Oh MY!!!! Its full of Stars!!!!

I was reading more (as I do when not playing the game) and read that you can scan planets to find hidden "things". I gave it a try, but I didnt find anything. So, it being late and having to get up early for work, I didnt do any missions but simply just zoomed across space here and there, looking at different planets and moons. What a great game this is, it just makes you stop and think about the RL universe and how HUGE it really is and then a thought popped into my head.

Stars.....I always wanted to see what a star would look like up close and then, I thought, Hmmm, I wonder if I can warp to any of the stars in the game?

HOLY SHIT!!!!! What a spectacular sight it was when I discovered that I could indeed warp to a star in the game. I thought the stars looked cool enough just warping by them....up close, its a whole different picture. Id have to say, it pretty much looks just like what I had always thought it might look like. HUGE, BRIGHT ball of flames.

This game is BADASS!!!!

Oh, and Tytalus....Dont forget about meeeeee :)

Well I've given away about 50 million ISK so far, and put most of my non-Jita assets up for sale. YAY!

Cool, cool...So, do you plan on staying to play for awhile? If so, whats your ingame name?

I havent made it to Jita yet. Dont even know where its at, but I know its a major trading hub though, something like 1 jump away from 4 different regions. As soon as I figure out how to work the buy/sell/trading portion of the game better, I figured Jita wouldnt be a good place for me to be at, esp. since im still only in a crusier.

You got any tips for a 3 month old Eve'er?

Well, unless someone has a link to the 5-day reactivation (or even a 24-hour reactivation) it doesn't appear I'll be logging in to EVE anytime soon. I deleted my link a few days ago thinking I'd have no use for it. Oh well!

EDIT:

Character: Tytalus Warden
Wallet: 1,747,817,877.97 ISK
Skillpoints: 21,125,481

Woot, looks like I did save the link. :) I'll see if I can get it installed tonight and log on for a bit. Who should I be sending messages to? I'm going to put all of my ships on contract as well so people might get some of those. For those of you who are expecting money/advice/whatever, what system(s) are you in or near? I'm only familiar with Caldari space and a little of Amarr space so if it's exotic you'll have to let me know where you are at!

pm'ed (caldari myself)

Tytalus i would be extremely greatful for a small hand out have been playing for a month now and just starting to make headway but would love a little bump to allow me to get some decent implants / the covetor i should be using by the end of next week

I gave out some tips last night and I think I sent you some cash. I was going to see if those folks who I gave money to were online and I'd pilot a small ship to help out on a few missions for old times' sake but sadly nobody was on or in Caldari space. I ended up chatting with the old [H]Corp folks for a while and found out they're having a lot of fun fighting Goonswarm. Apparently it's a costly battle, but a good one!

I won't be playing again--I might jump on for an hour or two this evening to hand out any profits I've made from contracting all of my ships below market value... should be another 130 million or so ISK to give away. That'll leave me with about 1.65 billion ISK in case I ever feel like joining again... unless I decide to give away about 100 million more "just because". Even at 1.5 billion ISK I can afford any ship I am capable of piloting several times over, and with the availability for me to rejoin old corporations that occupy large tracts of 0.0 space I could get an Officer spawn after a few weeks and make a ton more cash. :)

I'll log on tonight and toss you some cash. You shouldn't be buying anything better than +1 implants until you are capable of doing Level 3 missions without dying. The ideal situation is to be able to fully equip and pilot a Battlecruiser. That includes (for Caldari) full missile operations skills and full shield tanking skills, plus high Engineering and Mechanic skill to bump up your equipment capabilities. +1's are dirt cheap and provide a nice benefit (about 100SP / hour) so that improvement alone should make you quite happy. :)

lol noone did much talking in this thread till somone said something about handouts.

Eh, I'm ok with that. When being generous all the folks pop out of the woodwork. :) I'm not giving away cash to people who've been playing longer than 6 months or so (unless it's someone I have piloted with in the past.) The newbies get a small cash bump to assist them with financing that "next step" (whatever it might be.) For some it'll be purchasing more 3x Learning books, for others it'll be buying a Cruiser with full fittings. I do hope the cash helps out!

I thought I sent you 10M ISK? Should be more than enough to afford a Caracal (I don't remember these being more than about 4.5M ISK) and full fittings (less than 1M if you buy decent stuff, less than 200K if you buy low-end stuff.)

This is right about where I am at, First 3-4 days of playing I had more money than I could handle, now im in a cruiser, and starting to buy my secondary learning skill books, 4.5 mil is a bit steep for me since I am still only doing level 2 missions.... but hey I am only limited by my standing withing my target corp ATM, so ISK isnt a big deal to me right now.

Eh, I wouldn't say you are ONLY limited by the standing in your target corporation. Unless you can fully fit a Battlecruiser you won't survive Level 3 missions, so even if you got your standing above... I think it's 4.0 or 4.5 when the first Level 3 mission agents become available... I wouldn't recommend you try Level 3's.

There used to be a great set of systems I used for Level 3 missions that was in 0.5 space and had a few 0.5/0.6 systems all around it as a buffer. The rewards from those missions far exceeded the rewards I got from the missions I did in 0.8+ space (by hundreds of thousands of ISK in many cases.) If anyone's working Caldari Navy and ready for Level 3's let me know and I'll see if I can locate the system(s) of interest!

Hi Tytalus -- Tyymm here -- Remember me? I quit a while back, started back up again, and now haven't played in 3 weeks. I'm doing my best to stay away, lest I get addicted again :). Just popping in to say hello.

Heh, I think I still had you in my addressbook when I was diving through it last night. Good to hear you're trying to kick your addiction! :)

If you find yourself not playing after a week or two, that's usually a good indicator that it wasn't meant to be. Maybe a different game or game style might suit you better? :) I'm all for gaming so I'm under the belief that there's a "right game" or "right game genre" for everyone, it's just a matter of finding it.

For my Mom it's puzzle games and "find the item" games (i.e. iSpy). For my Dad it's quick thrills (usually flash games.) For me it's varied... RTS sometimes, RPG's quite often [usually MMO's] and the occasional FPS.

Good luck!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I very much enjoyed the game -- I went to Florida for a week on vacation, and came back. It was just long enough to break my addiction, and if I logged in again I'd be right back on the habit. So I kinda forced myself to stay away, cause I'd rather not be addicted.

Ohhh common now Mr. Direwolf20...You know you want to log back in. Addiction aint so bad, esp. if its EVE your addicted to, right :):)

Well I got a bunch of ISK sent out to the masses. I think tonight is my last night available to log on so if anyone has anything in particular they wanted to make in terms of requests I'd have to know about it "soon". Hopefully there was sufficient funds for everyone to buy something nice for themselves!

EDIT: Oh, and SAW, I tried communicating with one of your buddies and he still had his CSPA charge enabled, so it cost me to chat with him and then he immediately closed the window. That kinda' sucked. You should open up your mail tab, right-click the "Inbox" tab and disable CSPA charging so people don't have to pay to contact you!

I'm sure someone's told you before... but getting the Rank 3's up to Level 5 is incredibly wasteful unless you intend to play for more than about 3 1/4 years. Each one wastes about 8 months of time to fully recoop the loss, moreso if you only do one or two of them and continue to train skills that don't receive a benefit from one of those two attributes buffed by the training. (i.e. train Clarity up to 5, but then only train things that don't use Perception as an attribute.)

I do recommend getting Rank 3 Learning skills up to Level 4, however. The recoop time is far, far less (about 8 months for the entire bunch, rather than 40 months for the Level 5 training.)

I'm looking for some advice here, hopefully I can explain this well.

I'm Caldari with about 4.6 million points, in an NPC corp (Caldari Provisions), and for the last few months I've just been idling and letting my skills grow. From 2 million points to current I haven't done a single mission or anything.

I can run a cruiser, currently I'm in a cormorant and my skills follow

Ok, so here is what I would like to know. Right now I'm finding the game very dull, I'm still on level 2 missions and I'm pretty tired of grinding to get up to the next level...my best Lv2 guy is at around 4 standing. I want to join a corp that can teach me some stuff as well as do all the fun stuff I hear so much about, mainly going around in gangs and doing PvP stuff in null sec. I joined the hard forums group but I never really got anywhere, maybe because I didn't know what to ask but I didn't get much help.

I've read Caldari aren't the best for PvP, but I dont want to roll another character and I honestly think I can be of use to a corp, somewhere. Can anyone help me find some fun in the game, and suggest ways to make my char more "marketable" to be useful in a PvP corp?
Right now I'm based in .5 sec Osio right now, about 9 jumps from Jita.

What you're missing is the ability to pilot a small craft well. If you want to have fun "sooner" then you want to be able to pilot small ships well enough that you can tackle stuff so bigger ships can swoop in for the kill. The ideal scenario is to get one of the Frigate skills up to 5. From there you want to get one of the "side" skills (i.e. Interceptors) and get that up to 3 or 4, which will give you the ability to pilot an Interceptor of the appropriate faction (that you leveled to 5.) THIS is where things start to get interesting (at least for me it did!)

I leveled up Amar Cruiser to 5 then trained to get Logistics skill and got that up to 5. From there I was able to pilot a Guardian, which is a pretty awesome repair ship for large fleet combats. I had one smaller skirmish I was in where it was me and another guy in a Guardian, and we kept about 10 ships alive while we owned a group of nearly 20 people. The loot was fantastic and everyone survived, which is always the best way a fight can go!

I'd recommend looking in to EWar if you want to stick with Caldari. You can get a Falcon, Rook or Basilisk if you put a few months of training in to it (all T2 Cruisers) and go EWar. It's horrible for PvE but fantastic for PvP. If someone can't target you they can't do anything useful to you. :) I'd look up these ships and see if this is something you think would be interesting to pursue. If you want to get in to huge fleet combat most of the fleets I've been in are armor tanking fleets, not shield tanking... so yes, Caldari wouldn't be ideal. In this case you'd likely want to start training your Amarr skill up until you can use Amarr Battleships. The benefit of this is that once you can armor tank pretty good you'll be fantastic on L4 missions AND be able to outfit a ship well enough to tank during PvP combat.

Can anyone help me find some fun in the game, and suggest ways to make my char more "marketable" to be useful in a PvP corp?

Character skill is only half the equation. Pilots who can communicate effectively on voice comms, understand their role in the fleet, and are able to interpret fleet commander orders or take initiative based on the situation (i.e. doing that the FC means, not just literally what he says) are much more valuable than someone who ebayed an account with 50 million SP but no idea how to use them.

All these skills can only be acquired through practical PvP experience. I recommend joining a factional warfare corp to start getting that experience... they are usually open to newbies and many are actually training corps for 0.0 PvP corps. You can get in fights immediately flying T1 frigates and destroyers, no need for fancy/expensive T2 ships. Just be prepared to die, a lot.

This game is only "dull" if you want it to be. I believe that the problem that your having is that your wanting more "action", log in, start shooting type of thing.

The problem that I can see happening with you is that you CAN totally do this, even at your current level/skill set, but you just arent doing it. You are relying on a Corp. to "tell" you what to do and how to do it as opposed to thinking that you can do whatever you want in the game, even being a newb.

With your current skills, there is no reason why you cant go out and have some fun on your own merit. Find a decent station which has alot of traffic. Look at the agents there available to you. See what they are offering, go to those places, bookmark them. Fit out your ship with the highest form of weapons you can afford to buy, go to those bookmarks and set up a trap. If your in a decently populated area, your going to see some others running those missions too. Start a fight with them when they come outta warp. Be a Pirate. Its a totally legit thing to do in the game and its fun too.

Also, have you tried any Exploration sites? That in itself is a challenge and you just never know what your going to find.

If you want some action, go make the action yourself. This game is sooo open ended, I find it hard to believe it can be dull. Like I said, its only dull if you want it to be dull.

Can I do this in .5 sec space without concord getting on my ass? Would a stasis webifier or warp jammer be a requirement? Thanks to you and others for helping. I'm looking for some corps that do war decs or factions but in my current location they all appear to be russian or something....very strange. Guess I gotta head back to a more populated area.

You can do ANYTHING in any sector. I read somewhere, perhaps here or in the "guides" section of the EVE site....that Concord is very much like the police in RL. They will respond to a crime, but more times than not, they get there too late to really do anything about it.

What im basically saying there is....unless your attacking someone right infront of Concord, i.e. they are in the same view screen your looking at...then you have TIME to attack and flee before Concord shows up. In RL, when someone calls the cops because someone has attacked them or stole from them, they are calling in the "past tense". The crime has already been committed. Same thing here. If your good at it, you can "POP" someone, take their stuff and warp out before the "cops" show up. You will be tagged though, so if you go near a jumpgate where there is Concord present, you will be shot on site. So, it takes a bit of forethinking, which in turn, adds to the suspense of being a Pirate.

I dont think a warp jammer or Webbifier is a "requirement" but they would definately help...After all, you dont want your prey to run off into the bushes now do ya? But you dont "NEED" it to do this stuff, No.

EVE is a HUGE "space". There is always another place to be if one area turns gloom. Pick up and move to a new area. The different sites and area will make for a new game of sorts....

Sorta SAW. You can kill people in hisec if you can kill them fast enough, but Concord will kill you no matter what. There's no way to escape it.

Back in the day, you could escape Concord, but a GM would just kill you since it was considered an exploit.

And if you want to actually kill someone, you'll need a disruptor or scram, unless you can 1 volley them or they're not paying attention.

For this you'd definitely need a warp scram, and the ability to stay with them (if you can't move as fast as them then you need a web to slow them down.) Once you have this it's out-gunning and out-maneuvering them for a win... and if you are in a position where you're jumping a mission runner chances are good you'll be winning. :) Just make sure you know what you're doing before you start going in to combat!

Oh, do it in 0.4 or lower so CONCORD doesn't respond.

In that video, it was kinda hard (for me) to tell what exactly was going on....but I agree, it was cool to see.

2 friends and I were getting our butts handed to us again tonight. I lost my ship once (Celestes: Gallante Crusier) and one of my friends got popped 3 times, the other twice.

We "thought" we were set up well enough to give a decent fight, but heh, we were wayy wrong. I never got a chance to see who or what it was that killed us, but in one shot, he took out my entire shield grid.

We wanted to be Pirates tonight..kinda. We were out on the hunt for other ships in .4 sec who were lurking around asteroid fields. Next thing we know....another person doing presumably the same thing warped in right behind us and kicked our butts.

A bit frustrating to keep loosing ships, but we are all cool with it, we know and understand its part of the game.

So, where can 3 guys in Cruisers find some action that wont kill us in 3 shots? In other words, were can we engage other people flying in Cruisers?

Which ships should we be striving to get in order to do some REAL hunting? Interdictors? Battleships? Battle Cruisers? Whats next????

Im really lookin forward to some awesome carnage.

Feel free to post the killmails as I'm now curious what killed you. It's under combat log in the character screen.

As for your question regarding hunting, use sniper HACs.

Well, sniper HACS don't work all that great in low sec without bubbles and small tacklers; and small tacklers just die to gate guns (which is funny to watch). SAW's corp probably doesn't have the experience or SP to field a good enough sniper fleet in low-sec. It can be done but you need more than just a couple people.

To SAW, you need a bit of a coordinated fleet to fight with cruisers and frigates in low-sec unless you can find people at belts. Usually people use a sensor boosted HIC with single or multiple points with other gang members doing the killing. Obviously there are other ways to kill in low-sec, but using cruisers and frigates is pretty much impossible really unless there's a bunch of you to spread the gate gun fire (frigates are still a no go unless they only engage blinking reds).

Haven't done faction warfare, but I hear that's a good place to start for non 0.0 frigate and cruiser fighting. Another option would be to wardec or be wardecced.

You could also go to NPC 0.0 like Syndicate (which is where I live) as there's plenty of small gang pew pew to be had and none of that pesky gate fire.

Also, do post your KM, I'd be interested to see your fit. If it's bad I'm sure we can help you :p

So tempests have a high alpha, I'm not surprised he killed you quick. A cruiser gang can take down a bs, but you have to know PVP mechanics to avoid him blowing you away in 1-2 shots each, etc. If you'd orbited him he'd likely miss nonstop, etc.

Hmmmm...Interesting.....I shall dig a little deeper into my pocket next time.

Reason I didnt have "crusier" fittings was simply due to me being overly watchfull with what little ISK I had left. Knowing that I could get popped, I didnt want to fit too much that cost alot. We werent after this guy when we were hunting....he hunted us down AS we were hunting for other cruisers to pick on.

As long as my stats are up there...any thoughts?

Don't feel bad at all, I can remember some seriously horrible fits I used when I first started this game. It's simply the process of learning. In general always always use what the ship bonus calls for. A thorax is a better ship for what you are looking to do, though if you have better drone skills than gunnery a vexor is a great ship as well and more flexible then a thorax as well as cheaper. Are you using EFT or EVEMon? EVEMon has the ability to load up what people recommend for ship fittings and then you can import them into EFT I think. I've not used it but I've seen it.

As for your skills, it looks like you are going the route of jack of all trades master of none kind of. I'd pick one ship and skill up to it really high and whatever it gives bonuses to, then branch off from it.
