what has mario done for me recently? nothing! sure i had great time playing NES and stuff but fighing off 20 striders with the magnussen device was pretty baller.

freeman > plumber
 
what' so special about freeman? I think he is the worst character in gaming history. Doesn't say a word, absolutely no personality, and he's a tool.

I will take Garrette from thief over freeman anyday. At least garrette always says witty things

Pretty much.

Hopefully someday these contests will also have a way for console players to vote from their preferred entertainment system, to make it more fair (xbox live, PSN, wii channel).

Phew consoles, Mario is taking the cake... how's he getting votes? NES online? :p I bet about 90% of the votes for Link and Mario are coming from people who haven't played the latest game.

I just voted for freeman... I thought maybe link would win easily, but it aint so :)

I'd love to see freeman beat mario, like jab his crowbar into his gut then wack him to the side of his head, then continue to mash him up on the pavement, blood dripping down into the sewer where he belongs! ok, I like mario alright, just thinking out loud :p
 
Anyone find it strange that the 2 top characters are characters where the developers wanted "You" to be the hero?

I voted Link. I love Gordon too. but more memories.

Don't worry about it. I posted a link to it in several Zelda forums and groups. I've been trying to generate as many Link votes as possible.
 
Voted for Freeman up until now, but Link had to get my vote here. I think for Ocarina of Time Link will get my vote next round as well. I played the crap out of that game.
 
Voted Freeman, loved the half life series (although I have played every Zelda game released in US also). Its neck and neck at 50% for both of them right now.

Sure, the free man is certainly not #1 in testosterone heros, but at least he's not one of those emasculated anime cartoon characters. Link's not that bad, but still..

He wasn't that bad, but then someone somewhere said "I love little boys" and then Link went down a dark, dark road of design. :(

And here I thought I was living in the 21st century, the year 2009, where gender norms and gender itself were an archaic system to solely base values on. Weird. Must have time traveled back to 1950 or something.

On a side note... I do enjoy playing female as main PC characters. :eek:
(I'd pick that over girly men any day). ;)

If you mean from the thief series, sadly too many aren't aware of it. If you aren't referring to him, well then you should be because you just reminded me how awesome a character he was.

Yes, Garrett from Thief, my favourite game character by far.

I'm sure you're right, not enough people know about the games. I guess it has a cult following.

LONG LIVE THE ONE FREE MAN!!

Nintendo has been dead to me since the Wii and all the "anti-hardcore gamer" marketing that came with it. Mario is most likely to win but I'll be damned if I don't fight it TOOTH AND NAIL!!
 
Haha oh yeah, it's not suspicious in the smallest that in a matter of hours Freemen went from a 200 vote lead to a near 10,000 vote lead. :rolleyes:
