i can attest to DFI dashi's comment about the danners not leaking. i've actually dropped mine a few times, and still nothing coming out.

Anyways... I have enough money to get that pump, so all I need is a trip to the hardware store, and a radiator, and some fans....

Once I see my Aunt I should have my back-up box sold, and that will pay for the radiator...

I think at worst I might have to get a floor standing fan blowing on my radiator...

like many other german produced blocks, that thing looks to be pretty flow-restrictive. also like many other german produced blocks, i don't know of any solid testing of just how flow restrictive it is or isn't.

if you're willing to use the 8x PCI-E slot, which shouldn't give you a performance hit, there are any number of chipset blocks that you could potentially use.

you could probably use a quiet aftermarket air cooler on there too. i'm using a MCW159 chipset cooler on my own board.......it's pretty quiet with the stock fan off and an 80mm low-profile, low-CFM fan blowing across it and my vid card memory.

Someone on RedFlagDeals just offered me a Black Ice Xtreme 2... I told him I'm on a tight budget, but offered him $75 for it since that's what it would cost to get the Swiftech radiator shipped to me. I also asked him how long it's been used and what he used in it.

How much better is the BIX2?

it's worse. if anything you want the BIP2.

HWlabs rates the BIX series as higher performing, but they actually do a little bit worse than the pro rads do when you are using quiet fans.

since the BIP2 retails new for that price, i don't think that's much of a deal.

i'm pretty sure that bigfoot offers free shipping on orders over $100......i think that the block and rad would count for that, would it not? already order the block, but not the rad?
 
Yeah, I ordered the block and tubing, was going to buy the pump, then wait to get the radiator... but Al's doesn't have the pump in stock.... if I order the Swiftech MCR220 it will come out to $75~, you say the BIX2 is worse performing than the Swiftech MCR220? It costs twice as much?!?!?!
 
Update.

Got an E-Mail today from BigFoot Computers, they are out of stock on the MCW6000 block and are putting it on the discontinued list... so I asked if they could give me a deal since I'm on a tight budget. I hope so, because I won't be getting watercooling if I have to spend anymore than I already have to.
 
Just as well, if you're going the 1/2" fitting with 7/16" tubing route the 6000 would be a mistake as it's 3/8" native.

You can likely get the Apogee for about the same money as the 6000 and it's A: universal and B: comes with both 3/8" fittings and 1/2" fittings.

The Apogee is cheaper than either the Storm or the TDX and is very close performer.
 
Actually the Apogee is $65 CAD, and the TDX is $48 CAD, the MCW6000 was on-sale for $39 CAD...
 
Wow, the TDX is $54 here while the Apogee is $40 roughly. Go for the TDX seeings as it's only $9 more than the 6000 and is a superior block.

Generally when they discontinue a block they do so after theyre out of stock and never plan to get more in.
 
I asked the representitive if he could give me a discount on it :) Hopefully he will help me out, because I seriously can't afford the extra $9...

I guess you're not following what I'm saying...He said it's out of stock, meaning there are no more and it's discontinued meaning there will never be any more so it's hard for the rep to give you a discount on something they don't and never will have again.

If you're lucky maybe they'll give you a discount on a TDX seeings as you ordered the 6000 before they listed it as out of stock.

The way you worded it was like you were trying to get a discount on the 6000 still because it was being DC'ed.

Swiftech MCR220 or Black Ice Xtreme 2?
 
The Swiftech will give you the best performance with lower flow fans over the BIX-II. The fin density coupled with the thickness of the rad on the BIX-II will choke the airflow down to the point where a low-mid flow fan won't effectively remove the heat. The Swiftech has a lower fin density and is thinner so it creates less resistence to airflow.

I hope this clears up your confusion.

The BIX-II will beat the Swiftech if you're running a push-pull fan setup with mid-high flow fans but then you're getting added noise over and above what a quality aircooling rig would provide.
 
Ah, that makes perfect sense, if I can get that BIX2 cheap enough I will get it and just do a push/pull setup then. this is going to be a bitch finding where to mount a rad that is this large, probably mount it on the side of the case which the motherboard is on.
 
You could just mount it on the roof with one pair of fans inside the case and one pair on top of the rad. Have you decided on the case yet? I still say that the Armor with the rad standing vertically in the front of the case is a very nice setup. You'll have the hard drives mounted in the top rear, 4 front bays free for 5.25" drives plus a 3.25" front bay for either a media reader, floppy or 3.25" bay fan controller.

It would make your life far easier.

This is budget, I'll be using my Chieftec Matrix Series, same as the famous/infamous Dragon towers.
 
The way I'm suggesting is similar to how I mounted mine here...

I cut a hole in the case roof then ran the tubing up to the rad behind the 5.25" bays with the fan below the rad sandwiching the case between the rad and the plenum for the fan.

On yours you'd cut in 2-120mm fan holes, holes for the barbs to fit down into the case and a small hole to run the top fan's wires down through...lay the rad ontop of the case, screw the rad to the fans inside the case through the case roof thus locking the rad in place and then mount the top fans on the rad routing the wires for them down through the hole for that purpose.

You'd want to make the holes for the barbs towards the PSU so that the hoses would run up behind the 5.25" bays and thereby shorten the hose run and avoid any sharp bends.

I hope this makes sense...
 
I just hope I can clean up my power supply wires good enough to fit the hoses through.. they're really bad.

i'm acutally kind of worried that you'll be let down by the results: air cooling keeps a64s pretty cool, and pretty quiet.

I just want something to do.. like this new hardware I have... I got it around a month and a half ago... DFI board, x800GTO^2, Opteron 146... I'm bored with it already... sure it helps my FPS in games.. but I'm bored with this hardware... that's why I want water, it gives me something to do for a little while.

But I really think I'm going to save up some more, and add a GPU block, my video card actually started overheating in Quake 4 today... ran fine for about 30 minutes, then I started getting artifacts... maybe I'll do some volt modding later on if I get water for the video card, crank out some real numbers.

Probably go a bit further, a nice DD block setup, CPU -> GPU -> Chipset.

Don't say things like that. I have a Storm and a Maze 4 sitting here and I'm already having second thoughts about watercooling.

the thing is, the swiftech 6000 series blocks outperform the DD blocks at all but the highest flow rates. unless you are getting a powerfull (and expensive) pump, the DD gear isn't going to be an advantage, and will actually hurt your GPU temps a wee bit.

no, i'm not anti-DD, both my blocks are made by them. the CPU is modified a good bit, but all the same........

volt mods? maybe come summer for me......but i never do risky things like that unless i am making some reasonable income, to cover my sorry ass if i screw up.

Don't expect anything large, just keeping my CPU under 50c in the summer, and my chipset also.

I'm not even monitoring my temps right now. I just want to do it to prove to myself that I can and for the noise factor.

i just wanted to make sure that you had a good handle on what watercooling is and isn't able to do, since you expresssed some doubt as to its worth.
