The E3 thread

That's $900 worth of consoles for the same amount of exclusives as a $300 WiiU.
And we just came out of E3, a console gaming conference. How many of those are coming to PC (yet to be announced) or are timed console exclusives...? Of all the games you listed, I'd estimate half of those will end up on PC.

The only way you're going to play Nintendo games is on a WiiU, or wait a few years for an emulator.

Why are Nintendo fans always going out of their way to justify their purchases.

Uh... you realize you said "Nintendo Fans" right. Fans implies that they enjoy something about whatever the subject is, which in this case is Nintendo. This is an *Enthusiast* site/forum where people talk about the things that they enjoy or are... get ready for it... *enthusiastic* about. In this case video games, consoles, PC hardware, etc. So, in an E3 thread, where all of the latest game announcements (including those of Nintendo) are being talked about, I'm guessing that there should be some *enthusiasm* about some of the announcements. I happen to thoroughly enjoy my Wii U and don't need to justify purchasing, owning, enjoying, or being (here's that word again) *enthusiastic* about it in any way whatsoever. I do find chatting with like-minded individuals about it here both entertaining and occasionally informative.

Why do people who have to justify being "so cool" always go out of their way to ruin peoples' days?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Destiny is console only.
MGS5: Phantom pain is console only.
Sunset Overdrive is XBox One.
Fable Legends is Xbox One.
Crackdown is Xbox One.
Uncharted 4 is PS4.
Bloodborne is PS4
The Order is PS4.
No Man's Sky is PS4 (for now)

It's really easy to cover your ears and say there's no reason for a next-gen console and Nintendo is the only way to go. But when you start looking at some of the things that are coming out on next gen, and how amazing they look and (more importantly) play.

Generally I would rather play PC versions if its cross platform, but looking at and personally playing some of these next-gen exclusives games on the show floor, I'm now reconsidering my schedule of when I'll own both next-gen systems.

Destiny plays great. The PvP experience was decent, but nothing to write home about. What excites me is that with the game controls I experienced put into a PvE setting seems to have a lot of potential. Devs can spew crap about "reimagining" and "going back to the roots" all they want, but if I dont see gameplay, I dont get hyped anymore.

I really enjoyed Zelda: A Link between Worlds a lot. It was amazing. I just think it's crazy how people are hyped over a pre-rended cinematic for the next Zelda. It's not game play. Even if its rendered real time, it's not gameplay.

MGS5, no man's sky and crackdown are the only games on that list really worth caring about, and I'll be damned if no man's sky doesn't come out on PC. MGS 5 may see a wii-u release, as it was already running in-engine on the weaker last-gen consoles.

Crackdown... Well... The original was freaking awesome. If they manage to make the new one similar with better graphics and a bigger, more interactive world: I'm in. I'll buy an XBone. That won't be the ONLY game I'll buy it for, but it will be the one to push me over the edge.

Heh, this is similar to me. I'll buy a PS4 if No Man's Sky doesn't come out for PC in a reasonable amount of time. :D

It seems odd to make plans to buy a console based on a minute and thirty seconds of allegedly in-game footage that doesn't demonstrate any actual gameplay, but to each his own.

I dunno, it seemed like there were quite a few cool trailers for games. Some things we've already seen, granted.

This was my issue. I didn't come out of E3 excited about a game I had never heard of.

I definitely didn't see anything that justifies buying a console. Destiny might be ok, but I can't play FPS games with a controller. Sunset Overdrive looks like it could be fun, but not $460 worth of fun. Fable Legends looks like it could be ok, but I don't game with friends, they quit gaming, so it doesn't look like a good SP experience.

I really thought this would be the year we might see something that made me go ok this is why I want to buy a new console.

Amidst the whole Rainbow Six: Siege trailer released, the kids over at the csgo subsection within steampowered forums have been giddy about this new R6. A few are hoping and envisioning a competitive R6 series ala CS. As much as I love CS, to make R6 more CS or more COD is a fucking travesty.

Here is the forsaken thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3243340

R6 is CS, CoD, BF, MoH, Gears of War, Halo (insert other mainstream shooter here). Nothing will change that because there is little money in that when you can make a simpler game like the ones mentioned above which sell more. Aside from further bastardizing the name, I thought the trailer looked terrible regardless. Very scripted, poor animations and more.

E3 2014: made me want to buy a Wii U for about 20 minutes.

That's all I can say about this years E3.

IF the rainbow six stuff we saw was not scripted, than we are looking at an awesome game, but we know not to trust Ubisoft when it comes to trailers...

That and no R6 game will beat Raven Shield.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but for me I found the new Xenoblade to be pretty interesting, and Zelda as well. I don't even own a Wii U at the moment, but several of their titles caught my attention.

I'll admit that JRPG isn't for everyone, I happen to be a fan of these games, but I do not expect everyone to enjoy them the same way I do. But that's the point, the Nintendo titles may not appeal to you, but that doesn't mean no one else will truly enjoy them and they are just trying to justify their Wii U. I'm sure many Wii U owner are fans of these Nintendo franchise and they have every reason to be exited.

Nintendo had a great E3 this year for the first time in years. Also, they were the only company to stream 3 days of footage over the internet. The real question should be, why are there people in the world that like to $hit on other peoples parade? This is an E3 thread and people are talking about e3, nintendo included.

Insecurity brings out the worst in people.

Sweet! I just noticed two more announcements on youtube linked from the FarCry4 vid on [H] front page. I hadn't heard of these yet - sorry if re-post.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - awesome! Can't wait to play the next installment in this rebooted TR series! Love the setting of this trailer - seems perfectly fitting after the brutal ordeal that was the last game. :D

Mirror's Edge 2 - I'm not as enthusiastic about this one; still never finished the first ME. Hopefully this time they make the parkour system more intuitive and give the PC version controls that aren't impossible to use.

Have they announced Oculus Rift support for Mirror's Edge 2? 'Cause...I think I'd want to try that.

I thought the PC controls were spot on. I can't think of any possible way they could improve them. Standard FPS controls really, and they were quite responsive. I don't think I ever had an issue that was related directly to the controls. Just my own bad timing occasionally. :D

I don't see any reason to doubt that the videos shown are in-game footage on NMS. I wouldn't buy a console for one game sight unseen. However, if the game lives up to the expectations that I'm forming right now, it looks to be the type of game that I could sink some seriously fun exploration time into.

Assuming I sink 100+ hours into it, it's still around half the price per hour of entertainment as movies or other forms factoring in the console price. Like I said, I'd still have to know that the game is good. It just looks VERY much like the type of game that I would thoroughly enjoy.

Also, it's not like I'd only play the one game if I did get a console to play it. It would just be the main reason for doing so. I'm sure there are plenty of other things that would be worthwhile, just not enough to push me into buying one.

I'd still rather pick it up on the PC though, so as long as that remains an option, that is the route I'd go (unless the wait for the PC version was ridiculously long.) They still haven't even said it's a timed exclusive yet. People are just guessing that based on them presenting via Sony. Also, there are more videos on their site. So there's more to look at than 30 seconds.

The learning curve in Mirror's Edge was insane for me. I couldn't handle all the chained jumps and having to hit specially-timed keys to do a 180 in mid-air to jump to the next wall etc. I still intend to give it another try at some point, but I remember running into several poorly-designed areas that took me many many tries to get past. I'd much prefer a system more like Brink (not a great example, but it was easier to play) or Saints Row 3 where you just hold down the "awesome button" and it automatically does all the acrobatics for you. :p

Hah! That does sound awesome. Just hope they include barf-bags with that package though. :p
I remember ME being one of the most motion-sickness inducing games ever when it came out. It was one of the only games I've ever had that issue with, but when I played it we were using a giant 150" projector screen which kindof magnifies the effect.

Yea, no easy mode in Mirror's edge. But I liked that. It was HARD. Hard is a good thing. 'Specially 'round here... ;)

I'm with you on part of that actually. Some of those grab-ledge-turn-around-jump-again scenarios could get a little annoying early on. It actually became second nature after a little bit though for me. I do remember a few times getting a little pissed about them though toward the beginning. :D

I really enjoyed Mirror's Edge (Hurry up with Mirror's Edge 2 already!), but I agree that some of the parts went overboard on the "trial and error" aspect. Had to play through some parts like a dozen or more times before I got it right.

The Tales series are really solid JRPG's. They dont carry the hype of FF games, but they are rock solid traditional RPGs with a encounter-based system with real-time combat.

Xilia is good, and the sequel is coming to the US this year. There is still also another tales game coming to the PS3 next year. On the PS4 horizon, FFXIV and KH3 have a lot of promise in in the action JRPG genre.

Nintendo lost the majority of the JRPG market in the PS1/N64 era. Xenoblade Chronicles was a highly acclaimed game, but if you want JRPG's, the Sony consoles have a bigger selection.

The ship loading area... Ugh..
