I'm transporting 2 RAM sticks and I don't really have a case for them. I actually kinda just wrapped them in paper and but them in a box so they won't get crushed.

I hope my RAM is ok. And also I'm writing this for future ideas of transporting RAM. Thanks.

all the ram I have bought in the last couple of years are just packaged in those plastic clamshell packages that have (as far as I can tell) no antistatic properties, I am pretty sure you are ok. If you want it might be better to save an antistatic bag a motherboard or some other card came in to use in the future but I dont think its a big deal like in the old days. After the first zillion chips came back "zapped" the design was changed to make the parts almost immune from ESD. However I alwasy work on pc with the power supply installed first but TURNED OFF, and the power cord plugged into the wall into a grounded outlet and as I work I very often make sure to touch a bare metal part of the chassis. I make sure I have all the parts handy so I dont have to walk across the room/rug to go get some part in the other room.

I just put them in an anti static bag for a hard drive and put them in a plastic clam shell for a hard drive as well.

I think white paper has no anti static properties so I did that in the beginning, but I shoulda thought of using those anti static bags.

Thanks for your response guys.

I transported a 128MB stick of PC133 in the ashtray of my car for over a year and one day I actually needed it and it still worked.

The plastic clamshell packaging is ESD safe; the black bottom half is dissipative.

If you don't have a static bag, just wrap the parts in aluminum foil.

it's not plutonium.

i took my ram to work and back in my hand and it worked fine.

That they worked is no indication that they weren't damaged. But, hey, if you want to run sloppy and loose, go for it!

lol. what a doof. nice try at a personal attack.

i was trying to let OP know that transporting memory can be done in the manner he described without detremental effects.

Maybe you don't have a "sparkling" personality like some of us do that would normally damage the ram! ;)

I've always used aluminum foil when I can't find a static bag, and nothing's fried yet. Heck, I even carried one stick of pc133 wrapped in the stuff around for two months in a backpack, pulled it out later, and have run it in a file server for the last year.

cheers
