Arctic Ceramique 2, all the way.

I can easily and completely remove it with a paper towel and some 91% isopropyl alcohol, and it does just as good of a job as any.

Yeah just kind of wondering what people are using more or less. I have been using AS5 for the longest time, and was thinking of switching it up on my new build I am currently planning out. I have heard other names mentioned (I forgot most of them) that people were saying are just as good as AS5, but without the burn-in time.
 
mx-4. its easy to use. nice and liquidy. Doesnt freeze to be rock hard when it hits the metal unlike some of the old thermalright stuff i've used hahaha.
 
Well, MX-4 is probably the best, but i voted other for Ceramique 2. Why? Because i can get 25 g of Ceramique for 7 euros, while about the same amount of MX-4 costs about 25 euros. And for what? 0,5C difference, which can fall under the statistical error or application method?
 
Currently have Shin Etsu G751 (accidentally bought this instead of x23 7783D)

I'm waiting to get Indigo Xtreme sized properly for LGA2011.

Their sales people speak to availability in mid-late December.

Cheap, comes with applicator, 7 gram tube (I hate those tiny tubes) no complaints.
 
Noctura NT-H1 because it is non conductive so I can use it on my GPU waterblock, it also is in the top 5 (within .5C of all rivals except one) in this review :http://skinneelabs.com/tim/comparison-2011/ and it does pretty good performance wise even with a poor contact mount, (AS5 can do up to 7 degrees worse on a poor mount, that chart is the real plus of this review). I used to use AS5, but I didn't spend $200 on water cooling to loose efficency on the TIM.
I had a lot of trouble working with Shin-Etsu X23-7783D and no im not gonna heat it up in water first. Also dont want to bother with Indigo Extreme and get only two applications for the price.

But the 2.5C difference you can get over the most popular high performance pastes (Shin Etsu, AS5, etc.) is more of a difference than you see between coolers that differ sometimes a lot in price.

For instance, the difference between the H80 on high (overclocked temps) and the H100 on high is only 2.4C
 
Noctua NT-H1 or AS5 which ever is cheaper at that time. i have the Arctic Ceramique 2 but i absolutely hate it. accidentally bought it at fry's because it was miss labeled as AS5.
 
As mentioned before, I am really intrigued by Indigo Xtreme.

It's a little pricey, but the results are very impressive.

I get the impression that it thermally may not be the best material, but the way it is applied as a thin sheet of material reflowed between the CPU and the cooler using CPU heat, leads to perfect applications every time, and because of this gives better results.

And that is precisely why it generally isn't worth spending a ton of cash on a fancy heatsink either. If the difference is less than 5 or 10 degrees, you won't get any practical benefit in terms of overclocking headroom or stability.

2.5C here, 2.5C there, eventually they add up to something.

I have personally been foiled in overclocks in the past because they were just a few degrees too hot.

Every little bit counts.

Sure, there are diminish returns as you get higher up the performance ladder, but that doesn't mean that they won't be worth it to some.
 
Gelid GC-2. Before that, I used Tuniq TX-2.

AS5 is fine and still works great, but there's definitely better products out there.
 
I was using Noctua but recently switched to IC Diamond and noticed a nice drop overall. Very happy with this stuff.
 
I have used a standard silicone thermal compound for years and never had the first problem, some of my systems were overclocked some not, but I never had a problem at all. I also had very decent temps.Granted I do not think a 1 degree drop warrents putting 20 dollars an ounce into a tim anyway 10 degrees maybe but it never seemed to make that much difference. Check out an older review on hardocp it tested about 20 different types including mine the standard silicone cheap stuff, they all worked the same.
