Upset about the Verizon Dataplan Read this:

qft, I have two lines on my contract. the 1400 everything plan, I get 18% off for being a officemax employee. Their unlimited to/from any cell phone knocked my usage down to next to nothing on my minutes. the rest my mom use calling me to talk. it is unbelievable how decently priced they have gotten over the years. Their customer service has gotten so much better and will hand over your MSL code if you ask.

if you pay your bill on time every month and have a plan over $69.99 you can do a new upgrade every year. it is freaking sweet deal

Can you give a breakdown of what you are paying? I went to an AT&T store last night & got a written quote. The quote is for a 4 line, 1400 minute Family Talk plan. It includes 3 iPhones & 1 dumb phone. Cost of equipment not included. Here's the breakdown.

$80.00 - 1400 minute plan
$29.97 - 3 additional lines
$30.00 - Unlimited family text
$90.00 - Unlimited data for 3 iPhones or equal.

$229.97 pre-tax. That's about what I am paying now with Verizon. The Verizon bill includes a 21% corporate discount. I will also be adding $60.00 per month if I bring it up to the AT&T plan. Add the discount to the AT&T plan & it's an easy $100.00 savings per month. I will also add AT&T's coverage is very strong in the areas I travel. The signals are stronger than Verizons.

I guess I should thank Verizon for slapping the laziness out of me.

The only thing Verizon has going for it is the coverage for people who are in non-urban areas. Of course, they charge accordingly.

Here's how it would brak down for Sprint:

$109.99 for 1600 minutes (Employee referral plan that anyone can get)
$30 for 2 additional lines (4 total)

139.99 total

Text, data, and navigation are included on all lines. Unlimited mobile to mobile for ANY cell company.

If you wanted to use a discount, you can do this:

$129.99 for 1500 minutes, unlimited text, data, MMS, Nav, mobile to any mobile on all phones.
$40 for 2 additional lines (4 total)
-10% discount at the minimum

$153 at the maximum. 10% is a VERY low discount, I know my company gives me 25%, which would make the cost $127.

Dam. That's awesome. I checked Sprint's coverage map & there's no coverage at my home. I find it strange because when I had Nextel, I had great coverage at my home. When Sprint purchased Nextel, I lost coverage. That's what drove me to Verizon.

actually just because you dont have sprint coverage doesnt mean you cant use sprint. their roaming policy is if you roam less than 60% of the time there is no charge. I rarely lose coverage. and when I do, I know that att, verizon, tmobile all drop in that area.

Shared Plan
Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included $129.99
Employee Discount Sprint 15% -$19.50

apparently officemax gets 15% on sprint but 18% on nextel. go figure. but yeah very cheap. that is for three lines

That is a pretty good roaming policy unless you make the bulk of your calls from home where there is no Sprint service...thus you're roaming ;).

Is that on all their plans? I am considering the Everything Messaging 450 plan for the Samsung Reclaim at $49.99.

The questions I have are about the roaming and also can I text Canada for no extra charge... can't seem to find that info out for sure.

EDIT, never mind about the text to Canada: Includes unlimited text, picture and video for domestic messages sent or received. Bummer, that's a deal breaker for me as I have friends up in Canada that I text often. Gonna have to stick to Alltel I guess.

Also, here is what it says about roaming: Enjoy domestic calls without roaming charges on the Sprint Nationwide Network. However, international and off-network roaming rates will apply.

Met, the only time you get charged roaming is for international. The problem is, if you have NO sprint coverage near you, and 60% of your minutes are used for roaming, you'll be asked to kindly leave Sprint.

Where exactly are you guys that you have ZERO Sprint coverage?

I'm right on the edge of coverage for just about everyone. I always had spotty service with AT&T but Verizon can usually hold 2 bars. My friend with a T-mobile G1 is in and out of service. Sprint doesn't have a big customer base in my area, and I don't know if any of my friends have it to try at my house. I'd definitely be interested in trying it for the price. My house is on the edge of the Sprint coverage map. T-mobile said the same thing, and I don't get reliable enough service to use them.

Sent you a PM with my location. If I could get around the roaming part, I could use my Google Voice to get around the international texting to Canada issue.

This could potentially save me around $45 a month.

Sent you a reply, Met. In your case, there's not much you can do. The nearest ACTUAL, non roaming Sprint coverage is like 50 miles away. If it was spotty, I would have suggested an airrave.

I replied to your PM before I saw your reply here.

So, no go for Sprint then for me right? They have coverage where I work but I can't garrantee that I would talk on it a majority of the time there vs at home in the evenings or the weekends.

Ok, so how much would it be for 2 lines, 700 minutes with unlimited texting on one and texting and data on the other? Where are you finding about these discounts? I went to the Sprint site and it looks like it's about the same price as Verizon, when you don't include the 9.99 a month data plan crap.

that's the thing... There's not much in the way in discounts as far as "Data on one, but not the other". The way the plans are set up, EVERYONE gets data/texts/etc and you save a ton.

Besides, they don't have a 700 minute plan for families, unless you go with JUST minutes, no text or data, then add them seperately, which doesn't make financial sense.

I love sprint. While Verizon and AT&T keep fighting over coverage us smart folks get to save a fortune with sprint. We get a 20% discount from the wifes job. We have the same plan as you, 1400 minutes unlimited everything else, when we compared with verizon it was almost $40 more a month and thats including the 20% we would be getting through them too.

Gotta say ~$100 a month for 2 lines with 1400 minutes and unlimited calling to any mobile regardless of network along with unlimited data, text etc. cannot be beat.

I do still have to listen to my brother who is a stupid verizon fanboy tell me how much better they are. He pays about what we do for one line and less minutes and says its worth it for their "awesome network".

I was with sprint back in 2000-2001 and they had the worst customer service i have ever dealt with still to this day. They are so much better now its hard to believe how bad they used to be.

The problem is coverage. Verizon charges more, but there's a reason. They have the best coverage. Great. I like paying less money like everyone else. But I don't live in an urban area where I have options. I drive 1/2 mile up the road and I don't get ANY coverage with ANY carrier.

You can't say that coverage is a non-issue. I HAVE to pay more because if I don't pay more I have NO COVERAGE. It's not a matter of being smart or dumb.

Well, that's part of the pros and cons of living in the middle of nowhere. Nothing against where you live, I'm sure it's nice, but cell coverage is a con. *shrug*

Hmm. It's been 4 days since I fired off my email to VZW Corporate. I figured I would have gotten a response. Either they are overwhelmed with hate mail or they have given up.

It's more the fact that people say over and over again that you're "stupid" if you have Verizon compared to some other carrier. It's not like anyone likes to throw money away, but some people have no choice if they want to use a cell phone.

Buy the phone, pay $45.00 a month for unlimited everything and if only we had a way to tether to the phone I could disconnect from my expen$ive wireless service.

Data outage for Verizon

http://gizmodo.com/5484537/verizon-customers-are-amidst-a-nationwide-data-blackout

Sent my Angry E-Mail to them a week ago and no response. So much for customer support. Think I will go back to a land line and just stay home :(

I got a magicjack and it works fine. I'm not a big fan of the "spyware" stuff they bundle with it, but I just use it with a $80 thin client I got off ebay and essentially I got a phone line for about what my cell bill is every month.
