Virginia Tech Shootings

"Those crazy Americans, and thier guns"

Ottawa University campus.

Specially when the shooter is from Korea!

My thoughts and prayers go to the victims families and those that are directly affected. You can't prevent things like this.

you haven't watched the press conference.. he was legally allowed to Purchase those guns.
he was a LEGAL alien resident. that's the law in virginia. he in fact bought the guns a few days before he used them. So now that that fact has been brought to your attention what's your opinion now?

not whatsoever.. that is a persons will, the tool used is absolutely not a concern. he could have easily killed 30 people by driving a car across the campus at 50mph. You must learn to focus on the problem, the gun is not the problem... I urge people to open their eyes and release their safety latch on blaming guns. Anyone can snap, and if they want to do harm and kill, it's gonna happen. Gun control does not work, it only hurts law abiding citizens... there so much overwhelming hard evidence to back this, it's almost inarguable because it is in fact, incorrect. If he legally purchased the guns, it does not matter.. if he wanted them, he would have got them. If someone is willing to shoot 32 people and then himself in the face.. laws regarding who can and can't buy a tool is not going to stop them.. it is a futile excuse by weak people refusing to address the real issues.

Yep. Timmothy McVeigh used Fertlizer that you can buy at any lawn and garden store and diesel that you can buy at any gas station to make his killing weapon.

Fact of the matter is that multiple things can be used to kill, people need to realize it's not just guns that kill. Nurses who snaps can kill using OD methods, other people uses knifes, some as simple as kitchen knifes or a car.

blaming guns for columbine is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell being fat.

I'm pretty sure she skips the spoon parts. :D

Being an English major sure has its frustrations, but I doubt it had anything to do with why he became a giant asshole.

read what I've already written, it doesn't change anything. You are dancing around the issue you refuse to address. The gun is not the problem, they are not going anywhere, it's a constitutional right that will never disappear. The founding fathers specifically and inequivably gave "the people" the right to "bear arms" - theres no room for judicial squirm there, at all - and it was completely intentional. The left-wing views that are so prevalent in the media today are products of their environment... our country has been so successful and isolated from the real pain of war, violence, and struggle that we founded our society during. These laws reflect a knowledge and experience of struggle. When Paul Revere was yelling "The British are coming, The British are coming!" through the cities.. he was not yelling because the British were coming to rape and pillage the villagers. He was yelling this because the British were coming to take the colonist's guns. The reason we are allowed to carry gun is simple... checks and balances, it's a way for citizens to maintain control over their government, and maintain control over eachother. The more gun ownership the less crime... sound absolutely ridiculous? Actually, it's proven factually time and time again. Remove guns, increase crime... increase gun ownership, decrease crime.

One of the students in the German class said he was using a handgun.

People will say anything as some just don't know. Most people has a problem identifying automatic from semi automatic weapons.

Also, I'm not going to trust the word of a students, thats 5 full reloads assuming he had a 7 shot load per load... 5 reloads... and thats assuming he hit dead accurate one shot per kill.

Also, I would question the statement where students were lined up and shot... no one would stand there to go out one by one, certianly more than 7 people would have a chance to subdue him.

Still doesn't prove anything in your statement. It's still on school property which was illegal and it still wasn't a CCW either which is illegal too. So your statement has no bearing.

OMG the shooter was Korean, I cant believe people are quick to blame a forienger claiming he was from CHINA.

he was asian, people make snap judgements. Blame the media for that. I said originally in the post, being the first person to mention that... the media probably just ran with it.

The average retard doesn't know the difference between asians. I apologize on their behalf.

I'd be interested to delve deeper into the study from which you make this conclusion. And I'm crossing my fingers that it's not from "Gun Research Institute" or similar.

You can't tell an Asian from their own regions. China being the largest population and having a lot of Chineese students go to VT, it's easily to assume so.

See, if guns are outlawed, people will always be in fear that someone has one, and that person will have control and power. If people are allowed to have and carry a weapon, they will know others may have one as well. Everyone's cautious and suspecting and the control of a situation will be more balanced.

I still say we should replace them all with rubberband guns. :D

Aye, I'm crazy curious as to what exactly took place in that classroom. If I realized the gunman was going to shoot no matter what we did, I'd try to subdue him. Yeah, there's the what if I make it out of this?, but sometimes you have to make a move to save others.

What's done is done, and hopefully schools across the country will reconsider their security infrastructure and protocol.

I'm no where near being mentally retarded (I hope you someday stop using such jaded, immature terms), and I can't always tell. I can tell between Japanese and Chinese, but Korean is hard, and nowadays you have biracial children to throw you for a loop.

The whole 'Asian' label is skewed. Russians look nothing like our model image.

The CNN story says the shooter was a loner so it's difficult finding information about him. This makes me wonder about whether he was treated badly by fellow students or just withdrawn.

Such a sad story. Regardless of your thoughts on guns, etc, please take to heart my previous words about enjoying every moment and treating everyone with a kind spirit, just as you would want to be treated. Whether they are Asian, African-American, male, female, mentally/physically challenged, etc, everyone needs to make an effort to embrace each other.

It doesnt matter if you cant tell if a Japanese to a Combodian, you just dont immediatly assume it was the chinese from china and then put it all over the news before positive confirmation.

In the end the shooter's etchnic background doesn't matter, 32 people are dead and I'm afraid we'll never the reason why.

Welcome to our culture.

People assume things, period. The news like hot words "North Korea, China, Iran, Iraq, etc etc"...

I think also what triggered it was that China made a statement saying that it wont happen over there or something around those lines.

Yeah doesn't really matter. I don't even think a POS like him should deserve a title of a specific ethnic background... all he should be known as is a Savage.

LOL, I can defiantely provide evidence if you want me to, but just a simple google will most likely yield results.

this is a privately run organization, not related to any "gun research groups". they do advocate and protect the right to bear arms as their primary purpose, and there is plenty of information on the website from various publications showing research and articles.

Is like that saying "Guns don't kill people, people kill people"!

Let's look at the facts:

1) People who are hell-bent on trying to kill other people, will use whatever means available. This Cho lunatic could have done even worse, had he strapped on a vest laden with explosives (easily available). To say that "if he didn't have firearms, he wouldn't be able to do this" is pure hogwash, since he would have been smart enough to figure out a different, possibly more lethal, way. Heck, he could have driven his car on campus, and run over many people.

2) Law abiding folks are law abiding folks because they DO obey the law. Once in a long while, a law abiding individual will turn to crime. It happened here, and it will happen again the future, since we live in a free society. Don't judge the law abiding folks based on the actions of one sick, deranged ninny. Stop comparing the law abiding folks to criminals since criminals don't obey the laws.

3) There are over 26,000 laws regarding firearms, and not one stopped this lunatic from breaking the law by a) bringing firearms illegally onto campus and b) unlawfully using them. The only law that could have worked was the one that wasn't enacted.

http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/wb/xp-50658

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

4) Blaming inanimate objects for the conscious decision of a sentient being is just plain silly. Those firearms didn't give off 'evil mind control rays' that forced Cho to commit the deed. Cho was, in the words of Tommy Lee Jones in "The Fugitive," "a very bad man."

If firearms are responsible for this, then the Jack Daniels Distillery is responsible for Ted Kennedy's swimming party at Chappaquidick, along with the ice cream factories being responsible for making the racist Rosie O'Doughnut morbidly obese.

He looks like an innocent school neard that dressed like boy scout. He was a loner and most likely had a miserable life. Id say this guy was probably picked on by everyone in school. That can probably drive someone to do something fucked up like this.

Picked on? Shit, at my college [U of Mich], those are the type kids we get answers from and praise. The weirder they are, usually the smarter they are. So far in my 3 years of college, I haven't seen anyone (even the weirdest faggots) ever get picked on.

That is a 100% true statement.

Gun don’t kill people any more than cars drives themselves, guns don’t do anything as they are inanimate objects not beings. A gun is a tool like a hammer or machete, guns do not shoot themselves.

BTW: Contrary to what you are hearing today this is not the worst school massacre in the US… the worst would be the Bath School massacre in Bath, Michigan: 45 people dead and 58 wounded and not one gun involved.

That's a pretty typical life of an English major. Even professional writers tend to be introverted. Most people are never victims of society, so they have no idea how low one can feel always being pushed away, ignored, uninvited, etc. It's definitely something worth snapping over.

But there's absolutely no excuse for what he did.

I saw people getting picked on in college. Behind-their-back nicknames, public teasing, rumors, etc. I went to a small school, though. Eventually you'd know who the pick-on people were and witnessed them getting picked on (usually at campus events). Definitely loners, but being a loner isn't always their fault.

By the way, your username is Unabomber in case you forgot.

This is very true. Nerds getting picked on is naive HIGH SCHOOLbehavior. In college, knowledge and intelligence is respected. Yeah, you might joke that you don't like him if he messed up the curve, but there's always the respect. So if anything, him being a loner is usually a thing of choice. If you notice...even engineers have their own cliques, so again, I think he made a conscious choice to be like that.

Yea, Bath Michigan had more deaths. I visit the memorial there once in a while.

Ah, another one closes his eyes or turns his head in denial...

it's probably media spin... don't you notice that before there is fact, there is speculation? and that speculation is always always some racial predjudice or sterotype?

he was asian - he must be chinese
if he's chinese - he must be on a student visa - like the terrorists were - he's not one of us americans
he is one of us - he must have been isolated or picked on like the columbine kids.

etc..etc... theres a pattern if you read between the lines.

"innocent school neard"

I love 2007 where nobody is responsible for their actions, somebody else ALWAYS “made” them do it.

How about the truth instead… he was an evil SOB that deserves to rot in hell.

Saying he was probably picked on isn't excusing him. You're talking about the end result, but we're discussing what helped drive him to want to do this.
