Heads up folks. I think some private betas have slipped through the cracks again as there have been numerous reports of new Project 10101's being downloaded and crunched by those with -advmethods set on NVIDIA GPUs.

These seem to be very GPU intensive, working them very hot, and have a bad work unit name of p4744_lam5w_300K associated with them. p4744's are actually ATI work units. This is starting to be discussed on Folding Forums and I'm watching for an official reply from a private beta tester or developer with more info as to what is going on.

Update: A developer just replied stating that they are a continuation of p4744's and are worth 548 points and that psummary will be updated soon. However, this raises another question as p4744's are ATI based.

Try 13 out of 13 clients.
FahSpy calls them p4744 but the log calls them p10101.
They also fold a little slower than the normal slow work-units.

    Luck ........... :D

Yup, this is because of the bad work unit name in unitinfo.txt. It's kind of a mess.

    The normal progression is:

    Beta --> advmethods --> everyone

Sometimes a unit will get out to advmethods before it should but it does not happen often.
This is the whole point of the advmethods flag. They are units that are newer and *may* have an issue.

It is hard to judge what happen when a work unit hits massage usage.
Somtimes only a small number of users run a beta unit so problems soemtimes come up after the unit goes *live* (advmethods or everyone)
Just depends on how many users test that specific unit when it comes out.

They are a lot less ATI gpus running so to finish a project, they may have converted some ATI units over to nVidia.
Remember, every units is benchmarked on an ATI card so any work units can run on both hardware, just depends on how the Workunit & core are configured.

Yup, I had made my comment as gbowman posted that these were indeed planned for advmethods but psummary should have been updated as these were comming out. He'll get psummary fixed soon.

Good point about ATI, I had forgotten this.

If these are indeed the same P4744 units from a while back, my 4870 should do nicely with them. I was getting about 5k PPD last time they were around.

Holy cow, these things are hot! (temperature reference; don't know what point tabulations are yet)

I've got 11 of them running right now, out of 16 GPU clients.

Both FAHMon and HFM register these bastards as P10101

I think these are the hottest work units I've run across. Temps are running over 70 for the first time since I replaced my coolers but at least It doesn't sound like I've got hair dryers going inside my case.

    Finally something makes sense.
I've noticed about the last week or so that my gpus have been running hot compared to what they used to.... now I saw this thread, pull up logmein and check my 260's @ home in FahMon and sure enough they're P10101's.

SOAB I knew something was up...they've been cooking (especially gpu1, the topmost 260). Running around 75-76c even with 2x120mm side intakes in the HAF (which is about to be replaced anyway).

Good to know I can expect those temps to drop back down to normal levels...eventually. I started wondering if the stock dual slot cooler paste had dried up or something.

Definitely. My 9600GSO normally runs @ 50C and these are running between 58-59C.

I wo nderhow many OC this is going to make unstable.

A while back the current gen of WU came out. They put less stress on the cards and used less power. I wonder if this is a new norm on WU (going back to more power hungry) or just a short term throwback.

My G92 OC's to 1836 have been very stable with these so far. I think I've done about six of them.

I haven't had any issues with them but then again my cards are pretty low on the OC totem pole (8800GT @ stock speeds, both 260's are running at SC speed (1 is actually an SC, the other is a stock clock that I bios flashed to SC to match the other one).

The temps were what concerned me though...glad to hear it's normal (under the circumstances) because I'm switching to a PC-K7B for my i7 build and I didn't want my cards to roast in that case (vs the HAF they're in ATM).

For everyone concerned about their OCs, remember it's winter for most of us. I wonder what would happen if the temps were in the 80s or 90s outside? Something to think about if Stanford continues to release these WUs during the hotter months.

Another heads up. It looks like points are not being issued for these work units. Many folks are making noise on FF about this, hopefully a developer will notice soon. Last four updates I've posted essentially goose eggs and I usually have at least some points each update.

Argh...on top of the temps and additional stress to the hardware...no compensation. Hopefully it will get rectified.

Oh, looks like a big update might be coming. Stanford's site is showing 553,835 points where 3rd party sites have me at 547,785 points

my 3way rigwent down this Morning in the early hours. It's up on 353's now, I'd hate to see this not get any points

I know the points don't matter, but when that's the only form of compensation there is, they should give it. I mean we pay the bills, buy the hardware, and now stress it even more, they should atleast giveus points. Shit, I'd would take a few minutes and it's free

    Hope they get that fixed

Regarding the points, I think the stats server is backlogged for some reason. We just had another 3rd party stats update where I received 5664 points for 3 WUs. If you divide this by 3 you will note that it comes out to exactly 1888 points each. I haven't done any 1888 point units in roughly 12 hours. Therefore, if it is just now showing credits for these, it will still be a little bit before I start seeing my first 10101 units as I picked up my first 10101 ~12 hours ago when I handed in the last 1888.

Just took a peek at the Stanford stats and it looks like the update is finally in progress. I saw a 14,000 point bump from the last posting I saw at EOC.

    HOT HOT HOT :D

holy cow this WU is definitely working my 2 285's hard. I'm having to run a fanspeed of 65% to keep them below 80C. With stock fan speed control the cards would reach 90C, thats almost as hot as running furmark haha.

You ned to add the -advmethods flag to the gpu client to get these work-units.
I'm tempted to remove the flag from all my gpu clients as the old work-units have a better PpD.
But then again these are new science so I cannot complain.

I'm still waiting for a points update for all the ones I've folded today.
    So far I think I'm ~60 work-units short, ~30k.
Hopefully at the next points update, they will show up.

    Luck ............. :D

Thinking about strapping a skillet on top of your case and frying some bacon? Accept big work units, say yes to advmethods like Tigerbiten says and wait for the heat.

mmmmm BACON :D No but I figure since I'm on water it won't phase me, so I may as well get in on these work units. I'll switch em over once their current units finish.

Yuck, only 6800ppd on my 260s with these units. They are pulling about 20w more each than usual, The vrms are approaching 70 which is a bit hotter, but the gpus are at 45c, but it's a bit cooler right now in my apartment. I think I'll turn he fans down low and see if I can warm the place up a bit :D

I am now infected with these :D

Overall PpD is down 5 to 6K overall and the failure rate is somewhat alarming. My GTX285's are under water and only get to 50F (very heavily OC'd), but still getting EUEs.

    Warning to everyone.

These are no longer limited to people who opt in with -adv

they are mainstreamed for all. None of my GPUs fold with the -adv anymore because of these WUs, and 2 of my GPUs are folding them right now.

    Haven't had any failures, but...

    ...this is definitely true.
PPD has dropped down a good 1-2k per card (260) for me. :(

All 4 of my gpus are on these blasted things right now. My 8800gs and 9600gso haven't tanked that much, pulling 3500 and 2700ppd respectively - which is in line with a 1888 pointer. My 260s however are stuck in 6800ppd land, which sucks :(
*edit*I too noticed a failure yesterday on my 260 after it completed a unit and tried to start the new one, so I took the -adv flag off and they're back anyway lol.

My GTX260 dropped by about 1.5k PPD, each 9600GSO by about 500PPD. I had to drop down the overclock on the GSO in my main rig since it was EUEing.
