The Altcoin Thread

I don't understand why people are so hung up about block reward halving. It doesn't magically halve the existing supply of the coin, so why would it make any difference to the value of the coin?

The only thing it serves to do is make the coin's value depreciate half as fast from that point forward from supply generation effects.

OMG! It dropped 10 Satoshis in a short period! RUN FOR THE HILLS! It's "CRASHING" ***!

*** Disclaimer: It's really not crashing. Well, yes, it's crashing in the eyes of the alarmists (and sensationalists) who think that a whole 10 point drop is somehow a crash. But for the rest of the sane public, this isn't a crash... it's a speedbump.

No, for the smart, sane people it's a re-entry point

In peoples eye's whether I or you agree with them suddenly the coin is being made at half the number so the perceived value to those people is now twice what it was. These DOGE fools believe that everybody is sitting on them and all existing coins are being held for the free trip to the moon. What is being minted each day is the only thing being traded on the markets since only a fool would sell.

Sadly those fools don't realize that every smart non fanboy out here is sitting on a chunk hoping these idiots will somehow drive the price up.

Loyalty and investment NEVER belong together. A loyal dog will get burned.

No it doesn't half the supply, but it halves any further production. So, in order for the community to keep their coin, they have to make it worthwhile for the miners to mine it. That's what I think everyone is banking on... the community effort to keep their coin alive.

But hey, once again, we're all engaging in speculation. Nobody can predict what's going to happen for absolute certain.

my TF3 7950's are running at ~670kH/s each and 1.08v using the lantis bin files.

Supposedly if I custom mod the bios files I can get them down to 0.962v, but haven't tried yet

I have quite a few TF3 7950s that I've been picking off eBay and undervolting them to .962v and they run MUCH cooler at the same hash rates. Definitely worth it, I think it will extend the life of the card not running it so hot.

OK guys.... question for anyone who uses Dogehouse.org... I just started using them again and they are MUCH bigger than they were when I first tried them... are they now sometimes slow on auto payments?

My pool account has now doubled my autopay amount and it's still not paying out. Thinking about doing a manual payment just to spur the process.

Yes, Dogehouse has been hit pretty hard lately with new users, they had some big slow-down issues for a while so now they run the pool in a lower power mode that doesn't show all the dashboard items, and I've noticed their auto payouts are a bit slower as well. I have mine set to pay out every 500 and I regularly get payments of 1000-1500. I think they're just that backed up.

I don't worry about it too much to be honest, seems like a good pool and while the payments don't always go out on schedule they are reliable.

+1 Fav pool so far. Make sure you move your miners over to the new server's

Ya I noticed. Overnight I was getting payments 3x my autopay threshold. Things have calmed down a bit since and I'm getting auto payments a bit closer to my threshold now.

I was only a bit paranoid because I was on another pool when this very thing started to happen, then the payments stopped altogether. I had 82K DOGE on that pool when the owner finally fessed up that he failed to notice a serious double payment bug and it ended up draining the pool's wallet and he could not make payments to the hundreds of miners on the pool.

I was with another DOGE pool until they had to go down for the wallet upgrade... I switched over to Dogehouse in the interim (yep, got my miners situated on the new servers) and am giving them a go for the next while. So far I'm liking the 1% fees... the other pools I've tried were either 1.5% or 2%.

I've been using fast-pool.com since day 2 ... I think they're probably the biggest doge pool out there. And they've never had any fees.

The no fees thing is appealing. I didn't think there were any no fee DOGE pools left. I was starting to think that all pool ops had gotten bitten by the greed bug and started charging because of all the miners wanting to get their DOGE fix.

But no, Fast-pool is not the biggest. Dogehouse is bigger. Avg. of about 24800 workers at a total of 22GH/s min. and spiking at times up to 35GH/s.

Well THAT was totally different.

I stopped mining on my 7950 rig for a little bit to watch a couple youtube clips with my kids. When I tried to go back to mining, no matter what I did it wouldn't get more than 27Khash/s. Had to reboot to get it to work again.

Your video card driver crash? When this happens nothing will fix it but a reboot.

Nope. All I did was exit cgminer, go watch a couple youtube clips, then go start cgminer back up. When I started cgminer again, 27Kh/s no matter what. Never got a video card reset or nothing.

This has been my experience as well. Except I'm usually putting some ridiculous tc setting in cgminer. :D. But my screen will flicker a few times then the little "your driver has stopped working" message pops up.

They might as well replace that message with a middle finger.

Okay, now that I figured out what the hell was going on with getting a second pool on the same server running and why it wasn't working, hopefully tomorrow I will get pools open up for a bunch of new coins as well as starting pools for some veteran coins too.

dogecoin has announced there will be no cap on coins, it will simply reduce to 10k per block forever

I think they are insane

imagine how fast scrypt hardware is going to be in a few years after a few generations of improvements

Wait, no cap on coins? The limited currency amount is what drives value

Yeah they are nuts.

525,600 minutes in a year so they will add

5,256,000,000 coins every year

So much for value. It will never hit a penny.

I was just starting to have a little belief in this coin but now there's no point in holding until a very very rainy day. Some of the other coins will be finished with mining and values can properly go up but this ones just gonna keep on mining. I guess they chose mining over actual currency.

There needs to be a massive selloff to make them change their mind before it is too late.

Litecoin should write them a thank you letter at this point.

CASHcoin pool is up and running... I think. :p

http://cash.poolminewith.us

Links of interest will be posted on the news site for the pool shortly (wallet, exchange, etc). Currently the only exchange trading it is a CASH->LTC pair.

Testing it now to see if everything is working properly and the network is working properly. Hopefully I'll find a block soon enough.

mpos has some nice features except one thing I don't like is they all look the same

aren't there themes out there?

also, it seems the moment any mpos pool gets even the remotest amount of load, mpos starts falling apart - it's like the wordpress of mining hosting software

be sure to update to some of the patches to prevent hacks, a lot of pools on mpos have been hacked sooner or later

You can edit the templates to your heart's desire. Unfortunately, I'm not a html genius, and my weekdays are full of dayjob, my weekend is full of taking care of my 5 kids and the house while my wife works.

I was up until about midnight last night getting the new pool up and running after spending the last three days trying to figure out why it was just 500'ing out. HTML isn't on my major todo list right now.

As far as load, it's probably because people go out and get the cheapest overloaded VPS they can and slap it on there. It's not going to run well on a 256mb vps at all. I'm honestly not certain how well it runs relatively speaking on my server, but then again I've never seen more than ~10 people worth of load.

Load is without a doubt just server power. Servers have a certain point where they are just too full and nobody seems to build a server right from the beginning. Once you get into REALLY high levels its much harder than just build a massive server.

I doubt there will be any interest since nobody is going to be pulled away from the big pools, but I could hypothetically put up some of the incumbent coins as well. LTC, FTC, Doge, etc. Obviously mining those on a pool without existing decent hash rates is pretty much pointless though.

Having them setup for a possible middlecoin type setup though wouldn't be a bad idea but you'd basically have to be a programmer to have any shot of that working. The big drawback is basically having a unique ID across every "pool"

Funny... my day job happens to be "Senior Software Engineer"... :D

Incidentally, I was looking over some of the MPOS support tickets, and TheSerapher has already said that he WILL NOT be modifying MPOS to make it multipool or multi-instance capable, at least not in any upcoming time frame. There's money to be made there, but unfortunately web dev isn't my area of expertise.

And yes, I have already looked at the possibility of shared logins across pools and whatnot. It would require a good bit of effort with MPOS and a lot of customization. Unfortunately, I don't make enough money with my day job nor do I have enough spare time already to make something like that happen in a meaningful amount of time. Simple things like that are doable, but for me to do them would be major and not very secure hacks, and would take a good amount of time to do.

Oh gawd could you imagine hundreds of multi-coin pools (if an easy to setup program that did it came about) ?

It would be horrifying.

I was watching multipool.us the other day and it switched to and from dogecoin literally a dozen times in 15 minutes. How does that benefit anyone ?!

Well shit now I dont think I am going to hold my coins. I was holding becuase there was a limit on coins. Now there is not? WTH. Probably back to middle coin now.

Apologies to anyone that tried to hit the stratum on cash.poolminewith.us. I forgot to open the stratum port on the server firewall. It's open now.

LOL!!! You sure about that now? :p

going around to all the pools I've used making sure I get all of my DOGE over to craptsy to dump

NOW we can say DOGE is tanking right? justifiable news and a downward trend on the exchange

To be fair, there is a strange increase in sale price after the news got out this morning.

Some people who seem to really know economics say this is a good thing.

At best I think it is an unproven thing that you can have theories one way or the other.

Pointed some cards at it 4 u.

Thanks! We already managed to snag a block.

Looks like there's a wallet update coming in the next day or two. Interesting coin - first Proof of Stake coin other than NXT I've looked at. It's quiet and under the radar, hence me picking it as a pool target. Right now there's really only one major pool for it from what I can tell.

In other news, KlondikeCoin has been picked up by CoinedUp, which means it's been picked up by Coinmarketcap, which means it has attracted the attention of a multipool. Network hash rate jumped from about 350MH/s to 1.1GH/s over night.
