Holy Industry leader. WOW thats just... Perfect? i think is the best word :D

so basically, they were almost identical to begin with :D both used Lian Li everything pretty much, both are top notch, and oPC is the uber enthusiast segment. fucking AWESOME

so now whenever anyone wants a huge gaming rig, its oPC for sure :D

It may be good for the company, but its bad for the employees (opc's employees, that is). :(

See genmay for more details.

Wow...let's hope VM doesn't get too big for its britches. It's doing just fine and still building a great reputation.

We are offering positions to all Overdrive employees, although some may not have received official notice since this just happened today. We are not trying to put quality people on the street, I assure you. One of the key assets of Overdrive is the people.

All in all, do you guys think this aquisition is a good move for Velocity?

on paper, it looks like a GREAT move, but in practice, it has yet to be seen :)

It seems like it, from a business standpoint. However, why are we getting two different stories on employment? I tend to believe that is Leon says he is getting shafted as far as a job goes, he is. Maybe his story isn't straight though... who knows. But I think it would be in your best interests to get in contact with him ASAP and find out where the issue lies in the contradicting stories.

I think its a great merger imo. ODPC is a great company and VM is great as well and overall I think they will compliment each other perfectly. GL to both. :)

I'm not sure Alienware has changed,VooDoo didnt seem to break any records.
I'm certain of one thing.....VelocityMicro's customer service is the best I've been exposed to. If VM can carry that CS to Overdrive and Overdrive offers a little something that VM didnt previously.............you'll be a hit.
I know you are committed to quality.
I just hope you aren't over-run with the extra work.

Also, I hope you will stand behind your offer to keep the Overdrive employees, although its always hard to move away from home, I've been there numerous times myself.

PS.....I cant wait to get my new laptop I ordered.....wink,wink. (I 've been nothing but pleased with VM in the process so far!!)

From what I understand from Mario, he was not in the office today. Mario has told him tonight he does have a position in Richmond, and I understand he's now excited about it after all. I can't speak for him, only tell you what I know. I will be at Overdrive tomorrow and hope to meet him.

Hi, what VM said is true, I was not told of the full situation, my grandfather passed away yesterday so I was not in the office today, I will be in tomorrow in which I will be given the full details etc.

Velocity Micro has in fact offered me a position for them if I am willing to re-locate to Virginia. Which I believe is reasonable. I am excited about the transition and the possibility of me working for VM. When I made the post the information that I was given tonight I obviously was not aware of.

PS: I am looking forward to meeting Mr. Copeland tomorrow.

We're so excited! I am really looking forward to having Overdrive onboard. I would really like to hear what ya'll think about this, too...Randy and I want to hear your concerns and questions.

I can't stress just how wonderful this merger is for both companies--I could not even imagine a better partnership.

Magoo...We have expanded our support resources recently, so the quality of the support will not be affected. I personally screen and test each technician that comes on board--I hire the best of the best. The awesome news is that we're still in Richmond, Virginia...and everyone in support is local to the area. Richmond turns out the best techs I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and we're glad to keep the operation in Virginia.

Magoo, Laz, and all the rest...thank you once again for being such loyal customers. You're the reason that Velocity Micro exists. You rock!

As if you're not tired of hearing this...if you have questions, email me at htaylor@velocitymicro.com

I only offer my congratulations and well-wishes for the future. I think that it's a great acquisition. It's great that OPCs could be in more people's homes.

Mario can work some incredible magic on machines and everyone at OPC is super-quality.

Good news to all. Glad to see that the top-notch employees at OPC arent getting the shaft. It's like Einstein and Hawking decided to team up...nothing but theoretical awesomeness.

Congratulations on your merger. Both companies can benefit from being under the same roof.

Overdrive should benefit by
1. Leveraging VM's purchasing power to make their products more affordable
2. Taking advantage of VM's production capacity and efficiency to improve the timeliness of system delivery
3. Using VM's existing customer support system

Velocity should benefit by
1. Taking advantage of Overdrive's expertise in building (and providing a warranty for) a highly tuned, highly overclocked, air-cooled, truly boutique PC.

So if my PC breaks where would I sent it to?

Per the FAQ in the article, your warranty with OPC will still be valid. Since OPC is staying operational, at least for now, it appears that you can still send your system into OPC for servicing, and OPC will still provide support for their systems.

Stuff like this warms my heart. Its great to see a bunch of the good guys getting bigger and really making a name in the industry. Congrats to Velocity on the move!

The only thing that concerns me is that success can sometimes cause a company to loose touch with the very things that lead to that success. There are enough builders out there that charge bloated prices but provide substandard support. If they can offer decent prices and support, fine,as long as they don't become another Dell.

I dont think Heather Taylor will let that happen.

Double Woot that Leon2ky got a direct response from the Boss.:D
When was the last time anybody who's anybody from Dell,HewlettPackard,.....you name it even took the time to come in here and talk to us. Did Michael Dell come in here and post about what anybody thought when they bought Alienware????? Same with HP. Not to my knowlege they didnt. (as if they care what I have to say????)

I think these guys are real people who actually want their customers to like them and communicate with them about what's good and what they've had trouble with when it comes to their services. My hat is off to VM.

I agree, and will trust this community to let me know when I've lost touch with the core principles that have brought us this far: Fast computers, fair (if not low) prices, and a dedication to customer support. Notice how nicely aligned this is with OPC?

Thanks for the support everyone! We can't do this without you!

Randy

With an attitude like that, you seem on the right track Randy. If building a pc wasent such a rarely enjoyed hobby of mine, I would easily buy from your company. Good luck.

Pretty smart acquisition. VM as mainstream performance and now they tap into the uber PC market.

I wonder how it will affect, or not affect the VM configurations, given that ODPC was typically very high end. I would expect they will remain the same?

No worries, guys. Magoo is right--I simply wouldn't let my customers experience sub-standard support, because that's not what Velocity, or Overdrive, is all about. We will maintain the same level of support we have always had no matter what happens. It's all about the customer!

I couldn't have said it better myself. In my time with Overdrive PC I've always made it known to our customers that we want to take care of them and make sure they are satisfied with not only their PCs but also with the service and support they receive from OPC, and I know Velocity Micro will not let that change.

With absolute due respect Leon, in the best of worlds I believe that, but when it comes to business everyone has a price eventually. In the end everyone would like to be rich and set fort life. Alienware once said many of the same things VM is saying. Again, every business person on this planet has a price.

I think this is a great move! I trust that VM will maintain the excellent build quality and outstanding customer service they had before. I love my VM PC! (had to throw that in there ;) :D )

My friend, I have had the distinct (dis)pleasure of dealing with Alienware computers. They are probably one of the chief reasons I now build my own. They may have said alot of things, but to my knowlege and experience with them and Dell (home, not business) they made good on zero. I have never experienced such poor CS in my life, period. On their behalf, the computer was fine.
I have just purchased a laptop from VM and I can surely say that they walk the walk.:D

they walk the talk :p meaning they do what they say the will :p they walk the walk, basically is they do whatever it is they do :p just figured it correct the phrase, as im bored, and have another point to add :D

Out of the many that ive told to buy VM system, not a single one has had issues (eight i think... i dont remember the exact number lmao its somewhere between 5 and ten :S )

I know that I could say that it's not really about the money with us, but I also know that saying that means nothing...actions will speak louder than words in the long run. We'll just have to prove it to you all. ;)

I can tell you, personally, that I won't let the quality of support decline, and I know that Overdrive is right there with me on that--what good is a kick-ass product if your technical support experience is disappointing and just plain frustrating?

Those of you that have dealt with my team know that we provide a different experience than your average technical support crew. We don't have tiered support, and the same people who fix your systems also answer your phone calls. Sure, we've grown, but that doesn't mean that we will lower our standards for techs, or compromise our way of doing support.

If anyone has any questions, you know my virtual door is always open.

We all hope for a good relationship with the new puchase. I for one took the plung, got away from Dell, and bought my first, but not last VM.

Now VM, please find a way to sell to those that got the 32 bit Vista Ultimate on their new system, the 64 bit version without having to fork over $400.00 retail. :)

I was jut wondering how long would it take to integrate the two companies, basically I am wondering how long til you get settings from Overdrive to do crazy oc's. :p

First of all, thanks for the congrats. We've gotten so much positive feedback from customers and potential customers, it's really been wonderful. As far as how long, well, there are so many factors governing that, I can't even comment. However, I know that you guys aren't the only ones that are excited about the possibilities, and I imagine that everyone will be notified once the technology become available.

Ah...the Vista 64 issue. Long story short, the retail version gives you 32 and 64, the OEM version does not. It's the classic retail vs. OEM battle. Our hands are tied in that regard, because we do indeed distribute the OS as OEM. However, should our capability ever change, our customers would be the first to know.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend...I am going to bed. LOL.

I don't know why VelocityMicro would buy an OverdrivePC unless it was to reverse engineer it! And why would they advertise buying a competitor's PC?!?

j/k Congrats on the acquisition and best wishes for a happy merger!

well since this is a niche market, it makes scene and I have talked to some best buy employees at 2 stores near me and they have sold a good amount of the machines. They are pretty decent in the pricing for an average user, plus i like how you guys use the ac freezer 7 pro heatsinks.
