Thief $10

The "Master Thief Edition" is a buck more, but it's a 29-32.99 MSRP on Steam. Still not a bad deal.

The "Digital Collector's Edition" of CoH 2 is 20 bucks for the next four hours.

Scooped it up for $10.19 to be exact, received key immediately. Great deal , thanks for the heads up OP!

Dayum. Good find. I'm almost always looking at CheapShark, but this time I felt like going to the forums first to see what's going on.

Anyway, thanks again!

Just throwing this out there. If you are looking for thief + more, grab a AMD gold reward key off of ebay. I paid $25 for mine and got Sniper Elite 3, Tomb Raider, and Thief.

Unfortunately it still has horrible audio issues (latest patch 1.5 broke things that 1.4 fixed). Audio clipping over short distances kill it for me. It's a shame because it feels like a great game otherwise, but I could only play for an hour with subtitles before I couldn't stand the lack of immersion. In Steam you can roll back patches by using the Beta tab in the game properties, thankfully, but none of the ones I tried made the experience any better.

Wasn't sure about it at $59.99 for PS4. Pretty sure about it at $10 for PC.

Thanks for the heads up!

Easily the most unfairly battered game of the year by critics and Thief series fans.

I consider the Thief series near-sacred, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game, although it certainly has issues (audio mixing being the worst).

True on all counts.

For the people talking about the audio issues, are those related to AMD's TrueAudio or w/e its called?

True on all counts.

Yep, just replaying it for a second playthru and I'm firmly convinced it's a far better game than the official reviews claim. It does stealth gameplay almost perfectly. The game's main detractions for me now are (considering I'm relying greatly on past Thief games for comparison):

- A bit clausterphobic. Thief 1, 2, and even 3 seems to have larger open-world environments
- Too many quicktime events
- Too many area loading transitions, although Thief 3 had this issue as well Chalking this one up to console limitations...
- Some AI weirdness
- Audio mixing. Either rushed or they hired an idiot for this job
- Not as distinctly spooky as past games. Characters seem too cliche and cookie cutter somehow

I know that sounds like a lot of negatives, but all in all, there is no deal-breaking issue there. The gameplay is generally very good, the atmosphere terrific, graphics are excellent, level design well-planned (apart from the smallness of it) and the story is more than passable.

No, it boils down to bad processing plain and simple. The math that is programmed to occlude and tunnel sound is bass-ackward in my professional opinion .

To give you an idea how bad it is: there is an in-game cutscene that introduces another character right at the beginning. She is standing 5-10 feet in front of you, yet her voice cannot be heard at all. Actually, if I turn everything but my center channel down I can hear her if I turn my receiver nearly all the way up... And the main character's voice is about 10x louder than everything else. To add salt on the wound there is no ability to adjust the volume individually. You get three volume sliders: music, SFX, and voice.

The biggest issue that I saw was that enemies/NPCs could be heard through walls as if they were standing right next to you. That seems like a pretty big problem for a stealth game.

Not as bad as people make it sound.

Really?

I usually don't complain about issues like this, but the audio in this game is so broken that it ruins the gameplay. Can barely hear people standing next to you, but someone across the room is crazy loud. Makes it hard to sneak around when positional audio is that broken!

I'm playing on a ps4 with 7.1 audio... Sounds like the PC version is the same.

Have you actually played it? It's pretty bad. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a game about stealth and needing to know where guards were before you actually see them.

guessing this game is going to sit in steam purgatory until the audio gets fixed....

I'm a couple hours into the game, sound is a bit odd (and loud) at times, but nothing gamebreaking, for me anyways.

What I really noticed was when I enabled Mantle my Minimum FPS Doubled and the game became glass smooth! That was a nice bonus!

I didn't have too much of a problem with it until the whorehouse... that's when I'd decided I had enough. Have you made it that far yet?

Yup.. got 34 hours played in the game. I never once felt the game to be broken to audio issues and had no issues playing. Maybe its an onboard audio issue. I don't use onboard.

As it currently stands Thief is my Game of the Year. For now.. or maybe the whole year.. time will tell.

Wouldn't count on the audio getting fixed. Unlike in-house developers who are staffed to do bug patches, this work would require an audio coding/mixing specialist -- not something that normally gets changed after release.

While the audio issues are noticeable, I never did feel it "broke" the game. At worse, it does diservice to the immersion which is otherwise great.

It's not just an onboard issue. I'm using a Soundblaster Zx connected to Logitech Z-5500 speakers using 5.1 channel direct audio. Console versions have the same issues, where current gen has dedicated AMD TrueAudio DSP hardware, which is what Thief was supposedly built for.

I just got an email from GMG with a 66% off coupon for Thief (Regular or Master Edition) which I think brings it down to this same price.
