We got passed :(

I'll tip my hat to EVGA - their team (corporate or not) has helped Science and thats the important part.

In all honesty thought, this is why i love the Hardforum. You guys are bad ass. :) Fold on!

gkanakis - Best wishes and best of luck to your family. Keep your head up.

GK good luck and Godspeed to you + your family.

I started folding because my Grandmother has Alzheimers, I was just a gamer with no idea of what folding was. I went to EVGA for advice on a build. Thats where I found folding almost 2 years ago. In that time I have always looked up to [H] as the top dog.
You have some incredible guys on your team!!! You also have a few that need to learn respect in other forums (yes I know EVGA has some too).
I stayed with EVGA cause they taught me everything I know about folding, not because of the bucks that I've used to buy more folding equipment.
[H] you have a great team, I'm sure you will continue to strive and maybe even pass us again, I wouldn't expect anything else from dedicated folders.

Thank you to all who showed respect and genuine congrats!

I'm late to chime in but here are my thoughts.

I'm glad EVGA has the bux program. It has gotten a lot of folding done that otherwise would not have gotten done. I hold no animosity/anger toward those people that fold just for the bux. Its more of a disapointment. So lets be honest. Even though we might not condone the bux program on personal level, their is no denying that it has helped the folding@home project. So for that I thank EVGA. (edit: I know a lot of EVGA team fold 24/7/365, and my comments are not directed at youall)

I hope the [H] team keeps folding for the right reasons. When I first started folding we were in 2nd place (maybe 3rd). It didnt bother me then and dosent bother me now.

No worries, 2nd is nothing to be worried about.....its not like we havent worked to get up......knowing the determination of this team well i think we will be back at #1 soon enough.....Congrats EVGA, good job with the overtake, though we did "give you a run for your money"

My response to being passed is lighting up my L5640 tonight. It will be folding after testing and overclocking.

GK: PM sent

I think it's awesome that the only way we could be beaten was to bribe other folders with cash. I know we've done our own give aways and what not, but that was 100% member generated, not out of some corporate coffers. I do congratulate the EVGA group for their contributions to the cause. :)

[H] is a great team and put up a hell of a fight, more than anyone really expected. Both teams have increased production dramatically and I don't see how that can be anything but a good thing.

That being said, it's a little disappointing to see the sour grapes on the part of a few individuals around here. If you really care about how much science gets done, it shouldn't matter if Hitler were handing out money for 250k points per month, if it gets us that much closer to the next scientific breakthrough. And if someone goes to EVGA's site to register their shiny new video card and sees this promotion and starts folding because of it, it's a great thing imho.

Well guys - since I've gotten bill-shocked, my roommate and I've come to an agreement to ease down a bit because money's tight but I'm truly glad that we got to 4bil first before they did.

Now we're number two. And this thing is far from over.

So far from over-in fact, I've spoke with my previous employer seeing if there's some deal that I could cut with them for "work experience" at a lessen pay, the company's CIO is quite friendly and very eager to prove things for no reasons(Getting my drift yet?). I've spoke to him about folding at home, he's considering, if it gets the uppers' approval, to roll out SMP clients on over 5k clients. Majority of them are C2D rigs.

I've got him up to speed on the bigadvs and such - we both have agreed that it's only beneficial to roll it on rigs that has >2 GB of ram and will only run big units but not bigadvs. Now I've got no idea what the PPD output would be - it's too hard to say at this time and I'm hopeful that it could happen (No promises here)

Yes - it would be under Jon855 for the team #33. :D

So guys, eVGA said that they've turned it up to 11. They don't know that our knob goes to 12 and there's the turbo button on our rigs as well.

eVGA better watch out. Cause their rear mirror is going to be a front facing one soon.

But I've got catnip.......here kitty kitty...
*swishes tail and stares intently*

Nice one :D I hope to add a couple of SMP rigs to my farm this or next year, depending on how the video game business goes :)

Somehow we'll get that #1 position back again ;)

/me cracks knuckles.....

Comcast has the part (was proven) and the headend tech is installing it tonight, so prepare for some #'s from the freakster!

I don't care where or how the points were made... They all go towards the bigger goal of getting science done. I'm glad EVGA mowed us over. We were complacent. It woke us up and got our act into gear. So let's downshift and pass them on the left. :D

Fold on!

Indeed. Regardless of what people think of their program, it has had a very positive result for the F@H community and especially for our team to up the PPD significantly.

I believe all we have to do is keep staying awesome and we'll get our spot back in due time ;).

Good thing Awesome is my middle name

actually, it's Neal, but if folding can get my lame ass middle name changed that's reason enough for me!

wait, what!?!

I just did that math.....insane

I'm trying to get my GPU clients back online... found an office for rent for like $200 with power included... its actually cheaper than running them at home lol

had to sell a pair of my 6 core extra special xeons so I could afford an SR-2 and some ram for my other two extra special xeons :(

that leaves me with one extra special 6 core xeon that also needs a home :(

argh, need to sell stuff lol

I'm a newcomer here, and compared to most of you I am a low output producer, but I have some observations...

While I am disappointed that [H] is not #1 anymore, it doesn't really change anything. We are still collectively pumping the same CPU/GPU cycles into F@H at #2 as we did at #1. It's just a number next to our team name. [H] has made a singular contribution to the folding community that will always be respected. The people at number 3,4 and 5 wish they were us.

Of course there is some part of me that thinks that the whole EVGA/corporate sponsorship thing feels a little icky, but I can't be a hypocrite. I started folding 24/7 because of the current [H] Boxen giveaway, as well as the GTX460 giveaway. I realize that these parts were donated by team members, but let's be honest, it was swag to get people to fold just like EVGA's program is swag to get people to fold. The boxen giveaway was not to get the hardcore guys folding, it was to bring new people into the fray, or maybe to get people on-the-fence fired up. All I'm saying is that maybe those of us in glass houses should put down our rocks.

Our team has some inspirationally dedicated people in it, donating tremendous amounts of time, money, and expertise to the cause. The cause... Let's not forget why we do this. The fight with EVGA has done great things for science. Let's not let a little deflated epeen make us forget the reason the F@H program exists at all.

As I said, I am a low PPD producer, a newcomer, and a desirer of free giveaway hardware, so I'm probably talking out my ass. I will now commence ShuttingTFU.

hedcrash---this is the [H]orde....say what you want ;) no need to shut up when voicing your oppinion, and it is a valid one....the reason behind the dislike of the EVGA Bucks is not because its giving for folding, rather its a corporation doing it.....chances are if the team had a fundraiser to do the same thing, there would not be such anger towards the program

Well said Hedcrash. It's great to have you on the team!

I draw more of a distinction between our donations and EVGA's corporate giveaways, but your point has some validity.

BTW, there is no such thing as a "low output producer"!

I don't fold for either team, but I do have to laugh at everyone condeming EVGA for the bucks and prizes... am I not mistaken that I constantly see, and have been seeing [H] offering folders the chance at a core i7 rig? and required PPD to be eligable? oh wait that must be totally different.

we banded together and donated our own cash and hardware to get those prizes done.

see my post #110......its not the fact that it is being given(EVGA bucks) its the fact of who is giving it.....the reason there is an upset is that it is a corporation giving the money, whereas here 100% of the i7 rig was donated by members

There is a reason why I setup the points requirement the way I did!
If I hadn't, people would have flocked to the site and signed us the last couple days for a chance to win it.
I did this giveaway as a reward for folders of our team!
If people want to become members of our team to have a chance, then you need to talk to them and not me!

Also note that in the beginning I donated EVERYTHING out of my own pocket! No donations, just me!
I was floored when tjmagnito offered a motherboard and CPU. Then ReelMcCoy offered a video card.
These things were not asked for in a thread, but offered for the good of the community.
If you want to compare the "Bucks" system with our "Giveaway" that is your choice and opinion.
Please remember that Evga is a privately held company worth tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars.
I'm Gary, father of 4 kids, and work two jobs in Alaska making less 40k a year.
But thank you for the comparison! :D:D

EDIT: Almost forgot. Evga makes money with there "Bucks" promotion. I, on the other hand, make no money from it.
Unless you think I'm buying friends or something?:D:p:eek::D:p

Sorry, what did you say? I cant hear you...

You actually have to fold to have an opinion ;) even evga dudes can have an opinion because they fold :p

Or do you fold with no team?

I'm done with these posts about EVGA. I want to see more [H] boxen and I'll contribute whatever I can to make that happen. Next!

o just wait for the last 2 people to send me the pics and you will ahve 5 of em to view for this month :)

So [33] got passed. First time in over 5 years.

Boo "fricken" hoo.

I see nothing that team 33 should be AT ALL ashamed of.

Twenty folders of 100K PPD or more... That's insane. A ramp up of PPD that delayed the overtake by nearly three months is nothing short of incredible.

Seriously, team 33 just got beat by a team with more people. Hats off to EVGA and a bigger hats off to the [H]ardest motherfolders I've ever witnessed...

So keep on motherfolding, and start working on those Ratbuckz! and subliminal jedi mind tricks and number 1 will be 33 again.

^^^This, Everyone needs to stop griping and start folding [H]arder!!!

I fold for no team on my ps3... never considered the PPD worth while to be putting it towards a team but it's a good cause and I never use the system except once a month or so to watch a movie, so why not... kinda like when I use to seti with my screensaver.

PPD is always worthwhile. It would be easy to change to team number 33 and the username to jebo_4jc :)

Anything above 0 units is worth it. When I was active I left my PS3 folding over a year straight, made me 350k when I got back to reserve status. It's kinda like the uni client, yea it only does 100 ppd or so, but I've got one set up, all the work still needs done sooner or later
