all those other mmorpgs with GUIs that provide lots of stats.

once again. Any stats you can possibly want are there.

You're obviously not much of an addon guy...

FFXI blows. There's too many reasons to list here why it sucks without overloading the database.

Yea, guess it just boils down to personal preferences.

What stats are you talking about? Every single thing on the screen can be moved, resized, hidden, modified, etc with the right addons. You can even custom create new ones. I don't get what you're saying. It sounds like you haven't played it that much and are grasping for straws here to not like it. You can customize a GUI to have whatever stats you want shown. This is of course not mentioning that your reason is pretty silly in the first place to not like a game for and made sillier by the intense customization in WoW GUI.

If only everquest 2 didnt absolutely require a good grp to level up well with, and it actually had pvp. I though eq2 was more involving and graphically way better looking but I spent more time looking for a grp then leveling, and even if you did get to level 50 all you can do is fight npcs.

I played EQ so I knew to avoid EQ2 and anything associated with those people (ie SWG).

I really want you guys to list the things why FFXI blows. I play it and I think it's cool. All I hear from most people is they played WoW for maybe 2 months then they pitch it.

I tried to play FFXI, I coudnt even get past level 6 cuz I was a mage and nobody would group with me. What a waste of 50 freaking bux.

As a retired serious FFXI player (72 rng / 45 nin / 45 thf) I think I'm qualified to say...

FFXI blows because:

With the exception of 1 job, soloing is not an option after lvl 15 or so. It can (and often does, depending on your job) take HOURS to find a group before you can advance your character at all.

The quests are, for the most part, pointless and tedious. There is never a worthwhile reward for doing them, so they're largely ignored. The leveling treadmill is 99% of the gameplay experience.

EVERYONE is ahead of you. The game's been live for years now, and the Japanese had it a year before the US guys even started. The economy is fully controlled and exploited, it's impossible to make $ without tons of mind-numbingly repetative work. And speaking of $, you'll need a LOT of it to afford even mediocre equipment. If your gear is sub-par everyone and their brother will be lining up to remind you that you're gimped and will kick you out of their group.

The pressure for $ drives many people to buy it online; consequently the game has a HUGE problem with Chinese gil-farming operations who monopolize certain mobs and areas and resort to all kinds of dirty tactics to sustain their cash flow.

There is nothing but drama to look forward to once you reach the level cap (12-24 months down the line). Large, established guilds (called Linkshells in FFXI) fight constantly over the handfull of end-game high-value mobs that spawn once a day (or once a week, depending). There is precious little meaningful or interesting end-game content, just an endless push for marginally better gear and more $ in the bank.

All that said, I think FFXI could be enjoyable if two specific conditions are met.
1. You're single and unemployed. You need huge chunks of open time to get anything done in this game and a job or social life would interfere too much.
2. You have 3 or 4 single, unemployed friends who can start playing at the same time as you and are willing to all work together on the way through the game.

If you fit that description then go for it, otherwise find something else to play. You'll be glad you did.

yea FFXI blows i played it for a month. bland. not chill people. waste of 50$. played wow beta but never purchased because it would have taken me over. Guildwars is good because i can play it for a mission for 30 minutes then leave.
