The Witcher

I got it on Steam. I was considering getting the boxed version, since there are so many bonuses included, but I opted for Steam anyway. I really only wanted the soundtrack, and that's a free download. The Steam version also apparently has the stories (except for the short story), albeit in digital form. Bought it before going to bed, and it was done downloading before I got home from work. It might have even been done before I went to work, but I didn't check.

I can confirm that the uncensored patch works for the Steam version. There are 2 uncensored patches going around. The official one increases the gore, and, I believe, restores the full dialog. The cards, however, remain censored (although I believe the developer is working with ESRB to get a full uncensored patch out.). The unofficial patch uncensors everything, including the cards. Most people will likely want the unofficial patch, unless you're worried that your wife/girlfriend will walk into the room at an inopportune time, and wonder what the hell you're playing,

tried that, dosent show up.

You're either blind, insane, in China with the Great Firewall, or all of the above.

Or maybe you should be excited because she might walk in and find the game intriguing at opportune times... mmm....

This game is so much better now with the Enhanced Edition patch. The conversations and storyline finally make sense! I only played to the 3rd chapter originally, but I didn't realise how much I was missing in the first couple chapters just due to the shitty translation. It also seems to run much better than before.

I'm not really having any problems getting immersed this time around.

Did they change the dialog in the swamp with Azar Javed and The Professor:

(I'm paraphrasing here)
"Quick, while the witcher is completely helpless and out cold... LET'S RUN AWAY!" instead of you know... killing him. Why would we want to do that, it would make the game much too short :p

Well I held off on the original game. This seems like the time to go head and order it.
I found the, The Witcher Enhanced Uncensored Edition(UK) on Amazon (Gogamer) for $59.90.

I can't wait to try it!'

I’m glad to hear that. I was fortunate enough to play the original Polish version of the game and the dialogs were absolutely hilarious. I was disappointed when I found out about them butchering the English version so much. I still think it took them way too long to fix that, but better late then never, I guess. Enjoy the game!

dosent show up. also, the rockstar games sale (the one on the front page) when i click it just shows me game trailers. Maybe since im in the Dominican Republic i cant see it?:(

is the US version the one with the titties or without? I need the version with titties and sex scenes.

I read that the dev may release a patch to 'uncensor' the US versions.

Hello,

I'm wondering whether or not to buy The Witcher and I want to ask if you think I should buy the Enhanced Edition instead of the regular game considering there is a $20 USD difference between them. Maybe I should just buy the normal version and download the extras?

Will be buying from the UK.

Buy the UK EE version, the patching was a headache for me since it will throw an error if any of the separate patch components has a CRC issue. I originally bought the UK Special Edition, so I'm still happy with having all of the extras though the EE does come with a few more things.

I get more and more involved in this game as it progresses longer...

I'm in the middle of Chapter 2, and it just gets bigger and bigger in scope. I'm loving it, really. I'm going to start over, though. I set it on EASY since I knew the EE would be coming out soon. Now that I've patched up to the EE, I've wanted to start over on HARD but I was looking for a stopping point. Its always "just one more quest, one more storyline" before I quit. Well, I had better quit soon or I'll finish this chapter! :)

So, I'm going to start over and see if I can be more successful with money mangement in the meantime. The smartest move I've ever made? Bought tons of flowers for cheap so I can... gift them to pretty ladies when the need arises.

The jump from easy to hard is quite a big one, on hard many fights in the game are not beatable without heavy use of alchemy/potions.
For me medium/normal difficulty was best, as I didn't want to be forced to rely on alchemy so much.

I'm very immersed in this game -- okay remember Chapter 1 when you bang the witch and kill the hound / village people (if you choose to) and go back to the inn to get Shani and enter the city?

Well, if you keep clicking on her while still in the inn, she'll say "Come" if you spam it... its "Come.. come.. come.. cum .. cum!"

My wife exclaimed "What are you playing??!"

God you are sick :)

Anyways why would anyone buy the enhanced edition. You can find a used copy of the original on amazon for like 15 bucks and then just download the patch.

HA! I love those easter eggs. Its what makes good games really great.

Funny. I would invest in some headphones :D

You get 2 sex cards from Shani if you play your cards right.

so like, in the uncessored version is there supose to be sex movies?

Like I blew shani's back out in the old lady's house, but there was no video..... I heard the uncensored version added videos?

I have a Question. Gogamer has the original UK UN censored version. Can use the EE patch from lets say fileplanet to update and get the best of both worlds?

Sweet, thats what I am going to do.

My copy is on its way. Should be here by Friday.

I like her second card much better than the first....of course, I have the UK edition so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. :D

I'm running the game on my laptop with only a few crashes so far usually after playing a few hours. The only major problem I'm having is that when in the inventory or when buying from characters and in the map, whenever I hover over the items or locations I have to wait upwards to a minute to see what the item or location is. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? I'm looking on the official forums right now but can't find anything.

How does the dice game work? Just for grins I played 30 matches at the highest betting level, won 5 of the 30 matches and only made it to the third round of betting in 3 of the 25 losses. I played Carmen, Thaler and Zoltan(?) ten times each (reloading from the same point before each game.)

It's good that they fixed the AI but it seems that they made it impossible to win at my level (in chapter 2) while betting the max. amount. Should I be sticking to the lower betting ranges or have I just had a run of incredibly bad luck? I had some unexpected quest expenses and I don't have any open quests that will pay money..

The EE doesn't like to have AF turned on. I crash every half hour or so if I turn it on. Seems to be an ongoing problem with the game for all patch levels.

[edit] I may be completely off my rocker but it seems like you can affect the dice rolls by clicking on them while they're in the air. lol if that's true.

I have a $3k gaming rig and it has lag spikes at the highest settings and x4 AA and x4 AF. I highly doubt that laptops can beat my rig. And if my rig isn't able to fully handle the game, then your laptop must be struggling. Check to make sure that your graphics settings aren't set so high. If it isn't your graphics, then I don't know. Another thing, the game doesn't crash at all for me, despite the lag, so something must be wrong on your side.

For the dice game, I just bet highest all the time and just keep saving and loading. Getting money is hard as hell. So I make sure I never lose money unnecessarily. I usually win about half the time, so you must have some bad bad luck. Get some better Juju. On a side note, I should check whether you can click on the dice as you roll. Never tried it. Thanks for the tip!

5 out of 30 ? damn.

You know its just like poker right ? You know that you can select the dice you want to replace before your second and third roll right ?

I played the dice game a lot to make cash, its mostly luck but I won maybe 60% of the time. If you don't think of it as cheating, quick save after a successful dice game, and quick load when you lose. Only bet the highest wagers, don't waste your time betting low.

Maybe I was just lucky but on my play through I won almost every match and had way more money than I knew what to do with. I thought it was rigged in favour of the player because I've never had such 'luck' in real life. :p

lol.. Yes, I know how the rules work. I'm talking getting outrolled consistently; I'm seeing the computer roll four-of-a-kind and full houses off a pair when I'm averaging three-of-a-kind if I'm lucky. It normally won two in a row so we didn't hit the third round of betting. I didn't do any random rolls or not try to improve my first roll.

*shrug* Maybe my luck simply sucks; I always tend to do poorly at pure chance games and very well at skill games (except for poker because I can't read people worth a damn.)

I still think it reacts to mouse clicks but my PC is so slow I got tired of reloading just to figure out a minigame. Maybe later, football's on now. :D

Re-resurrecting this thread.

I finally gave the game a go, bad idea. I'm completely addicted.

Am I really missing that much with the censored version? I got it free with a newegg promo, and half tempted to buy the UK EE, just to support the dev's because I feel like I stole the game lol.

You're not missing so much that you need to buy a game that is so much more expensive. You can get alot of the uncensored materials (including dialogue lost in translation, but the 'patch' doesn't have 100% everything uncensored) from the main The Witcher Forums. The link to the thread with the uncensored material is posted a few pages back or so, I believe.

Thanks! Its not really that I'm missing the uncensored material, but the fact that I didn't pay for the game that gets me. I believe in supporting great games like these, that nearly warrant the $55 for the boxed UK EE version. (Coming from the guy that owns CoD4 on PC, 360 and PS3)

I originally bought the US original & then when with the UK Collector's Edition. Now that the UK EE has almost everything that I have now for less is a bit disappointing. I'd say go with the UK EE if you really want to since you're getting the real game instead of a US nanny-society-safe version.

If the only thing that is censored is the female cards you have the best version really...

Yeah, there's this one ho who walks around buck-ass naked like it's something to do.

And the game does seem awfully bloody in the UK version... I like it.

I'm somewhere in Chapter 3 right now and this game is just fucking incredible. Yeah, there's some niggling polish issues, but apart from that, it's insanely fun and is really what stuff like Oblivion should've been. This is an adventure, not a broke-ass combat simulator with some stats thrown in.
