Ive been finishing up my mini itx watercooled build, and the pump is driving me insane. i bought the 350 because it is supposed to be one of the quieter pumps, but the running noise is unbearable. im wondering if you can undervolt these with either a controller or 7v resistor just as you would a fan?

anyone?
 
You should be able to undervolt it...

However, I have a cousin who runs a modified MCP350 (modified it so that it runs like the 355, which is faster) and I hear absolutely nothing coming from it. Perhaps something is defective with your pump? Or it can be vibrations. Before, my cousin had it sitting on the bare bottom of his case, and the vibration of plastic against metal made an annoying sound. Put rubber underneath the pump, and the sound went away immediately. He runs silent fans (less than 1200 RPM), so it would be pretty easy to tell if any noise was coming from the pump.
 
ive used both the 350 and 355. the 350 was slightly quieter. neither drove me insane.

if you want to adjust it, i would use a controler over the 7v trick. 7v may be low enough to not be able to kick the pump on initially. the minimum starting voltage is stated as 9 volts. you should turn the controller to full on before you start the PC, then adjust it down until the noise is bearable.
 
I ended up going with a 9v resistor. the noise is definitely more vibration based, Im just having a hard time dampening it
 
Stick a thick rubber pad beneath it, it worked really well in my case.
 
This looks like it might be a viable option to help with the vibration.

pump wont power on at 9v. IM thinking about a dcp2.2 or CPX-1 instead, anyone want to sell me?
 
Make yourself a shoggy sandwich with some 3M double sided tape and foam that computer components come with. That's what I did with mine and it's damn near silent.
 
yeah its mounted upside down against my psu now. rubber pad - foam - foam - foam - rubber pad, and its still pretty loud
