The Fallout New Vegas Thread * will contain spoilers *

Proud to report that since deleting the d3d9.dll fix the game still runs superbly! What a shocker, I was expecting this patch to do absolutely nothing, but Bethesda pulled out what seems to be a good one...so far.

Same here.

So far. *knocks on wood*

One fun thing I've been enjoying is taking my stuff to the Ranger station for repairs and then stealing all the money back from him. Last night I cleared 13K in repairs for free with this. Worst case scenario, you might need a stealthboy, but it's well worth it.

At level 22, I'm still bothered by the XP. Why should killing a mutant cow in 1 shot be the same as a Deathclaw Alpha...which takes tons of rounds and kills you in 2 hits? Seems odd that you'd need a mod to "fix" this.

Guys, hold off on patching. I wish I had left auto updates off. Restoring the original ini files does nothing but de-activate all your mods. If you try to re-edit the ini files the game is fubar'ed again. Bloody hell, nice one Bethesda. I had an eerie feeling that their bold claims about this patch would indicate impending disaster. There goes my progress.

so you are pissed off because you fucked with the original install and now an official update comes along and hoses your game?
Yeah....

Damn I never thought about that! I gave that dude a ton of caps...I need to go back now

This patch fucked the game up even more. Now some enemies are deemed essential NPC and can't be killed! They'll become "unconscious" and then come at you again and again and again....

Nice Q&A there Obsidian  This game has turned out even worse than Fallout 3. At least Fallout 3 only crashed, this one corrupts save games, makes NPC/companions disappear, makes enemies clip through the terrain, makes enemies unkillable, sigh...

Yeah, imagine my surprise when I killed a Bark Scorpion only to see Bark Scorpion is Unconscious! note. :p Might be a nice bug for those who haven't hit 30 yet since repeatedly killing something seems to reward XP. The game runs great without the .dll fix which makes me slightly happier.

The game also still randomly crashes though. Was wandering around Ranger Station Foxtrot looking for Mantis Eggs when it upchucked and fell over.

FYI I updated mine and I don't have any problems. Mods work fine and it does seem to run better with d3d9.dll deleted.

Before this patch, without the .dll file in place, the NPC issue made Primm, inside the casino, virtually unplayable, and such is no longer the case.

It wasn't a total improvement, however. Fallout 3, in comparison, runs much better than this.

Oh well.

Oh wait, hold the phone, I can't kill NPCs now - WTF?

EDIT: So, congratulations to Obsidian for taking three weeks to patch what the modding community was able to patch in twelve hours, and also for introducing new bugs via the patch.

Back to the joys of Gothic 4 for me. See ya later.

I didn't "fuck" with anything. The game was built to use mods. Ever use mods with Fallout 3 or New Vegas? It fixed a lot of frustrating design choices and made things more enjoyable. I was using the game's own ability to be augmented. Then a patch that was supposed to make things better took a huge leak all over the game. Even if I did a full cache verification and restored it to default, something as minor as editing an ini file (hint: a NECESSARY action for Gamebryo engine games) would cause it to crap out again. I'm wondering if you're serious.

I've not played the game for a good few days now, and the music is still in my head...

jingle jangle jingle...

God damnit

Having a blast, hated it at first with the bugs and the disappointing graphics. I loved Fallout 3 so I stuck with it. Now I am having a lot of fun. I tried to give the legion a chance just to see what its like but I just have to kill them, cant help myself. I did work with the powder gangers a bit as their quests were mostly against their own kind.

*spoiler*

It was a ton of fun to see the raid on their camp, explosions and troops running in like crazy. Dress like an NCR before you exit and watch the carnage.

I like that there is no enemy respawn either, I clean a spot and its clean, no messing around.

Once again the XP bar seems to go to fast. I think it should slow leveling much faster after 15. I want to be able to explore most the map and quests and not hit 30 until the end. When I am not gaining xp I lose a lot of interest for some reason.

The patch is a welcome upgrade. Major performance outside even with 8x AA and 15x AF enabled. Installed mods work perfectly.

Inside areas, especially the tunnels, are laggy if there are more than 3 or 4 AI attacking me. I might have to overclock the GTX 285 a little or cut back down to 4x or even 2x in order to remove the lag.

Other than that, I'm perfectly happy with the patch. From my perspective, Bethesda did a damn good job with this fix release.

Edit: Ok, this is weird....I couldn't get ED-E as a companion because it said I already had one. Then, out of nowhere a message pops-up "Rex has returned to so & so. You've lost his trait". Funny thing is, Rex was never recruited to be my companion...

Hmmm ED-E always traveled with me as well as a 3rd person, for some reason I thought he didnt count as a recruit. Only when I try to add another team member do things get all haywire. Maybe they tried to change that 'bug' so that he counts as the 1 companion slot?

Unlimited Companions - lets you have more than one if you like. :) Some people like a bunch of companions... I think they're buggy and annoying, so generally I pick one with a perk I want then tell him to stay somewhere safe.

Noticed the 'unconscious' bug a few times.....NCR troops 'killing' Legion hounds in Nelson over and over for one.

The XP bonus perk is a waste. I'm already at lvl 22 and haven't even cleaned off half the map. Level-cap-removal-mod soon I guess.

I honestly forgot about that game because I've been too busy enjoying this but I should revisit it soon.

There was a second patch yesterday that probably fixed some of the key issues people were seeing.

Yup, and it was a small and fast one. I almost thought it was just some Steam fart or something.

You can have one human/humanoid companion and one robotic. You can't have Rex and ED-E.

I'm going to start a new game to fully see what the accumulation of patches to date brings overall. Maybe it will fix the Kahn issue I've experienced tonight.

The patch messed up my game to where it wouldnt launch past the main launcher. I found out today when I tried to play offline at work. I checked my file integrity when I got home and Steam dl'd two missing files. There is also a new version of Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) that works with both FO3 and NV. I installed it and had to reinstall my type 3 body replacer and color pipboy mods. The game launched up fine after that. I have disabled auto updating for New Vegas so that this doesn't happen again hopefully.

I'm going out on a limb here and am going to assume that you haven't even played the game since the patch, and are basing it on what other people have said.

My game has run fine from day 1, I did the dll drop even though I wasn't having a problem in the first place just in case. The game is fun, is loads better than Crapout3 storywise.

I still haven't beaten the game, and am trying to find all the vaults and stuff before I complete the story line.

(I guess you can put this game on the shelf next to RoF that you heavily criticized because you didn't have the skill nor patience to learn to fly)

PS: I love my puppy Rex.

PS: I love my puppy Rex.

I didn't use a "premium" brain for rex. My mutt is about useless. I guess i can fix that next playthrough, as i will be able to do things in a "more correct" order, instead of how i did it this time. Hehe, haven't even finished my first playthrough yet, and won't until i get back home again.

I really need to build myself a portable gaming rig. My gaming system is just too big to take on the road. And besides, i need to build a new uber rig anyway, so i can use some of the parts from my old system for a portable system.

No .dll for me. Patch increased performance and elminated lag for outdoor areas even at 8x AA. Indoor areas are laggy unless I drop AA down to 2X.

So what's the consensus after the patch? .dll or no?

Second playthrough here, killing everyone and everything, stealing, raping and pillaging everything. I've recently started to work for Caesar.

Haha that sounds like so much fun. Going to do that with melee/unarmed on my next playthrough.

Anyone notice that killing the ants at the air force base brings the game to really poor performance?

Well 99 Hours played and I finished all 4 game endings. I'm still missing a few achievements so I'm planning to go through the game again but I won't focus on the main story since I already completed all possible angles.

I found this game to be far more buggy then Fallout 3 which ran nearly flawless for me however this game ran into many bugs.

Still good game, not perfect and I feel like Fallout 3 was a better in many aspects but New Vegas definitely was still a good game.

I just finished the game with Boone at my side via the house always wins quest line and noticed it never gave me the achievement for it. Also some of the achievements I had before like ol buddy, ol pal, and come fly with me (ghoul rocket ship quests) are gone too despite having had them before. Is this a recent steam glitch? Sigh...I'm probably going to replay the game anyway but it kinda sucks.:(

Some skills are almost pointless. Survival and Science are arguably crap, with the only reason to take Science being the increased number of skillpoints each level. Seems the enjoyment derived from the game is largely dependent on how lucky you get with your choices.

I ran into an interesting bug/glitch tonight. I was retrieving Morales's body for his wife near REPCONN and when I disarmed the bear traps nearby and picked them up, they would still be there. There were only 5 traps I believe but I quit "picking them up" once I had about 10 or so in my inventory. It's an interesting infinite trap bug if you need traps. I never really use them and they are easy to craft anyway. Come to think of it, I never use mines either and I used to use them all the time in Fallout 3.

I just started the sexbot quest, this is pretty hilarious
Where the hell is the damn sexbot? My stupid quest arrow just sends me back and forth between doors in Freeside. I have the holotape from Ralphie or whomever it is. I started doing a different quest in the meantime. I'd look it up but I'm at work and the gov't blocks anything game related.
