Time for a new mouse. Help?

Could have sworn I read about product quality / sensor issues on it.

I've seen people whine about sensors, but there is no such issue with my Naos 3200. It does exactly what I want it to. Those who recommend mice based solely on the sensor are missing most of the point and their advice should generally not be your primary concern except in extreme cases. A mouse is MUCH more than a sensor.

You like permanent angle snapping?

I really am curious to try out the XTD now with the praise I'm seeing for it. Hopefully I can get to Fry's this week. Probably no chance until Thursday and possibly not until the weekend with my luck. I then have to hope Fry's has them in stock. They show but last time I went I couldn't find any and the sales guy I talked to had no clue.

my frys had about 10 of them, and few other Roccat products.

Roccat really is kicking ass :)

It would figure. The Fry's I went to had plenty of Opticals, +, and some other models. Couldn't find a single XTD. I've got a few within driving distance and the website shows that all of them have the XTD in stock. I'll have to figure out which I can hit. I'll hopefully be able to stop by one after work.

My list of mice is not the longest ever, but close.

Logitech: All of them? G500, MX-whatever series. Did skip the few latest versions
Microsoft: Sidewinder X5 or whatever it was called
Rat 7 (worst mouse I have ever owned...terrible sensor).
Razer: a few of their top mice 2-3 years ago.

Enter the Mionix NOAS 5000. Best mouse I have used by a landslide. Super comfortable, no issues with the sensor (not really sure where that info came out at...but the thing is perfect), and their customer service is amazing.

I am such a fanboy I bought their mouse-pad as well. Don't like aluminum pads at all...so learned a valuable lesson there, but still I will likely only buy Mionix mice from here forward (and I am usually the type of person that will never buy the same thing twice...just look at my GPU purchasing history. I literally switch teams every upgrade).

I decided to try a g700s. Coming from a mx610 the shape is as close as I could expect to find; taller back, same length, which forces slight palm contact when I use my normal anchored wrist-fingertip grip. As people describe the sides have a rough texture which feels almost "dirty", hope that wears down somewhat. Tilt-scroll tactile feedback is definite - better than I had hoped. Scroll wheel is a bit odd but not necessarily bad. Button layout is quite nice for my usage but will need to adapt to 2 extra thumb buttons. Sensitivity seems excellent superior in every way to mx610, no complaints. As mentioned elsewhere, USB cable is too stiff for normal wired usage. A bit heavy if you want to pick it up to readjust, you'll want to rely on high dpi. All in all first impression is positive.

Just curious, but what is the difference between the Roccat models? The website descriptions are a mess of catch-phrases and all the mice look pretty much the same except for maybe size and the color of the LEDs.

You're definitely not wrong in this, but from a technical point of view the sensor *IS* the mouse. Everything else is ergonomics to accommodate us in using them.

E:accidentally a letter

The Roccat Kone Pure Optical is the best that Roccat offers. The Savu is the second best and could be bought for cheaper than the Pure Optical, but the Pure Optical reportedly has better internals than the Savu.

interesting. why do you say the pure optical is best? obviously its preferred over the savu, but the xtd?

The Kone XTD's Avago 9800 sensor has inconsistent tracking versus the Savu or Kone Pure Optical's Avago 3090 sensor.

interesting. I cannot say I have ever noticed any issues. good to know though. might be a good enough excuse for me to try the optical. only problem for me is I think the pure is a tad smaller and the XTD is the ideal fit for me.

I have noticed nothing wrong with my XTD. Gaming is just fine in all fps games I play.

I'll have to double check. Looks like a pretty identical shape but only (mostly) internal changes? Sadly, I can't find the Pure Optical locally.

I may still end up trying the XTD as Fry's supposedly has it local.

I would get a Savu if possible, then.

Tested the Sav out at Fry's. Honestly, the thumb button positions and lack of DPI adjustment buttons put it off the list for me. Sadly, it seems all of Roccat's mice have the same thumb button positions. I'd like them shifted forward a bit as the back button is too far back. I'd rather my thumb naturally hit the back button and move a bit for the forward button than the reverse. I may check out the XTD again and see what I think.

On the flip side, the M95 actually wasn't bad. Though my thumb was resting on the sniper button which was slightly odd for me. The extra thumb buttons were in a decent configuration for me. I've read nothing but bad things about their software though. That plus a few mentions of tracking issues.

The G400s is sounding decent at this point.

The G400s is another reccomendation of mine. It has comparable tracking to the DeathAdder and good Avago 3090 sensor based mice, such as the Savu and Kone Pure Optical.

How's the middle click? The G5 was insane to try and middle click on. I ended up just assigning it to tilt-left on the scroll wheel and was much happier.
