Was it the last patch? Everyone is lagging like hell in most all games this morning regardless of ping. Something has changed. Game was running smooth as glass until this morning.

That's beta for ya. Not trying to be a douche or anything but we will be victim of buggy patches during beta. Intended to fix one thing but breaks something else.

I get that on certain servers. Ping is great, fps is great, but all the players are running around with choppy animations. I just go to a new server and it's fine.

Way to overreact though.

I get this as well. For now all you can do is report it. They'll obviously work on it.

Some servers are just shitty like that. I notice it sometimes also, where everybody looks like cl_interpolate is off. The animations aren't smooth like they should be.

you are not allowed to complain about beta performance, unless it is in perpetual beta (see google)

Yep I played on a server earlier with this same probelm (everyone on the server was having the same issue). 70ish ping and 60-80fps but it was still choppy.

i also hope they fix the bug where using AA or AF causes sound loop crash. how hard can it be? i can live out HDR and even AF, but I need my AA.

to OP ...

gone downhill is an overstatement... please check your drivers

You should know that every time Valve patches a game there's a 50% chance they break something. They'll fix it in the next patch, and then break something else a patch later.

Huh? I have no such issues, nor have I heard of them.

@ OP: I have had no issues whatsoever today like that. Maybe it's your connection having problems right now?

Where I was getting this issue before, I'm not now. I'm not sure if it was the update that fixed it or if I was playing on a sucky server, but 'sall good now.

No it has changed for the worse. It ran fine at first and now yes there is a sound bug and jerky lag at times. Unplayable sometimes really. It went from finished game to semi-buggy beta lol. Still, it is LOADS more playable than Crysis or Fuel of War lol.

No worries it is a beta they will fix it.

The thing the OP is talking about is specific to certain servers and is likely just some network issues for that server (fps and ping both fine but player updates are erratic and jerky). Just join another server.

As for Vale is this and Valve is that..I've been running at 1920x1200 8xMSAA 16xAF with everything else on high, including the expanded HDR and motion blur, on Vistax64 for over 25 hours worth of logged TF2 time without a single crash. I wish people would quit having a go at Vista and/or Valve because their system config isn't working for them. Sort your own crap out first.

Dammit, you've played an hour more than me!

I just completed my first 24 hours of TF2. God damn do I love this game!

Same here... exactly the same thing :)... works beautifully for me on Vista 64-bit with 16x CSAA+multisampling transparency, 1680x1050, expanded HDR/motion blur, 25ish hours, no crashes at all. People are so ready to blame everyone for their problems but themselves :p !

ppl are dumb as hell for blaming vista for everything before acatually THINKING. like that one guy who was blaming vista for one of logitech product not working due to driver issue in another thread.

I must be lucky, I have not had a single crash so far - 1680x1050, HDR+AA+AF. I've run across choppy servers like you mentioned, but I managed to find good ones.

THE SERVER JERKINESS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME. IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SERVER.

For the love of God it's like nobody has ever played the multiplayer part of a new game, before good dedicated servers spring up. People think you can just take a Core 2 Duo system with a cable connection and host 20 player servers off of it, while playing the game off of the same computer. Even if you have FiOS, you will get choppiness. Two things:

1. Playing a game on a system that is also acting as a server is unbelievably stressful on that system. The game gives precedence to the instance of the server's character, i.e., it is programmed to allocate its resources primarily to the player running the server viewing the game without lag. It then allocates whatever resources are left, which aren't much, to keeping the game running for the rest of the players.
2. There would be no reason for the game server industry to exist if all you needed to host a 64 player server was a 5mbit connection. Connection matters, sure, but so does server power. Even if you were playing on a Gigabit LAN, you would still have the jerkiness issues if the server is non-dedicated. Stop blaming this on the game, it IS NOT THE GAME.

With a new game, you have a bunch of people wanting to play the game. You'll have some people with good computers and good connections, some people with just good connections, and some people with just good computers. There are very few people who happen to have good computers and good connections, and fewer that are altruists to the extent that they don't mind using those computers as dedicated servers to their connections so that others can play the game, but not themself. The vast majority will have a good connection and assume that's all that matters when it comes to hosting a server. It's not.

For Chrissakes...it's a focking BETA people! It's gonna be goofy for awhile so get used to it. That's the whole purpose of releasing a beta: so the geeks can get real-world feedback on what to fix and what's working.

Then you've got 4 or 5 OS' to deal with and whatnot. So just pick a game, jump in, and if it acts weird then disconnect, reboot if need be and start over. While you're at it don't forget to send bug reports coz that will help eventually.

Valve must have done something right lately because I'm not getting the sound loop crashes nearly as much as before, for one thing.

Moral is: if you don't like dealing with shit then DON'T PLAY BETAS!!

aye. its a beta. people should realize that this could have been a LOT worse, this game is at the point many PC games are at after their 2nd patch after store release in terms of bugs.

going downhill????? the game went downhill when strafe jumping wasn't implemented in it and grenades were excluded from the game. this is a noob version of tf2. fun to play but everyone will be ready to put it down within the next month because it has no depth : <

Wow, just wow.

A noob version of TF2? Uh, hate to tell ya, but it's the only version of TF2. And in case you didn't know, TF2 equals neither TF nor TFC. No depth? It's an online action FPS, not an RPG. This one will stand the test of time, just as TF and TFC did.

Definitely, but the one's that we got are all great, so I'm content. I'm sure Valve will keep up the support, can't wait to see what they roll out next.

Yeah, they're all pretty good for now. I think tho' that 2fort is gonna become the UT2k4 "Rankin" map of TF2. IOW, played the hell out of until we get so sick of it we'll want to commit suicide. :p

Good, 2Forts is a fun map. Always has been, and was one of the original maps from Team Fortress.

i have also noticed stuttering/lag depending on the server, overall i love the game and it is beta so i understand there will be tweaking and problems..
