The lack of a thread for this so close to its release is probably going to answer my question fro me but here goes:

Who is interested in this?

I am but I have some points of potential concern and hesitation:

A February release with little marketing from Sony when they and MS both need to tout any new game for their new consoles during the "first year dearth" as much as they can, QTE's, certain statements from the developers about wanting a "cinematic experience" (this can mean any number of things good or bad) and then I see film grain (subjective) and deliberate 30 fps which I'm not really thrilled about.

I was excited about it but then I realized it's just a excuse to give my poor PS4 collection
( 2 whole games) another game.
I'm holding out for Bloodborne then going to play Evolve next week.

I'm starting to see why people call the PC the Master Race =) It's true for the most part the problem being you need a PS4 to get those exclusives yet =)

I swear I did a search. No clue why those didn't come up. Sorry!

That's what I've done for years. PC main and Playstation for "anything I will never see on the PC."

I was fairly critical of it at firstike everyone else but recent gameplay trailers have me intrigued. I am still not buying it day one but will look at reviews and see how the Internet reacts.

It is an over hyped game, and I think Sony has realized this :)

Waiting on reviews. If it gets high marks i definitely want to play it, but not making anymore day one mistakes.

From the trailers it looks fun. Interested in the story line as well.

Just posted this in another thread. I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm not expecting anything innovative or different. I just want a typical cover-based shooter with good story and cutscenes. Seems like that's exactly what this game is.

Basically this game is Steampunk 1800s but It doesn't look any better than Dishonored.

I had this pre ordered since 2013, but.. even I'm expecting reviews around the 6-7/10 mark. I'm hoping people who get to play it peg it higher and say it is a great game though.

Day One for me. I'm not expecting an amazing instant classic, but it has some potential given its plot and theme. I've mostly been playing Destiny, so this game will keep me busy waiting for weekly resets once I have everything done.

Day one also.

I bought a ps4 purely for exclusives like this. They are a different class of game, usually. Most of the games I actually complete are like this.

The next one on the horizon is uncharted 4, I believe. Uncharted 1/2/3, tlou, are my favorite games of all time.

I've been playing Dying Light quite a bit and I'm pretty confident it will hold me over for a little while so I will wait for reviews. My enthusiasm was sorely tempered when they revealed a lack of multiplayer. This looked like a game tailor made for MP. But we'll see. Could still be a great game.

Tru dat.
Have you played TLOU remastered on PS4?
Closest thing to UC until UC4.

The best thing coming out of this likely is Jason Graves' symphonic score.

Only 5 hours long? Isn't this a single-player only game too and a very linear story focused one?

Well if htat's the case this definitely just dropped from my "buy" to "rent" queue now.

That's ridiculous if the game itself is only 5hrs long including a 2.5hrs of cutscene which you cannot skip. If that's really true, then my interest has gone from 90% to 0%. /sigh

From the article..."The footage totals roughly five hours of playtime, including both gameplay and cutscenes. The time devoted to cutscenes appears to be roughly half of that playtime, and the cutscenes are reported to be unskippable.."

So its only 2.5hrs of actual gameplay? Ouch. Looks pretty though.
So they were more interested in making a movie...

Kinda surprised it is so short - usually I'd expect some sort of multiplayer mode tacked on to the game if the single player was short. I don't remember how long it took the wife and me to finish Gears of War - I don't think it was overly long, but we did replay it on harder difficulties.

Still, wasn't overly interested in this game in the first place and this new information makes the game definitely a rental (or a future PSN flash sale purchase if it comes down enough).

I think the first Gears of War was only 4-6 hours depending on difficulty and coop. The difference though is that game wasn't padded out with any bullshit, with all that time spent on actually playing the game.

Haha I had a feeling this would happen. Well, time to re sell my early copy to a sucker for more than I paid for it :p

The guy who beat it in 5.5 hours played on easy pretty much rushing through. Other people have said it's closer to 8-9 hours. But they didn't post video so that's unverified.

This game is a train wreck, half the game is cutscenes and QTEs. Looks pretty for what the PS4 hardware can do but that's about it. Plus it has black bars on the top and bottom, maybe the hardware couldn't hold 30fps at full screen so they had to crop it.

Naughty Dog does the same thing, yet they don't get shit on. TLOU is 10hrs with garbage combat and gameplay. Yet is considered the second coming....cause ND.

This game on the other hand looks like a rental at best.

Was really considering getting another PS4 for this and Bloodborne. Guess I will until the end of the year.

You can't please everybody. I found the combat in TLOU (at least against human survivors) absolutely enthralling and often would replay a section 10 or 15 times because it was such a blast seeing how it'd play out differently every time.

No one should be surprised by this games disappointment you could it coming a mile away. They should have made branching story or something if your going to spend that much time in not so interactive cutscenes for this game.

Tlou was like 15 hours and had a good amount of gameplay and multiplayer. I find it odd how Tlou gets more shit then something like spec ops the line which was shorter with very mundane gameplay in comparison.

Not everybody is disappointed. The more I hear about it the more I confirm that it's exactly the kind of game I was hoping for. A linear theatrical experience.

You are obviously an outlier. TLOU has serviceable gameplay and combat just like the entire Uncharted series.

I hope he wasn't a outlier as i did the same, if you didn't missed out. It was fun to see how the AI would handle the different situations as it's mix of combat/stealth gameplay was much improved over the uncharted series.

I must be an outlier as well. Just because a game doesn't suit your tastes doesn't make everyone who likes it an outlier. It won many awards for good reason.

Just like Uncharted? I'd be willing to argue that with the gameplay differences throughout. Like a poster said earlier, you are the outlier. The game was GOAT for many many people and won more awards then 99% of all games out right now.

Yes Uncharted, the interactive movie game. I beat all three of them and they are decent games, but very overrated like most of Naughty Dog games.

As to TLOU I never said the game was bad, just the gameplay and combat -- and it is terrible. That said it's not surprising that many here have went through the game several times -- as this is a gaming forum-- but none, not one of my friends who played TLOU ever finished it. Most casual "gamers" that I know found the game boring.

So yes, I would consider any that play a single section of the game over 15-20 times, outliers.

This is the perfect type of game for me. Beautiful, short, 3rd person, and story driven.

And I play way different than the YouTuber, who blows through it as fast as possible. I enjoy game environment and what they can achieve. He was trying to get it online asap.

He didn't blow through it as fast as possible, in fact he gets 'lost' and dies quite a bit. Did you even watch it? He does skip picking up/reading the collectables, yes.

This video, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV-u5tvQC34
