Looks like 1.9 might/will require another regen to get in on the new goods. Thoughts? Maybe set a limit on area for now - basically try to keep the map small - set boundaries or something, and then let folks explore farther out once 1.9 hits?

well... screw it, we might as well wait until either 1.9 or the final release.

At this point the final MC release is what, only 2 months away anyways, right?

"Final" isn't really final though either. If we're waiting for them to stop making terrain changes, we'll be waiting forever. Changes from 1.8 to 1.9 will probably be fairly minor compared to 1.8 anyway. But limiting the size of our 1.8 world/expansion somewhat in order to save room for 1.9 is probably a good idea regardless.

Yeah, I really would like to keep what we have.

Those of you who have been down in my mine really know I put a lot of work into that place.

My home may not be much, but my mine is a god damn masterpiece.

Yea, while I am excited for 1.8, not sure if a new world is worth it. Maybe set it up when the time comes so we can play around in it, but if it strains the server too much, we can close it down.

The server has been cranky today. Keep getting disconnected. OH well, I probably should get to bed early tonight anyway.

Same here, I was just getting ready to start building, but keep getting disconnected every few seconds.

Right, but I think the main reason for expanding the map(or getting a second map) for 1.8 was that they were adding and changing a lot of things. I think it'll be easier to make a decision about when to expand the map based on what we know is coming in 1.8 and what's being held until 1.9. Right now, does anyone know for sure? It doesn't even sound like Mojang knows.

I've been talking to G1. I've got a 50/50 connection and better hardware. I'm waiting until I upgrade the OS but I maybe taking over hosting so the lag thing may be lessened soon.

You have any specific feature questions?
From what I recall, here are the basics:

New biome generation code (bigger biomes, etc)
Ocean Biome
Rivers
Volcanoes
Swamps
Mountain Biome
Those giant mushroom things (not sure if this counts as a biome)
NPC Towns (empty, ATM)
Strongholds
Ravines
Abandoned Mines
New combat / experience system
Several new craftable items
Stackable food
Several new farming items/crops (melon / pumpkin seeds/harvesting, etc)
New Creative mode
Other stuff :)p)

For 1.9 they're going to add:
NPCs into the villages (supposed to appear in 1.8 villages appropriately)
Nether "stuff" (to make it more interesting)
Animal breeding (I think - was talked about for 1.8 proper as well, but I don't think it made it)
Something for experience to do
Stronghold bosses
Other stuff

There is a more detailed list of expected features and whatnot here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features

But what about when the cops shut down the oldie pron server in the same building

I honestly don't notice much of any lag on G1's server, but when it DOES occur, it happens in spikes and ALL players online say something about it, often simultaneously.

If that does end up happening G1 will still be the admin and have access to active files and backup. I'd just be the whore he parks his junk in. :)

You're making me really, really, really, interested in what's in your past . . . . .

I meant that tounge in cheek . . .

This, exactly.

BTW, we've been seeing 10+ people online lately and I think that its probably limited bandwidth causing issues as it lags pretty good about that time.

When the server is not being cranky and less than that many online, it's usually fast and awesome.

This. When im online, theres usually, at most 5-7 people on, and the lag is pretty nominal. When I was on and we had 11 on, we hit some lag. So it might be a bottleneck, but I still cant see this as being a major reason.

Who built the 1 tile wide cobble skyway going from near rmdash's place over to illustrial's place? It's rather an eyesore.

I love Minecraft, I really do, but untill the server gets stable again, I think I'm gonna take a break.

Anyone think they can give me a hand in getting started? Like a stone pick axe and what not? I don't need much, but I have nothing and wondering around with nothing finding an area I can build in got me kill a lot. My in game is precis1oN. :p I am still some what new to MC too. I know the basics, but not all of the little tricks.

Its not the server, its my isp being a douche, I call they deny responsibility. That's why I want to move the server.

Whats the bandwidth draw per month and your current connection stats? Cogeco just upped mine to 2mb upload so I could consider doing it.

I think Oldie is gonna host with his 50/50 connection. That would take care of that :)

That would be absolutely fantastic if Oldie were to host the server.

Also, have we decided what we're going to do with the map once 1.8 rolls around?

Remote administration adds some potential problems that wouldn't happen if you have direct access to the server. I say try and work things out with your ISP and move it as a last resort. Tell them you're not going to pay them if they don't send someone out to take care of the problem. That almost always works. We rarely ever have enough people on to max out your upload speed, so if the connection stopped being flaky, we really wouldn't have a problem... unless 1.8 brings a spike of users.
