Tribes Ascend Keys

I've been playing this a little, and it brings back such good memories of Tribes 1

Played a few hours in CTF, enjoying it so far. Love the fast pace and mobility. I got one beta key to give a friend from the launcher button, do I eventually get any more? Have a few friends who would like to try it.

So far, I'd say they did really well on this...it's more like the original Tribes with an updated graphics engine. It's what Tribes II should have been.

As much as I enjoy TA, it is no Tribes or Tribes 2. It is what Tribes Vengeance should have been.

- no scripting
- no modding
- fixed loadouts
- small maps
- health regen, loadouts on spawn, generator is pointless to defend, vehicle control, abundance of hit scan weapons, skiing is simplified... and the many other aspects of this game to make it more appealing to the "general/casual" audience.

Anyways here are 3 more keys to give out. :D

It seems like if we use up our keys they just give us more, funny way to do a "closed" beta but hey, the more the merrier.

What's everyone's fastest speed? Up to 256 km/h. All other games I haven't even broke 200.

Still hoping for a PM of a key, I can never seem to get one if they go public they are gone in 20 minutes.

Wow, this game is an absolute riot. Please, understand that I have never played any of the tribes games (I was mostly occupied with Q3/UT99), and I can't believe on what I missed out on. I'm pretty sure I've got this whole skiing thing down, just a matter of practice now.

In any case, I'm not sure if most players are just terrible or what, but as a Rank 1, I placed 3rd, 1st, and 2nd in my first 3 games, respectively. There's just nothing like nailing a mid-air shot while traveling at 200km/h.

I had the same experience actually; I dominated my first few games. But I'm pretty sure there is a tier system, so you only play with people around your rank. Because once I hit rank 6-8 the game suddenly got REALLY difficult and everyone is a pro. :)

So I just played a bit...game is fun, though I'm wondering about how the F2P mechanic will work out in the long term. Like will this game flop? I was considering getting the $30 pre-order because it is a fun game, but I don't want to invest in it if it's going to be dead in a month. Already they are saying to buy all of the classes you'd need like $120+, which seems absurd to me.

I paid the $30 for the starter pack which gave me enough gold to unlock 5 classed. Now 3-4 weeks later (don't know exactly) I have acquired every class except for one. This was with the VIP bonus. I have yet to use my 30 day boost pack. I should have all the classes buy now, but the crack called Dungeon Defenders have been keeping me at bay. I'll be back into Tribes Ascend soon I hope. It would really help if the engineer in TA was worth shit. Since not, I have a GREAT deal more fun building defenses in DD.

BTW... More keys :p

Hmm...How much longer is the starter pack going to be available? (i.e., how long until the game is released)

EDIT: Also, you must play this game a SHIT TON...I've only got like 200 tokens from several matches (usually in the top 3 every time) and the classes require like 9800 tokens to unlock. Leveling up seems to take a really long time.

Yeah, I've only got like 7000 tokens after playing for a bit. The classes were 15,000 to unlock before the last update.

If you play the game for fun and eventually get to unlock other stuff I think that's a pretty good deal. If you just want to grind to unlock then you are better off just buying the class.

But really, if you could unlock anything in an hour or two of playing hardy anyone would pay money for it...and that is the ultimate goal.

I get about 70 tokens +/- per game with playing with the VIP bonus. Without that bonus I would be getting about 50 tokens per game. So your shit ton of game time only equates to about 4 games

The only class I have yet to unlock is the Jumper @ 9400 tokens. Meaning after 135 games I should have him unlocked. Non VIP will have it unlocked in 188 games.

I paid the $30 to unlock 5 classes. Since then I have unlocked 6 other classes. It wasn't too big of a deal for me. Stick with one class and play till you have maxed out the rank. When you max out the rank or get close to maxing out the rank, you should be near unlocking a new class.

FYI buy any in game item in Tribes Ascend and you get the VIP bonus for life. That will greatly help out with unlocking classes.

BTW if you enjoy the game, pay the $30 for the starter pack. The developers don't make a dime other wise. The $30 worth of unlocks and perks will help make the game a little more enjoyable for yourself too.

Is there an friend's list feature where we can add each other to play in-game together? :D

Also, I have very high hopes for this game since I'm a huge Tribes fan. Might jump on the $30 starter pack today.

Only a few nitpicks,

1. Regen health, god it is so lame when you're having a glorious 1v1 battle and then the other person decides to high tail and ski away until they regen to full HP
2. I haven't been able to grenade/spinfuzor combo, has anyone else? (Aka, toss a nade and hit it with a spinfuzor disc to basically 1 shot someone)
3. The locked weapons in each class. I'd have preferred or have the ability to mix and match weapons based on armor class like the original Tribes.

Yeah, 75-125 tokens per match seems to be about normal for me (non-boosted). Really, it shouldn't take people very long to unlock the classes if they're at least a decent player.

I might buy the VIP Package on payday, not sure yet.

Agree with both of those points. Especially the health regen. I was fighting some dude and he started to gain distance after I got him down to like 5% HP. I reengage like 30 seconds later only to see he's back up to full.

IMO you should only be able to regen health if you stand still.

I agree about the loadouts, too. Having to unlock the classes only to have them be totally set is kind of lame.

Uhhh, no, if you get 70 tokens per game and a class unlock is 9800, that is 140 games per class unlock. You say you have unlocked 6 classes, so that's about 840 games. Each game is somewhere between 10 and 25 minutes (generally, usually closer to 20) so that is like 280 hours of game time. Sorry, but to me that is a shit ton of time.

Jug and Pathfinder are half price BTW. These are the first two classes that you should be looking at obtaining. I have also been playing since the start of closed beta, so I think that I have been awarded a few extra tokens in my favor because of all the adjustments that they have made to the economics of the game.

BTW the game is not about collecting classes. Its about fully upgrading a single class and kicking ass.

1) I agree 100%. But look at the new popular games right now. They all have regen. So Hi-Rez for w/e reason thinks that they need to coward to these noobs.

2) Yeah it doesnt really work like it did back in T1. No mines to jump with as well. And mortar jumping is a joke.

3) This is sad and will NEVER change. Hi-Rez thought it would be a good idea to go this route. In response a MEGA-THREAD was created in retaliation, pointing out the flaw with this design and the benefits of classes with mixed weapons. But Hi-Rez had already dedicated too R&D to back peddle. So we are left with the current meh system.

So what are the most important classes to unlock first, so you know I do not waste my tokens unlocking a bad class?

Also I hate the new direction of somethings in this game but look at it this way. I paid for BF3 and I have to put up with almost all of the same crap, unlocking weapons then watching them get nerfed as soon as I unlock them. Grinding away at points to unlock. it is some messed up shit but if I am going to put up with that garbage then TA sounds like a much faster higher skilled game to do it in then BF3 and alot less bugs to boot so far.
