I'm using an old Microsofty like this one. I kind of want to upgrade for gaming but I hate all the new weird designs. Anyone know of/have a sweet mouse?

If you like that Microsoft design then I would recommend checking out some of Steelseries line like the Zai or Sensei.

Actually how about this one?

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 $29.99 on Amazon

Otherwise I'd recommend the following:
Razer DeathAdder
Logitech G400
Steelseries Xai

I've used many Razer mice and they all worked well while their build quality is not the best. I currently have both a Razer Mamba (wireless version of the DeathAdder) and the Logitech G400. I like the G400 better as it handles latency better than the Mamba (even when the Mamba is plugged in). It's also a lot more comfortable to me.

Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000

I also don't like all the crazy designs and multiple button schemes of the new 'gaming' mice...all I need is the left/right buttons and a scrolling wheel (with dibits)

They no longer make the MX518. The new mouse with the same feel (different side coating though and new sensor) is the G400.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. I like having a button or two extra on the side of the mouse for reload or a "use" function in some games. There is a slight advantage to higher polling rates and higher dpi for some games and styles, but the more you practice the better you get regardless of your hardware.

You could have a Steelseries Sensei with maxed out CPI (something like 11,400), a mechanical keyboard, the fastest quad SLI rig out there watercooled and a 5Ghz 2600k with 16GB of memory and multiple SSDs. Running on 3 monitors. You could still lose a game because you did not practice. :)

God, those lights!

I guess the lights are useful if you don't know how to touch type, but god... they're so distracting and annoying.

exactly...how do you type or play a game like that...it's like having dozens of tiny flashlights shining in your eyes at all times

maybe to you. thats why they make a dimmer on the keyboard.

the pic just makes it extremely bright then they look they arent blinding at all.

If there's a proper dimmer then it's not bad, but I still prefer to have the only lit object in a room when I'm playing a game (like FEAR or something, hehe) to be the screen.

yeah there is a off setting then 3 brightness settings and one other settings I Think where the lights stay on for a few sec then go off if you dont type on the keyboard.

The on/off would distract me probably. I wouldn't mind a very dim (sort of a light glow) on my keyboard, but anything more than that.. yuck!

Logitech G500. Not as fancy as some of the others out there, but generally does the job.

Got a Zowie EC1 Black atm, probably the best one i've ever had. OP might like this, it's pretty much like IE 1.1 with 1000hz, more DPI if you want, better scroll, better grip, better buttons and side buttons, but with the sick shape that IE 1.1 and 3.0 has.

Have a G400 for sell btw. contact me if ur interested.

G5, playa.

The thumb mouse button is probably the greatest thing ever devised along with braided cable insulator. I don't use the second thumb mouse button one, just the big one.

If the G5 bit the dust tomorrow, I'd probably just go for a mouse that was cheaper copy.
I actually liked the Intellimouse. I guess I'm weird but I don't see the point in spending $50+ on mouse unless you have arthritis or some other medical condition.

I've had negative experiences with Logitech support and this mouse was a gift, so, all is right with the world.

When not using G5, using the Ultranav.

Well it could be argued that people buy $50 mice so they don't develop arthritis or other medical conditions.

Technically I'm using this guy right now, the original wireless MS intellimouse. I've probably owned it close to 10 years, and still about the most comfortable mouse I have ever owned/used. Although I do admit it definitely has inferior tracking/response compared to wired mice, which is why I bought a Razer mamba 2012 (which actually has a fairly similar feel/grip) with my new build last month. Tomorrow I should get my replacement Mamba 2012 in the mail (Razer told me the first one I had was defective and I should exchange it but I really think it's a problem with their drivers/firmware)

I have a Creative Fatal1ty 2020 Laser mouse. They came out in 2006 and are getting harder to find these days. I play WoW and click my mouse more than 40,000 times in many raids, my mice tend to last about 6 months. I've gone through about 10 of these so far, but I really like the button layout, having mouse5 as a 3rd real button almost like an old Logitech Wingman.

Logitech MX1000 wireless laser mouse

mx1000.jpg

best mouse i've ever owned.
must be 6 or 7 years old now and still works great.

someone mentioned earlier about getting the occasional hair in the lenses cavity making tracking go a bit wobbly. other than blowing out the odd cat hair or wiping crud of the feet, joy to use.

the battery life is still good during normal usage. during gaming tho (rts/fps), will run down after 10 to 12hrs heavy usage. this might be due to age of the device tho.

apart from the mouse and my MS 'Wireless Comfort Keyboard' (just can't use keyboards without the 'break' or curved keys now), it's the oldest piece of hardware attached to the PC.
