Upcoming MMO with real time combat.

Currently playing the closed beta. No NDA, so ask away.

If anyone is interested in this you can get an invite if you sign up for the free ign prime trial.

Next CB/release will have higher resolution textures.

I'm in as well, almost forgot it started today. Shame it only lasts til the 12.

I'm interested, I think this game has been out in Korea for a while now, so hopefully they will fix most of those bugs.

Combat and graphics seem tight for 2011 game. Hopefully i can get in beta.

Too bad swtor is stuck in 2006 mode.

This is only some basic experience so far, 3 chars to level 4 (melee tank, archer, attack mage equivalents).

It is real time combat with manual aiming, and yes the game provides a crosshair. You don't lock on to mobs by clicking/selecting them nor does it autosnap to and target whats near/contextually. So you will miss or the mob will miss if the attacks do not line up with the model (well not exactly like a FPS game, the target box is more forgiving given it is a RPG). Similarly if you can lineup multiple mobs in your attack it will hit all of them.

For instance with melee characters, the tank I tried for example uses a lance type weapon that thrusts forward, so if you do not line up with the mob it will not do anything and just miss, but if 1 is right behind the other you can hit both.

Using an example with the sorcerer, one of the first spells launches a fireball projectile in an arc that explodes in an AOE, basically kind of like a grenade in a typical FPS game, it will launch exactly in the direction you are aiming and if it doesn't hit anything it won't damage anything.

Obviously, at least in the early levels maybe it changes higher up, you don't really need extremely high level twitch aiming skills to hit anything since it isn't a FPS games. The mobs for instance aren't constantly in fast motion and strafing with tiny hit boxes or anything like that.

In terms of leveling, can't really say. I heard it mentioned in takes ~200 hours to maximize your level and it is primarily quest based. But the quests are also mostly your typically fetch/kill X amount/etc. MMO type quests. But this is just second hand information.

Would love to try it out, but dont trust IGN to make it easy to cancel that "trial".

Just have to wait and see if I get picked out of the random bin from their website signup.

I got in game and there' sthis like big ass minimap that's right in the middle of my screen, if i push esc to get my cursor up on the screen I can move it around, but there's no "x" on it anywhere and I can't figur eout how to turn it off, driving me nuts.
It's not the radar at the top, and I tried pressing M, that brings up an actual map.

Anyone know wtf i'm talking about?

Press "N." The map though isn't that big for me, you can adjust UI scaling I believe in options.

You can also toggle 3 modes of HUD visibility using ctrl+z for screens if you want as a side.

Playing a bit more, there is also chaining as another aspect for combat. You can chain some kills after certain actions for melee chars.

Damn.. wish I had gotten an invite. I still have my emails from the FTG 3/20/10.

looks a lot like lineage 2, bouncing boobies and all. Does this play like lineage 2?

NCSoft is trying to block the North America release and is suing En Masse/Bluehold claiming employees that left NCSoft took "copious amounts of confidential and proprietary NCsoft information, computer software, hardware, and artwork relating to Lineage 3" and used it to produce TERA

So maybe that's why it reminds you of Lineage :)

Anyways, I hope they work things out and the game is good. I liked Lineage 2 a lot, and an action MMO could be fun.

Is there any real pvp or is it a pve quest party? I'm digging rift again but this is piquing my curiosity slightly. Heard it bombed overseas though...?

PVP is supposedly limited in CBT1, there are duels at the moment though but I haven't tried it. I'm not sure how the actual PVP mechanics since that aspect doesn't interest me as much typically (gear/grind time advantage vs. pure skill compared to a FPS/RTS).

Regarding overseas, I've heard it is because the game style appeals less to Koreans but more to Westerners. For instance the leveling is less grind/farming based but more quest based. Also oddly, well for western markets, the overall leveling curve is too forgiving. Koreans also are more into battlegrounds/dueling type PVP than open PVP.

As for the L2 comment, in terms of aesthetics yes you can see it, the other comparison would be Aion. They actually lost a civil suit in Korea already, and the certain individuals lost a criminal case as well I believe. The next Lineage game also is a top down/isometric game now, possibly impacted by this. NCsoft also has an action oriented MMORPG coming out as well called Blade and Soul.

Last time I played it (Korean version) the game was overly grindy and felt too much like any other generic korean MMORPG. I got accepted into the Feb 10-12 beta test but its just not worth it.

staring at a crosshair all day and trying to jump aroiund to 'dodge' things would get to me...no thanks..i vowed never to play another grinding korean mmo after my experience with aion

perfect mmo formula:

aion graphics
swtor storyline
wow bgs, instances and interface
rift talent trees
lotro atmosphere, music

bingo, thats all u need..lmao !!!!

Just got my Beta Key this morning from Amazon pre-order.

Amazon doesn't charge you until game ships so you basically get the beta key for free if you change your mind later and cancel pre-order.

Is ther ea way to make the radar in the top right non-transparent?
It's just way too transparent to see stuf imo, I don't get why they have both a mini-map + radar and don't use just one for simplicity and usefullness.
The minimap is what the radar SHOULD be imo but in it's place rather then another part.

The combat seems fun but still too early, I like how you can dodge and move out of the way.

You had me until you hit the Rift talent trees. I hate the amount of redundant abilities and +1% bonuses in those trees. I think they would be well served to rip out half of everything on the trees instead of duplicating so many talents.

yea, we can dump the talent trees..apparently, tera uses a 'glyph' system ...no talent trees in tera...to me, it looks like 'floating' talents whereby you can respec all the time, depending on what you want to do..seems like a cool idea

I'm giving it a try - I pre-ordered the Digital Collector's Edition direct from En Masse and wasn't even sent a Pre-Order code... but going to account management flagged my game as Active and allowed me to download and log in on the client! So far, a GREAT experience. I figured I'd miss this first Beta. I'll give it a go if I find the combat to my liking, but if it even hints of old school Lineage style GRINDAN, to hell with it. I hope that Korea's exposure to WoW and other modern MMOs has finally shown them that there's a large population of people, in Korea and especially outside of it, that hate grinding.

Unfortunately this became an issue because pretty much you could start with ANY soul/talent spec, so they all have to have a lot of redundant basics just to make sure you're viable using any of them. However, there is a plan to clean up at higher levels so to speak, and lots of talent/soul work on the way. More than any other MMO, RIFT's devs seem to be right on top of things when it comes to making swift, beneficial changes - even major ones. Sure, not everyone will agree all the time, but I think they've done a MUCH better job than 90% of MMO developers overall, and probably are the best adjusted for time/money. It shows how their David is totally smashing EA/Bioware's SWTOR Goliath SWTOR, especially.

I've been scouting this game since last May (missed the CPE though). Beautiful game..I wish they had the full high-res textures available for us to play with.

Don't expect too much unique questing here. The thing that impresses me is the fun combat, political system, gorgeous graphics, and fluidity in the interface/controls. It feels much smoother that Rift to me and much more gorgeous.

I particularly enjoy the very well proportioned high elf and human females in skimpy costumes lol. The graphics are pretty impressive in this game. They went for the cartoon feel like WoW but it is much more "fantasy" vibrant and detailed.

I loved the world of Lineage 1 and 2 but have no desire to go through another Korean styled pure grind game.

Looks really cool though.

OK I got my beta key and I've actually been looking closely at this game for a while and was pretty interested in playing it. I generally have zero interest in Asian MMOs, as they tend to get pretty weird. This one had all the usual Asian MMO stuff: boys that look like girls, the perfect man, basically a lot of Final Fantasy-esque stuff. I accepted the weird little fuzzy animal race and etc. I actually liked the rock dude race and made one of those, however... I really have to draw the line with the half-naked 8 year old girl race. I believe they're called Elin or something? With the highly-sexualized animations and etc. rampant around this game I found it very pedophilic to have a "race" like this in the game. It's actually quite disturbing, especially when seeing the animations/skins/character customizations that have been created for these things. Big turn-off for me and being a 24 year old man, I could never allow myself to be seen playing this creepy shit.

I read the the NA and Europe Elin versions are being toned down for that very reason you just mentioned. ie more clothes

I think they are already toned down, meaning people are seeing the cleaned up versions right now

Even people who loved AION are calling this a piece of garbage, that says a lot.

Another localized TURD.

probably because I've read that the lvl'ing is pretty fast. Alot of Koreans were put off by that, but it's good for western fans.

I got into the beta myself. I must admit the graphics are nice. Still haven't got past level 10 yet. I still can't makeup my mind on the mystic or the sorcerer. Overall if you like eye candy, give this a try.

It looks pretty.

Pretty crap. People need to stop buying into these Korean mmorpg's when they have already been released for some time in Korea. These games can be tested long before they come to N.A.

Game was so bad, I don't see it getting any better for N.A.
