Vote for Freeman!

Yeah, steam made a difference. But I also think there are probably repeat votings too. At least before Steam announced the vote.
 
lol freeman might beat mario too. This will be weird.

But I have to assume that most people who voted for mario or samus or link would all vote for mario in the final. So it could be close to 200k votes in that direction and freeman has 100k right now.
 
Wow if Valve decides to announce the next vote, I think Gordon may have a chance against Mario. 100000+ votes. That's impressive.

Remember, it's not cumulative of all three's votes. Those voting for Mario/Samus probably also voted for link. In that case, you'd be double counting. But this is based on assumptions of preference.

Hopefully Steam releases another announcement for the Mario battle. Link has no chance now.
 
The finals isn't just about Freeman vs Mario, its about PC vs Consoles and since I despise consoles, Freeman is getting my vote.

And this is why polls like these will tend to favor PC games/gamers. Of course it doesn't matter who wins (just some random poll), but don't pretend it's fair in any way.
 
I'm pulling for a PC hero to win cause consoles get too much love from the media. It doesn't hurt that Freeman is the protagonist of one of my favorites series too :D

Children prefer the simplicity of a console. Media caters to children. 'nuff said.

OVerall PC gaming is absolutely the best. I love my Xbox 360 to death but I use it for as a media center and do most of my gaming on my desktop.

And WOOT! Gordon Freeman is winning as the #1 greatest Hero of all time?!?!? Holy shit! Up your plumbers-crack, mario!

(though I am dissapointed that Link didnt make it this far, in console-only he woudl have been my pick)
 
There's really no point anymore when Valve is just going to drag in their steam community. It's like two politicians but one of them has more money to throw at ads and their campaign.

Did they really? That is bs. Freeman is a new character that has only appeared in two games and expansions. I voted for him up until link and mario. Both of which have been around for decades in a multitude of games. All of us liked mario and link more than freeman up until 1998 at the very least since he did not even exist before that. I didn't even know who he was until half life 2 came out. I really love the games, but him as a character? He is just some scientist with a crowbar.

This isnt just about the characters (even though, your right it should be) it's about PC vs Console and Silly-comic-cartoonishness vs realism.

MArio might have been around since the dawn of the video-gaming era, but his gave have all sucked (minus the Mario RPG series, but that's still a pale shadow compared to legendary greats like ChronoTrigger) You mght say "but they sell well, the cant be bad" that's because they're targeted to children who see it and say "ITs Mario! Mommy! Daddy! Buy me this game!" If you've not noticed the gameplay is usually fairly monotone and boring. Even with the ground-breaking Mario-64 it all got to be the same after a while. There was no PLOT, nothing to make you want to keep playing. Yes, the HL franchise is not the most diverse game on hte planet either but it has a griping plot that pulls you through the slow times.

Lets also not forget Mario looks like he stepped out of a Sat. Am cartoon (his whole "perfect" world does) while our friend Dr Freeman looks like he came from the REAL WORLD, and the building and settings are REAL and havnt been designed to hide reality of destruction. When Mario's world does suffers it just means the sun goes down or fires appear. Afterwards everything is pristine again!

This is part of what makes him so epic! Give Mario a crowbar to beat the living hell out of his goombas and make them bleed and deform and I'll consider it a closer match.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying consoles are all crap. I've owned every Nintendo console since the SNES and will likely own every one past there I love the Zelda series so much I bought the N64 only for those two games (literally own no other cartridges for it) and I own and use an Xbox 360 daily (though more for media than games) I'm not a PC-gaming-fanboi just running his mouth, if Nintendo were the best I'd say so, they make _some_ awesome games like Zelda and some fun ones like Metroid, but Mario just doesnt stand up to Halflife. if you pit the Zelda series against the HL series you would see major sparks flying but this... it's just no contest...
 
It's hard to vote for Freeman against Mario...


But, I did it anyway. If only because Mario gave me SMB3, and Freeman, by proxy, gave me TF2, CS, Portal, and all the HL games.

I don't think that analogy works, considering there aren't any issues or anything to sort out -- you are presented with a picture of Mario and Freeman, and you can vote for whoever you want.

The people playing Half Life I'm sure have just the same kind of history with Mario as most do.

cry much? so because link is from the 80's that means he's a better hero? The pc needs a hero..Freeman is that hero. maybe valve is proud that there character is now almost number 1...everything is fair.

The analogy was mostly for consumer penetration and awareness. You are presented with both, yes. But I tend to think most on Steam will favor Gordon over Mario.

It's just a gamespot poll, so it's pretty worthless. But I feel the need to chime in when people insist it's a fair poll (not that you insisted it's a fair poll).
