I am a bit confuse about sysprep on Windows 7.

Just changing my father's motherboard from 760G to a 880G motherboard.

Do I select "OOBE" mode or "Audit" mode?

Also do I use generalize?

Thanks. I'll try that and will report back with results.

oobe is that "windows first time setup" screen that XP and onwards used, iirc?

/oobe = out of box experience
/generalize = remove drivers

i think you only want to remove the drivers

Oh dang. Just finish sysprep with oobo and generalize. Well I'll swap the hardware and see how it goes. I also had to clone my dad's tiny 160GB to a new 640GB hdd. So at least I have the old hard-drive to fall back on.

Actually I am force to pick either "OOBE" or "Audit" mode and generalize is optional. Haven't test my dad's build yet. I take too much time cable managing.

OOBE will bring you to the out of box experience (giving the computer its first username etc.) . Audit mode will allow you to reboot still make changes to the system to prep it then when you are done you wouild select OOBE

Thanks for the info.

Yup it seems those who meantion OOBE mode will create a new username was correct. I was force to make a new username and PC name however after I was done I deleted the username I created since my father's user name was still there.

Everything went pretty smooth after the new driver's install.

Thanks for the help everyone!
