The Order: 1886

Yes Uncharted, the interactive movie game. I beat all three of them and they are decent games, but very overrated like most of Naughty Dog games.

As to TLOU I never said the game was bad, just the gameplay and combat -- and it is terrible. That said it's not surprising that many here have went through the game several times -- as this is a gaming forum-- but none, not one of my friends who played TLOU ever finished it. Most casual "gamers" that I know found the game boring.

So yes, I would consider any that play a single section of the game over 15-20 times, outliers.

Your friends are outliers and like you said are "casual". Define casual the ones that play mobile games and can barely keep their attention on things and get bored of things that take longer than 5-10 mins to play?

All my friends who owned 360, enjoyed TLOU so much that they converted over to play other ps3 exclusives.

See how ridiculous that sounds? The majority has spoken and it deserves the awards its gotten.

Casuals are not outliers, they are the majority. Is this not the console forum?

So consoles mean casual now? So I guess your definition of casual paints quite the broad stroke.

And you and your friends have different taste than the majority don't you get it? "Most" people recognize good games when they see it. And TLOU is well deserving of its accolades.

I would really like to see what you consider GOTY material to win 200 awards or whatever crazy amount tlou has gotten and I hope to god you don't say something like Dark Souls.

Funny how everyone hates MSM until it agrees with their POV.
200 awards doesn't mean anything. Destiny has around the same, if you take Activision's criteria on what an award is, and look at that mess.

Everyone I talk to loves TLOU for the story and presentation, but I cant get a single person to tell me about its gameplay. Which is a copy of every ND game and nothing new, and quite honestly boring, especially the sneaking around/cover aspect, that is inferior to a cheap game like MGS:Ground Zeroes.

But why the hell are we talking about this in an Order:1886 thread?

Yes but destiny isn't GOTY material. And who brought other games up in the first place? Oh right.

TLOU actually did win accolades by many, and yes it matters more than the awards "Destiny" apparently won.

Don't try to white knight each other. The vendetta is real. Doing a prelim search I don't see Destiny with the same amount of awards, maybe E3 (laff) but not published awards. Ah well doesn't matter like you said, agree to disagree on what is deemed a "good" game. I'm not here to change your opinion.

On topic: I'm reselling my copy right away for profit lol.

Anecdotal =/= majority rule.

Destiny won awards prior to being released and afterwards has been harshly criticized and it's reviews were not anywhere near as good (professional or users).

It won some awards, sure. But this is not a discussion on why Call of Duty is casual because it sells huge numbers.

All of my friends played it and beat it.

They play sports games..... They are the yearly NBA and Madden people who never buy anything else yet they loved it.

Everyone has opinions but it wouldn't have done as well as it did if the gameplay was garbage.

Well i'll go head and say i thought the stealth gameplay was great and the combat was hard hitting most games do not pull off both well at all. Did it play anything like uncharted? Uncharted is mostly a string of set pieces while had more open levels and vastly different ai.

The soft cover system in tlou is way better then the one in gz. Half the times you use the cover button the transition would make you visible to a guard in gz.

I don't care how many awards tlou got honestly, what I don't understand is why everyone makes it into a bad game because it does have so much recognition for its story.

I think the order could very well be the game that people falsely accused tlou of being, a cinematic with experience with little and unnoteworthy gameplay.

There is no cover button in GZ. Have you played GZ?
Its done better in GZ, so much so I quit TLOU a few times cause it made me go play GZ instead because of frustration.

Isn't this out in 2 days?

The thing is, GZ should have been an addition to the actual game. So when you say its a cheapo game, its technically the exact same engine and what not of Phantom Pain.

GZ would have been a fantastic "intro" to Phantom Pain but as a standalone I beat it in under 30 minutes haha.

Well we're not debating game length now, are we?
at least that would be on topic....

But that is exactly why I call it a "cheapo" game. And I got it for $10 on release. GZ has always been budget priced.

Wasn't it $40 at release? Source: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/metal-gear-solid-5-ground-zeroes-gets-price-drop-on-ps4-xbox-one/1100-6417950/

The thread was de-railed long before by others mentioning things that shouldn't be in this thread.

You're comparing mechanics of a game. GZ is technically Phantom Pain (a snippet of it) which is a AAA game in and of itself so monetary values has NOTHING to do with the comparison.

Even at $10 GZ is not worth it.

Moot point, because...

Exactly.
Even at $10 GZ is not worth it.
Subjective claim, when I say the same about TLOU. I traded that in for Destiny. (Lets not go there...)
BTW, GZ was $30 at release. They dropped it to 30 before it came out, and there were discounts everywhere if you looked. Hence, $10.

Exactly. So why bring up "cheap game" GZ when its based off a AAA game which yes has always had pretty good mechanics to begin with?

Nobody is disputing MGS mechanics, but your focal point was that a cheap game like GZ handled better and putting it all out of context.

I personally found TLOU handling very well as I am proficient in all games I play.

yourgrandma was, but we found out he's never played GZ, so I wasted my post.
Forget I said "cheap" anything. It has nothing to do with my point, other than its a low priced title you can get now for $10(probably). It's all about gameplay mechanics, because when I play a game, thats what matters more than anything. Story and presentation should always be 2nd, not 1st. These cinematic games that ND only does, I'm just not a fan of, cause the gameplay is always done better elsewhere. I shouldn't have gone back to GZ every time I played TLOU, simply because GZ is a better game. But that is what happened. And its not like "movie-like games" are wasted on me, what is MGS?

So, The Order. Another movie-like... Not many impressions out yet. Isn't this out in 2 days?

MGS = Metal Gear Solid. I love the series but that series is also VERY VERY much like a movie first game second nowadays. In fact I would say MGS is just as much of an offender in that category, but they still have pretty awesome mechanics although sometimes a bit rough around the edges. Solid cinematics though, haha.

I have the order 1886 on pre order, but I am probably just flipping it right away since I got it for <$40. It will be bargain bin soon enough seeing as how its just a single player game.

Reading through this thread it's apparent that console dinks will never learn.

Interview with the lead Order 1886 developer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV-u5tvQC34

Sadly, my PC's that I own are more in the PC Master Race category of all PC's. Yet I still enjoy console games because I like to enjoy every game possible that is not just for the PC.

However, Order 1886 seems to be quite the disappointment.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner, folks.

lol
When I said "And its not like "movie-like games" are wasted on me, what is MGS?", it meant I obviously play movie-likes, since I play MGS. Not, "What is MGS?" I obviously know WHAT it is.... I'm making reference that both games are in the same style, and I like one, but not the other.

Why even order the game if you're not interested? Just wait till it's bargain bin. I'm sure theres a backlog calling your name in the meantime...

I ordered it BECAUSE I was interested. But hearing how short it is. I rather wait for it to hit bargain bin. I bought it also because it was <$40 at the time.

You can stop with the condescending tone though.

We are all adults here making their paper (I hope).

I did actually about 23 hours of play and S ranked all the missions.

Turns out you're were completely right that it does use the softcover system though i could have sworn you had to press a button to transition to cover. The problem i had is that your head would stick out on some of the cover when transitioning and you could be spotted on the hard difficulty at times.

I'm not the only one to complain about that, i hope they it fix for tpp.

Nothing was meant to be condescending, if I came off that way, I apologize.

This game is getting worse by the minute...

The Internet is the new playground for bullies," according to The Order: 1886 creator Ready at Dawn. In a new interview, the studio talks about the hate-filled nature of the Internet and again speaks out to discuss the ongoing controversy surrounding the length of the upcoming PlayStation 4 game.
So the developer is crying about the people crying about the length of the game... This will end well...

He shouldn't have made the steak analogy.
And they still didn't answer how long the game is... EDIT: No wait, he actually does state it. 8-10 hours he says. hmmm
Still don't know about this one. Still waiting on Bloodborne...

They seem to be on full defensive. That's not good news at all.
Yeah. Review embargo, rumors about length, devs on the defensive, a certain video game forum whose name ends in GAF going full damage control, talk of bullies, haterade and cinematic experiences. This is not looking good.

I'm very eager to see what the reality will be.

Yeah read some GAF and people who "played" it are saying around 8-10 hours. This game probably takes like 15 hours tops to plat if someone wanted.

It's certainly disheartening to read this stuff and then read how short it is and how mediocre overall it can be...

"...it promises you exciting encounters with snarling werewolves, it promises you clever weaponry the likes of which you rarely see in video games. It dangles these hopes in front of you and then yanks them away, reneging on one promise after another, letting you hold that precious toy in your hand and then denying you the chance to maintain the thrill."

"That this third-person action game turns a parade of steampunk imagery and Arthurian legends into a dull stew of modern games' most tiresome cliches is quite a feat, though hardly one worth celebrating. It is (as you probably guessed) 1886, and you are Grayson, otherwise known as Galahad, one of the Knights of the Round Table. It is a time of trouble: common citizens have begun to rebel against the gentry, possibly allying with a race of werewolves the game alternately refers to as lycans and half-breeds. It's a brilliant setup, ripe with possibilities. You look to the sky and see zeppelins hovering overhead; you look to the armory, and you find a young Nikola Tesla ready to introduce you to clever armaments. That such a world could be so lifeless is unfathomable."

"It's difficult to overlook The Order's tonally consistent aesthetics, however: It is fully committed to its style. From a bridge's vantage point, you wield an electrically charged cannon while gazing upon a smoky Victorian London. The bridge is dotted with iron carriages, some still sturdy, and some ravaged by the ongoing firefight. Rococo flourishes adorn the Knights' chamber: walls decorated with gold leaf, floors embellished with Latin script, flickering candles embedded within serpentine sconces. The Knights' weathered faces aren't quite beautiful, but they are remarkably human; Each of the Lord Chancellor's grimaces and squints betray a soul-crushing history you wish you could have partaken in."

" The game is at its best when it allows itself to be a shooter, which is what makes its failings all the more disheartening. The thermite rifle is one of the most interesting weapons in recent memory, letting you fire a round of magnesium ammo and then ignite it with a rush of air. What a blast it is to mess with such a unique firearm--and what a heartbreaker to have such grossly limited use of it. The same is true of the previously mentioned cannon: It is ripped from your hands all too quickly and replaced with less-interesting pistols and carbine rifles."

Yea this game is getting slaughtered lol, still holding out for user reviews but I definitely will not pick it up at 60 bucks. 20 probably and only after some fairly descent user comments at least.

I had this pre ordered since 2013, but.. even I'm expecting reviews around the 6-7/10 mark. I'm hoping people who get to play it peg it higher and say it is a great game though.

Quoting what I said earlier. I was pretty close! 66% on metacritic right now :p

This game really could have and should have been awesome. This is a damned shame.

It isn't just "whiner and hater" type talking points from "the usual suspects" stuff, either. The consensus far and away is: Letdown.

I get that this is RADs first console IP (not sure if it's the first one period), so hopefully with the base they have they can create a good sequel. They have talent in the graphics department and it looks like too much emphasis was in the graphics and cinematic bs. With that down if their next title sucks I think we can call it for what it is.

They need MP and more emphasis in replayability.

Disappointing to be sure.

Just picked us Diablo 3 on the PS4 to play for a while until Bloodborne comes out. Had high hopes for this, just looks like mediocrity now. I wasn't worried about it until the developer started getting defensive about it, that is rarely a good sign :(

Story of all Sony's exclusive (lots of them). Guerilla Games needs to go DIAF. I've been vocal about how terrible they are at making a competent shooter and how their games always control like garbage. They always go for eye candy and just ruin the rest of their games.

God of War is also a very tired franchise imo. How many times does a guy have to start off over powered just to lose his powers and you have to go and regain them again? And for some reason his powers from before he became a god was more OP than when he DID become a god (games that are supposed to be happening after Ascension)?

Not enough times yet! I would totally dig a new GoW game on the PS4. What you are saying is like someone saying "Legend of Zelda games? Who plays that crap, the Princess keeps getting nabbed and it's just another boy growing up in a small town/fishing village/island who needs to rescue her" :p
