I don't know how many people saw this yet, but it looks pretty awesome. It's now leaked in various places on the web. ;)

Microsoft Windows Vista TV Pack 2008

- ClearQAM tuning supported
- Vista Premium - Support for 6 tuners (2 ATSC, 2 ClearQAM, 2 CableCARD)
- Vista Ultimate - Support for 12 tuners (4 ATSC, 4 ClearQAM, 4 CableCARD)
- Custom channel number editing
- Favorite channels custom guide
- New/Improved thumbnails for recorded TV
- HD logo added to guide to show which programs are in HD
- Improved channel scanning and support for subchannels
- Tuner preferences for each channel (example, if more than 1 tuner gets the same channel, choose which tuner to use)
- Set tv series recordings for HD only
etc..

Wow, when can I get it? Does it work with all tuners or is there a supported tuner list?

I think thats info thats all still coming out. It looks like it'll install on a homebrew box as long as you haven't started media center on it yet. meaning it needs to be a fresh fresh install.

There's leaks of it all over the web... confirmed working on end user machines. ;)

you can install it as just an update to vista... I did it but my PVR-1250 doesn't get found as anything other than analog... I haven't been able to get the QAM to work with it yet BUT even using wintv the QAM support is pretty bad. I'm looking for a better tuner card right now.

If there's much demand for it I can upload it to a few people if they'll upload it to a few people ;)

its not hard to find..... i just got it also...

but i hate having to have it on a clean install.....

i dont want to reformat :(

You could always try a non-clean install. I heard of a few people doing it that way and it ended up working, but some have said it hasn't for them.

the version updated for me but can't find QAM tuner but it's a PVR-1250 hybrid card and its not finding the digital tuner or the QAM :(

I have the HVR-1250.. but I'm running Vista x64 so I can't test it. =/

Meh, not enough. I'm already planning on moving from VMC due to the total lack of competitive features, upgrades being tied to Windows development (meaning that the next VMC update is going to be with Win7) and the fact that MS has no fucking clue who they're developing for.

I'm going back to SageTV.

I'm going back to SageTV.

I’m almost ready to switch to SageTv but the only thing holding me back is MyMovies on MCE/VMCE. SageTv doesn’t have anything close to being as nice. I love their HDTV recording and also their HD extender is amazing. I don't know what to do.

I even almost purchased a XPS 420 with dual cable cards from dell and was going to use the extenders but again to use Mymovies on the extenders I have to use trascode360 to make it work and lose some quality. No matter what I want to spend there is no perfect solution. This sucks.

Well, I'm not using SageTV as a frontend so it not having a My Movies replacement doesn't even matter to me. I'll be using Media Portal as a frontend and I much prefer it's DVD catalog abilities (I have nothing but issues with My Movies when I try to use it, it's a nice app but it likes to lump my music in with my DVDs and it hasn't been correctly identifying either when it comes to DVD info). So yeah, MP lets you use DVD Profiler which means I can add DVDs to my database even if I've ripped them and turned them into MKVs or if they're still ISOs (never could get ISO mounting working in My Movies).

Was able to download this and it worked on my 2 month old install of vista 32 ultimate. I can't wait to get listings for all the ota dtv subchannels.

I've downloaded this now, installed it. I found a 32 bit version of a beta decoder for h.2xx or whatever it is. I can't find the 64 bit version though. Anyone find that by chance?

so does this mean we now have support for the HD PVR in VMC?

Huh? TV Pack doesn't add support for H264 which is what you need for the HD PVR. All it does is add a few tweaks to VMC (which should already been there) as well as ClearQAM support (finally).

and just so you know, there beta support for it that's not included in the realese. It was part of a closed beta that was meant for DirecTV, etc. It does exist. I have the 32-bit on my computer right now. Problem is I'm running Vista 64. Looks like I'm going to have to throw in an old drive, and install Vista32 just to see how it all works. :)

According to the thread at The Green Button, someone apparently managed to enable h.264 support by overwriting MSDTVVDEC.DLL with the version from the beta which was leaked a few weeks ago. He/she says it's not very stable though.

MS appears to be completely ignoring its European customers, who of course need h.264 for OTA HD broadcasts such as BBC HD. Coupled with the "official" OEM-only status, Fiji so far seems to be one huge disappointment. :(

Sweet! Thanks for the x64. I'll give it a try with my HVR-1250 without reformatting.

No problem! I was waiting in the x64 as well. Doing a vLite build right now and then testing with my HD Homerun.

Well, 64-bit doesn't work with the HVR-1250 in my machine. It won't even acknowledge there's a tuner there.

Did you do it on a clean install? Some are getting success with not doing it clean install, but MS says that the proper way to install to avoid any problems is on a clean install.

Well, my tuner isn't supported by Hauppauge under MCE for ClearQAM with their plugin anyway, so that might have something to do with it. The MCE TV Pack did install properly though.

I have always been able to record HD content with VMC. Is there something i'm missing? I have a HDhomerun and have always had QAM and HD.

HDHR caps MPEG2 and it has it's own special plugin that allows for ClearQAM.

This TV Pack allows for native microsoft support under Media Center for ClearQAM and fully remapable subchannels.

Has anyone tried this with a AVerMedia 780? They had a special driver and utility that enabled ClearQAM in VMC. I've been watching and recording HD (directly from my Charter cable too ) and don't want to install this and break it.

unless the driver was rewritten like the hdhr to support the tv pack, then it wont work

I'm using the latest driver from Avermedia came out about a week ago and installed in this order with no issues on my 780's:

1. New drivers for 780's.
2. TV Pack
3. Install Playready PC Runtime
4. Install KB951685
5. Install KB950754

Another mirror, just incase. I have included in this one both x86 and x64 plus all required updates.

Thanks for the linky- Im gonna try it on alive vista64 for my hvr 1600, lets see if it works. i really dont wanna have to clean install for this. wish me luck I'll report back with results

**********UPDATE**************
Thank you staknhalo for the link :D

installed on a somewhat fresh vista64 (about 4 months old) - and I'm happy to report that new media center is working without issue on my wintv hvr 1600 ( note must use beta drivers to work in vista64 with more than 4 gb ram.) this thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1332748

so your getting qam channels on that 1600 card? That only on the astc side so your not getting OTA now right? My cable company puts all the locals on qam but NBC for some reason but i can live with getting them qam with my dual 1600s.
