It's that time of the season again. Can't believe I was shovelling snow just 3 weeks ago and now its getting too warm to keep everything running. 3060 only runs for challenges usually and now going to park the 2060S. Just swapped the 2060 Ventus from Phantom Zone PC into the Server and I'll try to keep it running for a bit yet. Will still have WCG on a few threads both Server and Main PC so it's not a total shut down but I've got 3 ''heaters'' in this room and it's getting too toasty.

Even in this hot summer days, I'm running limited number of PCs but all of them are undervolted and/or underclocked. Nvidia/AMD gpus are targeted to run around at most 50% to 60% power limit with as low voltage settings as possible in Windows. In Linux, will just have to depend on power limit setting. For cpus, go to the bios and set fix voltage and core clock. Somehow I'm not a fan of running with PBO and CO on ryzen since I know the project tasks behavior and power requirement and I'm not doing gaming on these PCs.

Fair enough. I'm not going to disable PBO as I game on my main regularly and once in a blue moon on the HTPC which will now be off most of the time when its not folding. PZ is rarely on either so its not worth fussing in the BIOS over. The Server is throwing off some warmth so I'm gonna try to tuff it out but at least the 2060 Ventus is pretty quiet under load, good job by MSI with this one. The fact most everything is sharing the room with a 60" wall of plasma doesn't help when it's NHL playoffs time, not to mention MLB games and a little golf channel.

Don't feel bad. I always shut down after the Pentathlon and don't start back up until it cools off in the fall and I don't have nearly as much hardware. It's been quite mild here so far which is odd as it's usually in the mid to upper 80s or low 90s by now. However, that doesn't actually help with running d/c projects. It's too warm for the extra heat to be comfortable but not yet hot enough for the a/c to run enough to offset any extra heat produced. It's also been raining way too much to have windows open as well as having the humidity too high to do the same.

After the pentathlon, I don't want to look at my electricity bill again 😞

However, forward looking with less PCs running and optimizing the cpu/gpu clock/voltage, I'm using less electricity and send a some kWhr back to the grid. ;)

I've got all but four of my systems shut down too. Debating between keeping them around until fall, or selling them off and replacing them with more modern/efficient hardware. Even just the three systems in the basement is already keeping it uncomfortably warm down there.

Yeah...I keep wanting to get rid of boxes but I cannot just toss hardware that is still usable away. So, it just piles up in storage for a use case to pop up. I'm also tossing around the idea of getting a newer gpu but it would be for mining until it paid for itself...then depends. Most of my hardware runs in my bedroom which means my wife gets to veto most decisions if it increases the heat. Our room doesn't get a lot of cold air to begin with and if our door is shut it does get pretty stifling in there. I'm lucky she tolerates the noise.

The bedroom? I hope you have tape over any microphones ;) Seriously that's like a winning geek-raffle ticket if she tolerates that, not geek-lottery caliber but still a nice little win. I'm like you and don't like throwing usable stuff away just-in-case, sometimes it progresses into nostalgia (original Voodoo anyone?) but I hope to upgrade a couple boxen to at least RTX4060 by fall. Better output than a 2070 or my 3060 for only 115W TDP. Not sure what's gone wrong with my last running FAH on the Server. It's begun that 99.99% stall issue which has cropped up on other boxen on rare occasions but it's started doing it every run now and looking through the logs I'm getting no credit. Reinstalled the driver (again) and am doing a complete scrub and reinstall of FAH but if this doent fix it it'll just be WCG CPU proj's for awhile.

I am kicking around the idea of picking up a 4060ti and running salad on it in hopes to ROI it. But also thinking of selling the 2080's at a loss to help fund it. The only reason I'm heavily tempted not to is that potential of 5xxx series later this year.
