been playing around with my q9550 for the past couple of days, because of high temp I kept lowering my vcore voltage and stress it with intelburntest and prime95, to the point now it's under stock voltage, 1.200 in bios 1.192 in cpuz. tried 10x intelburntest, 9 hours prime95 yesterday night, no erros. max 56 degree using prime95, 70 using intelburntest. my question is, is this a sign I have a really good chip? I have a feeling I can lower the voltage even more.

It sounds normal. You should be able to undervolt and overclock a decent intel quad.

If you're trying to build a cool running silent PC on air cooling, you'll consider undervolting, and if you don't undervolt too much, you should still be able to overclock.

oh forgot to mention, the q9550 is at 3.8ghz. did 3 hours memtest, 9+ prime95, 10x intelburntest. no errors so far. and this is at 1.200v, shows even lower in cpuz

not sure what VID is but according to Realtemp it's showing 1.1875

LoL - ok you got a great chip if you're able to OC that much on such a low vcore.

I don't intend to overclock.
If I would like to lower the CPU temperatures for the CPU fan to spin slower, how could I undervolt and even underclock my Wolfdale 8400 (3GHz) ?
Thanks for your help.

Start by lowering the vcore and then running prime95 for long periods of time to see if it's stable. if it is, decrease the vcore even more.
