The game that started it all!

I already saw some of the same responses, but mine was the original 'Adventure'- which at the time I played it was 'Microsoft Adventure'- I remember being so thrilled that I actually got that bird to chase the troll away...

'King's Quest' was my first entry into graphical games- that was actually in an 'IBM' brand package, so I assume it was part of the line of titles they were pushing with the PCjr- my first home computer.

Before that, I was playing a lot of Apple stuff at school- Chivalry, The Oregon Trail, etc.

Along with the obvious Atari 2600, Colecovision stuff, etc...

LORD was the first online game I ever played. It wasn't possible to spend too much time on it though (it was setup to only allow a certain number of actions per 12 hour period). Eh.

Best game that didn't get much publicity? Number Muncher for the Apple IIGS. I used to play the shit out of that game. Although, it's not so much a game as a test for autism. Good stuff though.

Before I had a computer, I played Simcity 2000 a lot on my cousin's computer whenever I was over there.

After I got my own computer (see sig) it was Civilization II all day, man that game rocked.

Tim I am older than you. Think back befroe home computers or consoles of any kind. My friends and I would play Missle Command in a bar in college until we ran out of money or they threw us out at closing time. The internet was a lab experiment. We used slide rules. I played Quake online a few times. Iprefer to play single player, always have. :D

2-Words Lode Runner. Me and my brother would sit by my moms computer and play this game for hours watchin the little guy making gallows to trap the guys. Then we make our own maps making it precisely so that if you drop in you'll be trapped in what we liked to call "the death hole". But we'ed always have to start over because I planted a bomb by my bro's character's feet. Good times, good times.

ONLINE: America's Army.. never really got into online games before that.

NON-ONLINE: Ultima V on Apple IIc. those were the days.

Strike Commander w/ Voice pack

And a little influence from Warcraft 1 and Civ 1

Woah. Strike Commander online? Glad I didn't know about this. I would have flunked out of high school.

The first two games I spent any significant amount of time playing online were SubSpace (it's still around as a user-supported game, and has held up surprisingly well for its age) and Descent 2 on Kahn (back in the days when you needed to use IPX/SPX tunneling software, since TCP/IP was far too newfangled for games at the time.) By far the game I've spent the most time playing online would be Asheron's Call, which I played regularly for over two years.

yep, pong was my first. was a big red console like thing with two twist knobs and it hooked into the tv.. cant believe it but think I paid like $50.00 for it.

AA Rules!!!!

X-Wing for PC back in 93'. Fudge, my grades suffered so bad my parents took away the PC. I actually drew battles of my X-Wing in action on my folders during school, the game completely took over my life. :p

Close second would be SimCity 2000. Farking crack that damn game was.

I think Diablo 2 or Counterstrike. Can't really remember, but those 2 games sucked up way too much of my online time back in the day.

Edit: Oh Unreal Tournament! M-M-Multikill! That was the first, along with Quake, always liked UT more though.

M M M M Monster kill!!!!!!!! Kill...kill........ I loved that game. Phobos moon was the bomb.

Playing: Doom
Making: "Rockm0n: Gimme De Weed". A game I made that consisted of vector style graphics where a "Chump Gear" style guy with dredlocks went on a SMB style adventure. He was supposed to be a Rastafarian on a quest to find his stolen ganja stash. The powers that be at my high school made me kill the code because of "drug glorification". Fuck them. Wouldn't let me grab a copy of it either. That was like 40,000 lines of code plus all the files for graphics. TurboPascal or not, that was a long time to work on something. And it ran well on anything 386 or higher. Had MIDI background music too. Rock and metal tracks set to a reggae style beat, which actually sounded good, believe it or not. Never got to try it on wavetable. Fuck you very much for that, Neldon!

I got into computers with Counter-Strike...but the funny thing is i didnt play half life till like 6 mos afterwards...i bought HL just for CS.

Played a lot of computer games on and on, but got real hardcore into them... three reasons

Mplayer
Half-Life Deathmatch
Rainbow Six multiplayer

Wings of Fury for the Apple IIgs. Damn that game was fun, they later ported it to Gameboy Color too

Does that date me? God I feel old..

Mine without question was DUKE NUKEM 3D. That game was my first game that started me on mutiplayer gaming. EX.. my modem would call his computer, and we would kill each other. That was so much fun.....

hells yeah!!!!! i still got and use my duke nukem 3d mouse pad that came with the game.... looks the same as the day i got it :).... haha gotta love the old school online gaming "ok im gonna hang up and set to receive then you call back and it should work" duke nukem and warcraft 2 were my 2 first online games

half-life 1.... played that more than anygame... i logged so much online time with that game... then CS came out... and well we all know about that game

First game... would have to be regular nintendo with original mario and duck hunt. Those are the first I can remember playing. First games that got me into computer gaming big time would have to be Dragonrealms (MUD, played so much in sixth grade parents made me quit). Followed by Myth II w/ WW2 mods, followed by Diablo 2 / CS, Everquest... the list goes on from there but you get the idea.

I believe my first computer game was one where monkies threw stuff at each other. You chose the velocity and power and threw something at the other person.

The first game that really got me playing online was Tribes.

For computer gaming in general, TIE Fighter was what got me started. I saw it at my cousin's house and just had to buy my own computer to play it.

For first person shooters, it was Quake 2. I had previously played Doom and Wolfenstein and Quake 1 and liked them, but they didn't ensnare me like online Quake 2 did. Then the Quake 2 Extremities Expansion Pack came out and turned my ensnarement into addiction. I loved the Weapons mod, using the streetsweeper (chaingun that fires shotgun shells) to mow suckers down.

For strategy games, it was a combination of Star Craft and Star Wars Rebellion. I know Rebellion is generally regarded as a disappointment, but I quite liked it.

For LAN Parties, Team Fortress Classic and Counter-Strike beta 4 was what motivated me to first start going to LAN parties.

First serious online gaming was Quake2 for me as well. Spent too many hours playing that over 56k.

The game I loved but wasn't real poplular was Red Faction. I loved playing that online with the Geo-Mod enviroments.

Hmm, as far as online goes.

Myth I and II were really up there, and Ultima online aswell.

I remember I'd get on B.net really early before school just to cram in some king of the hill or last man standing matches in.

I miss the old bungie.net days, though I still play online thanks to www.playmyth.net :).

Myth II was one of the few games I took a very active role in the community and joined tournaments, etc.

I remember playing in the tournament for the statue of the Mykridian(sp), but I lost on the second round :(.

Mmm gaming has so much history..
I'll share a few that I enjoyed soo much as I was growing up..

First comp was a 386 with the 5.25 floppy, awesome turbo button,
and a little dinky sound card.
Really only 3 games that I truely enjoyed on this system.

Sword of the Samurai
Pirates!
Wing Commander

Then there is that list of games I loved but
most likely no one has ever heard of them ever.

Conflict (NES)
River City Ransom (NES)
Gunstar Heroes (Sega)
General Chaos (Sega)
Guardian Heroes (Saturn)
Dragon Force (Saturn)

As for the crack that got me hooked on online gaming..
blame starcraft and then... cs v7.1

Online: UT (I got into online play late)

First computer game I played for hours straight: Ultima III on the C64.

I am not sure if warlords 2 was popular but that was the beginning of my tcp/ip gaming!

I played the heck out of Civ 2, Warcraft 2, and Baseball Mogul ... but the first game to take over my entire life was Unreal Tournament. 2-3 hours per day for 2+ years.

Best game I've played that most haven't played (or even heard of) would have to be Wheel of Time.
civ 2 is so great...i do love my civ 3 w/ expansion though. I cant wait for civ 4. Just keep the cpu load under a decent amount. Nothin worse than the last 50 turns of the game taking over a minute a piece to get to you.
