Probably one of the best and most atmospheric FPS ever!
Peoples that have already played it will feel compelled to click on the link and replay
http://store.steampowered.com/app/2600/

add the latest unofficial patch from:
http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php
which contains many fixes and activates unused content from the game

btw: there is also a "true patch" which in theory more closely mirrors the troika intentions
http://www.tessmage.com/forum/index.php?topic=56857.0

there is some debate about which patch to use, maybe try both.

enjoy!

I'm surprised the metascore is 80 considering how buggy as shit the game was. The unofficial patches make it playable, but I mean...come on, really?

Game is better than 80 meta imo, a real classic. Yeah it was buggy as shit, but that didn't stop me from beating it twice before any patch ever came out. You can widescreen hack it now too, plus the community patch makes it much more polished. I already bought two copies today.

As a player (maybe former player at this point) of the pen and paper table top RPG, this was quite fun. Its a bit like Fallout 3 where you have to go in knowing its a bit buggy and the animations can be pretty bad. That said it's kinda immersive and a good adaptation of the White Wolf game.

Of course I've not played any of the patched versions, having beat it with 3 different clans in the first 2 weeks it was out ಠ_ಠ

Patched game makes this game the bomb... that said I don't know if I wanna buy it because ...... I've already played through it like 3 times as well. Any more play through... doesn't seem to really offer that much.

The second link gives me this message: Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!
Spamming is not permitted. User banned.

Even when I try to click register. I've never been on this forum in my life, not sure why they would give that message.

As for the first link, does Steam already give you the updated 1.2 official version if you just simply install the game and keep all your installed games auto updated?

Will the newest patch (7.6) be all that's necessary to take the game from official to unofficially completely patched or will I have to go through in sequence?

I've had this game in my Steam account for a long time, but I never get a chance to start it.

If you do not own this game and pass on it, then you hate gaming, true story.

:( I don't hate gaming...for some reason I never had a lot of interest to play it since it was so different from [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire:_The_Masquerade_%E2%80%93_Redemption"]Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:VTMR_cover.jpg" class="image"><img alt="VTMR cover.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/79/VTMR_cover.jpg/256px-VTMR_cover.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/7/79/VTMR_cover.jpg/256px-VTMR_cover.jpg[/ame]. I'm most likely depriving myself from a good experience though...

EDIT: I really hate the way links work now...

This is from the team that was responsible for the original fallout and also arcanum. A really great game that you can tell got hurried by the publisher. Its a shame because even with the warts its a classic, but imagine what it could have been if allowed to fully bake. The pre-mentioned patches are great btw. For a really good time play as a malkavian.

$5 is a steal. Fully patched + community fixes would put the metascore somewhere around 90 IMO.

This is a very very hot deal.

If you have not played this game now is the time. :)

Wesp's unofficial patch is up to 7.6 I think

This game absolutely rocks. I waited for years to get it, because I don't really have much of an interest in Vampires. Boy was I missing out. One of the more memorable games I've ever played.

Wow, awesome price. I don't think this game made $5 for 3 or so years ago when I got it at D2D. Get it while you can.

Like braamer said, you don't have to like vampires. And if you hate twilight, then you probably will like this a lot more. Awesome game. Atmosphere makes up for any shortcomings, and patch/unofficial takes out most of the shortcomings anyways.

For those that don't know what this game is like, it's an action RPG first and third person with heavy emphasis on atmosphere, dialog, and sleuthing. Both melee and gun combat in real time based on ability scores with player skill as a key component as well. Sneaking and avoiding combat is also possible and advantageous in many situations.

Thanks OP. I've heard so much about the game, lots of recommendations, so I decided to buy it. Could you/someone go into more detail on what exactly the debate is on which patch? I'm coming into this as a complete outsider

wesp was the patcher who would continuously version after version of his patch for a long time. Even adding new features and restoring content that didn't make it into the game. Then someone (who you might perceive as a drama queen if you saw his posts) said that wesp's later patches do not follow the intent on the devs, so he and others took one of wesp's older patches and made a few of their own tweaks and then called it the "true patch". Meanwhile wesp kept making new versions of the unofficial patch for a long while later. He still might be supporting it for all I know.

"Intent" of the devs? Sounds like a drama queen indeed. Last patch from wesp looks like it is dated last month (7.6b). I think I'll try that.

I've owned it since release. Actually tried the pen and paper game as a result of playing this, though I think more people did it the other way 'round. Originally played on a Pentium M laptop with Geforce Go 6600 or something like that, and it ran well enough. Great game, buggy at release as others have said but I guess I was one of the lucky ones or just willing to forgive a lot cause I liked it so much, cause I can't recall specific examples of bugs right now.

I may go back and re-play it now if I can find my copy.

I will say this -- fairly linear from what I recall. You have the same tasks in sequence regardless of your clan choice (with a few small exceptions), visit the same locals, etc, and while there are different ways to perform some of them it's similar enough that you're going to have had enough by the second or third time through in most cases. This doesn't mean it isn't a great game, it certainly is and is entirely worth $5, or even the $50 I spent years ago. It's just something of a let-down if you go back and play it after playing the pen and paper game, where there's obviously a lot more flexibility and that's a big part of the draw.

The main quest follows in a certain order, but the rest of the game is pretty open. You can run around and do all sorts of other quests at times of your choosing. It's not Oblivion sandbox, but there is more than plenty of opportunity to run around at your own pace and get into all sorts of crazy side quests.

The NPCs in this game are the most memorable of any game. At least for me, more memorable than any Bioware game. Infact, I can't think of a game with more memorable characters.

Went ahead and bought it last night. Thank god there's a third person mode so it won't be another game where I get headaches...

might try the hex edit for the orignal widescreen fix on widescreengaming forum and use it for eyefinity tonight. guessing 2d stretching will make it unbearable though.

I couldn't tell you which is witch right now, but there are two widescreen fixes. Wesp's patch should include one too I think. One seems to make the characters look 'less skinny' (which I kind of like) and the other makes the field of view wider. I don't remember which was which since the file name was similar or the same.
