I see you built your Stacker BTX style. I thought about doing mine that way but decided against it.

ok heres the deal on the compaq. my whole goal for the computer was to blow peoples mind when they saw the compaq logo. im still using the cpu and optical drives that were original AMD64 3800+, everything else has been changed.

specs:
DFI lanparty sli-dr
1 gig cheap ram
7800GT video card
custom water cooled
custom case window and paint
2x 160 gig sata drives
600w psu

and yes these computer are generaly around the 1500-2000 price new, i work at comp usa where they are sold. one day it went discontinued and the price dropped to 700 so i snatched it up as a replacement to my old athlon xp 2800 computer. since ive bought it ive slowly upgraded everything in the cmputer to the best parts i can buy while still keeping the confusing compaq logo on the front. i name the rig CRAPAQ.
thanks for the interest and please post any suggestions at http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=965006

looks good tech daddy....how did you hide the front slider locker things??

I custom cut a piece of acrylic to contour to the upper and lower bays, then bent it so that is would fit over the sliders.
Some pics might help:

Used some stiff paper first to come up with the right shape:
drivepanel2.jpg

Then cut a piece of acrylic to match the paper:
drivepanel4.jpg

And then applied heat to the acrylic and bent it to the shape that allows it to fit:
drivepanel8.jpg

I then lightly scuffed the surface, primered it, painted it with a MetalCast base coat primer (for the metal flakes), and then shot the purple anodizing paint over that:

Hope this helps!

I work part time at a Comp USA and that's where I've seen those machines. The $700 price tag for that one is awesome. They aren't bad machines either, just overpriced. I had never seen a black one though. All the ones we had were silver.

Looks good.

mine was silver too, i painted it black with car paint and my compressor.
original parts on the machine were pretty nice when it was new.

MSI K8n neo2 platinum
AMD64 3800+
200 gig sata drive
512 ram =(
6600 256mb vga card
dvd burner
audigzy 2 ZS soundcard
and it was even overclockable out of the box

Yeah, they are pretty good machines actually. The problem is almost no one knows they exist so they aren't top sellers. That and the price premium is high. I have recommended them to people in the past that have wanted a high end gaming PC, but didn't want to build it themselves.

I'd take a Compaq X Series over a Dell XPS any day of the week.

I like what you did with the two front fans! How did you do it?

And how much did the Praetorian people here get their cases for?

The front fans were UV fans, mounted like that in the case without modification. I removed the front grill there and replaced it with the one you see in the pic.

Stackers just rock. I myself have two of them. Although mainly because both my rigs have Extended ATX motherboards. Still, Stackers are sweet to work with if you don't mind the weight of them.

I absolutely love all that room you have to work in them. Makes it so easy for wire managment, and adding new components!

Yep.. The STC-T01 (Stacker 1) and the RC830 (Stacker 2) are quite simply the best cases on the market.

Don't forget, there are two STC-T01's. Theres one with an updated motherboard tray, that can accept the BTX thermal solution, and it includes a 24pin PSU cable for linking PSU's, along with a chassis intrusion monitor. The original STC-T01 has a 20pin PSU cable, and no chassis intrusion monitor. The older mobo tray, was basically the same, but it didn't have the mounting hardware for the BTX module.

There is also the 810 E-ATX/ATX Only with added 120mm fan for exhaust and support for only one PSU, the 820 which is BTX only, and the 830, which is single PSU, and houses less drives, but more cooling fans. Not to mention, IMO the 830 is pretty ugly.

The newer version of the STC-T01 is simply the most versatile chassis I can think of. All standard motherboard form factors are compatible with it, and it has just about the best cooling of any case on the market. Dual PSU bays. The bastard has nearly everything a person could ever need.

True. Not to mention elegant looks and a strong, solid SECC chasis.

Anyway, I have never knew there are two revision for the STC-T01. Do you mean that the old revision is the one with the old MoBo tray + 20pin cable + no-chassis intrusion monitor?
And that the new one is the one that includes the new Mobo tray + 24pin cable + chassis intrusion monitor? I'm gonna buy the STC-T01 in the next couple of months (and gonna mod the hell out of it), so it's highly important for me, as I don't want to be fooled. I want the newest model/revision/whatever. How can I know what I will be getting?

Moreover, yes, I know there are 820 and 810 also. But they are meant for server and are just so "incomplete" in comprasion to the STC-T01. The 830 is just ugly, but I bet it will be a mass hit.

P.S - what is "chassis intrusion monitor"? :p

For my first build i could have not picked a better case plenty of room to work with which was a big help, everything was simple to install and lot's of room to throw in extra's.Luv my stacker.

You are corrrect. I don't know how you tell them apart. I bought the first one along time ago, when the case first came out. I later worked on a customers machine, and it was the second version. I looked it up on the web, couldn't find anything else about it. I work part time at a Comp USA, and I had purchased my first one from there. At the store, we have two stacks of Stackers, the original stack was from the first batch that came in, and the second stack was where I found the new one. I never did find out how to tell the difference between the two. The markings and models on the box are all the same. So I am guessing that there is some difference in UPC's or something. Yet, at the store, we have only one sku for the Stackers.

I don't know any trick to figuring out which is which. I just knew which stack of Stackers to grab from.

You're totally true. They steal the show from every Lian-Li out there. Too bad the aren't in production anymore. :(

Sir-Fragalot - I guess that the best bet will be a specific demand from the shop to get the newest revision STC-T01, or else - RMA.

I'll look at the boxes again tonight if I get a chance. I'll see if there is a way to tell them apart.
