System Hitching/Stuttering

I've been using my new rig for a couple weeks almost and have had time to observe a stutter/hitch during different games or even when I'm just typing in this text box. I can't quite put a finger on what is causing this issue.

Any pointers on tracking this down?
 
Check your USB ports. Swap your mice/keyboard around to different USB port and see if the issue persists.

Update drivers also if that's not already the case
 
I'll my drivers appear to be up to date. I also moved around the USB ports and didn't notice a difference. I'm not sure how the USB inputs would cause a hitch in system performance, lemme know you thoughts on that.

Any system diagnostic tools that would help narrow this down?
 
Might be to simple, but pull up task manager and look at the active processes? Maybe something sucking up clocks in the background? Also- check chipset drivers, I have had a couple of wonky items that were cleared up by updating chipset or ethernet drivers.
 
Thanks. Nothing CPU extensive going on in the task manager..... and the biggest memory consumer is just Firefox.

I think I have the latest chipset drivers for my Asus P8P67, but I'm having a hard time telling for sure from the Asus support site.

I'm currently adjusting settings/timings in the BIOS. So far, I've made the hitching worse :) So I might be on to something, but I'm not 'conversant' with BIOS settings.
 
I'm trying drivers directly from Realtek. Sound seems to be the common denominator with these stuttering problems and even in testing the sound it is all crackly.

You made the hitchin' worse due to BIOs adjustments? Try setting the BIOs to default.
 
Just put BIOS back to default as you suggested. Going to test it out. The Realtek drivers didn't help, same problem. Something is definitely funky with the sound, it is crackling in all apps. Seems like some sort of conflict.
 
Same problem with BIOS at defaults. Any other ideas for troubleshooting?
 
Is your BIOS up to date?

I see you use CFX, have you tried disabling it or removing the 2nd card?
 
Tried disabling Xfire. No change. Next step is updating the BIOS, there is a new version available from ASUS and it says it addresses compatibility issues.

What's the best way to update the BIOS? I can't remember the last time I tackled that.
 
You're on Asus P67 so I'd go to their thread here in the Intel motherboard forums both for flashing tips and your issue (if the BIOS doesnt solve it). I seem to remember some having bad luck flashing from Windows so be careful. I also think clearing CMOS was pretty important after flashing.

I hate to break it to you but you might want to read about your C300. I had the same issue.
 
I upgraded by bios to 1503 and it didn't really seem to make a difference.

Tell me more about the C300. Maybe I need to focus in on that next. Perhaps a driver or firmware update for that? I did do some reading on it and didn't find anything similar to stuttering/hitching/crackling sound.

Read the 006 thread on Crucial's website. There are a lot of reports of the very same stutter there. The reports of this stutter started almost as soon as they released the firmware. There is a thread here with a registry tweak which seems to have helped for some people. I also saw a post from a Crucial rep on another forum that mentioned that a new firmware with a fix is in the works. It took long enough to even acknowledge the problem. They released 006 a long time ago.

Just google "Crucial C300 Stutter".
