Supreme Commander Thread!

Hmmm well this makes no sense. Dual screen monitors are not working for me. They work fine in windows, but in supreme commander theres not even an option for a secondary adapter. In the video options there is just "Primary Adapter", no "Secondary Adapter" option. Am I missing something?

Irony, in GPG chat theres a guy asking about this right now. Your GPG name isn't "Fidelity", is it?
If you are, im ilkhan.

so we determined :)

Still wondering what nullzero (and any other players from [H]) have as usernames

[H] clan FTW!

My GPG name is nullzero... Regarding the dual screen its bugged I talked to a dev about it they are working for a fix on it next patch. I guess the graphics upgrade this latest patch broke the dual screen for most people.

We need a name then. I tried to create one the other day under HardCommanders and [H] but it said abbrev already taken. I dont know if it accepts brackets though. I wonder if we can do just "H" as the abbrev...

My GPG account is logged in on the server, and Im at school ATM. So I cant test so much.

I cant seem to fix the black screen problem. Every time I try to join a server the gpg.multiplayer.client.exe crashes. If I try and host a game it still crashes but will continue to load the game and then I can play in sandbox mode.

I've tried disabling antivirus, firewall, opening router ports, updating video drives, updating windows in general.

I also don't have the nvidia network program they mention in the FAQ, but I do have other nvidia chipset software installed.

I tried adding the gpg.multiplayer.client.exe to the safe list in windows firewall but it doesnt see anything in the gpg folder??

Success!
H was "already taken", so took HC. HardCommanders. I figure it fits the game anyway.

Nobody is online ATM, but sent friend invites to nullzero and pharacon. Accept those or let me know when you are around and Ill invite you to the clan.

i'm VectorSC on GPG.net(Vector was already taken  , oh and the SC stand for Supreme Commander of course)

I usually can play in the afternoon/evening (EST)

Which AV program are you running? I have read on another forum that UNINSTALLING certain AV programs fixed this issue for some people, wheras disabling the AV program didn't help. Not exactly a friendly fix, but it seemed to work. :(

*Can't speel*

I wanna try the game out, already have my key. One thing, will I be able to even play the game? My connection is limited so I don't want to waste a bunch of time downloading if I can't play.

Here are my specs:

Pentium D 805 (2.66 Ghz Dual-Core)
1GB DDR400
XFX Geforce 6600 GT
Windows XP Pro

If anyone has a similar setup, please let me know how it runs! Thanks.

I'm running NOD32, but I'm not about to start uninstalling security software to get a beta to work... There has to be some other way. Or I'm just going to wait 'til they fix it. How did they manage to mess up the open beta release so bad? I was playing 2.7 with few problems...

Mine is fairly similar except I have an Athlon 64 3200+ in lieu of your Pentium. That said, I have to turn everything down as far as it goes, but I run at 1680x1050 just fine. It hitches a little bit when I get in to the later stages of 4+ player games due to the high unit counts, but it runs well enough. It doesn't look too pretty without all the eye candy turned on, but you'll be able to play the game at least. Plus, I spend most of the late game in the strategic view anyway, so the lack of graphics only comes in to play when I have to zoom in and micromanage things.

You should run SupCom just fine on medium to low settings. The dual core cpu you have will help a ton in performance.

Considering that it's a Prescott running at 2.6 Ghz, not so much. Still, it will work.
The game is, if not heavily, then at least quite a bit multithreaded. So your duallies at 2.6 is going to perform better than a single at 3.2-3.4(at least).
Either way, if its s-T, looking into if your mobo supports a C2D...

SupCom is multithreaded and since my 3.4 single core prescott can run it on medium settings he should be able to do the same or better.

I think you'll be fine, for 1v1 games for sure. I have been playing on a 3200+/1gbram/6800gt without too much slowdown. I have been able to play up to 1v1v1 (3 person FFA) games without experiencing debilitating slowdown, although it does slow a bit late game when lots of units are around. 2v2 games can be little too much for this system. Also, it seems playing on a smaller map helps significantly due to less ability to build up.

Does any one notice how units will often be very unresponsive?

Also, after going up against a Fat Boy, I think they're over powered, They out range everything and do just much damage it's not even funny. They weren't even a threat before 3.8 but now they're insane.

Also, doesn't mass seem way ot hard to get?

Havent tried the fatboy in 3.8. But it was one of my favorite units before then.
Mass was made harder to get in 3.8. Lowered the t3 extractor and t3 fabricator production by 1/3. And really, no. I have a replay of a guy who had over 1k of mass income by the end of a 2 hour game. Insane, but most was being used. 20 T3 engineers each helping 3 silos, several factories going all out, and a couple of experimentals too.

Fatboys are very powerful but have a huge weakness... Make strat bombers or t2 gunships (T3 gunships if you UEF.) You will see how fast they take out the fatboy. The key to killing a fatboy is air bombardment.

yeah mass has become incredibly hard, it feels like you have to rush to t3 to get enouph mass to build t2 units

What's the ram usage on this thing? I have 2gb of ram and I (STILL!!!) get slowdowns whenever iTunes switches to a new song. Very annoying.

I dont get any extra slowdown when winamp switches to a new song...and Im only running 1GB.

For me also I can not connect to any game. Have tried everything, firewall off etc.

FireStormGS: there's a known issue with the game wanting a copy of msvcr80.dll in either the c:\windows\system or c:\windows\system32 directories. Copy the one from the GPGNet subdirectory over, and you should be fine.

Lothar: if it appears to just hang at the "Connecting to Server..." screen, make absolutely certain you aren't somehow blocking port 6112. The game needs that port open. (I think there's also some netcode issues as well, but I've definitely run into this issue myself.)

Ok, sweeeeeet.

Thanks to everyone on Page 19 for your quick, and detailed replies :)

non-stop fun last night!

i was playing 2v2 assassination mode. it was an even match till i got 4 lvl 2 trrop ships behind one of their bases with lvl 2 guys. Their com is standing right in the middle of their base so i forucs my attack on him and kill em as he is trying to run away! took out 1/3 of his base too :D

The game goes on for another 30-40 mins with the last guy pushing against us but still its pretty even match, then all of a sudden i notice on my radar about a million scout planes. of not realizing that in the middle of that mass was a transport about to com bomb me. Figuring i'm safe in my base with my comm i'm happily making bots to smash his defense and win the game.

Then it happen my base turns bright white, i quickly start my com running but its too late he goes off as well! Wiping my base from the earth (had a secondary so it wasnt that bad). Then we get a victory screen and the guys says we where playing assassination? and i reply back, yeah that way people dont do lame crap like com bombing :D

Thanks for the suggestion, it's still a no go tho :( .GPG.multiplayer.client.exe still crashes as so as i try and join a multiplayer game.

owned.

I need to start playing online a little more. Mostly going to wait for release with an occasional game before then. After release Ill get my new laptop and be able to play decently...or, whats a 3800+ X2 cost these days...

i read somewhere that theres a console command/.ini edit to make the screen rotate and stay in one position.

I just tried it default in 3.8 and looks like they still havent added that feature. is there a way to do it that anyone knows of? i cant find the original link i had explaining how to activate that feature

home/insert? sounds like what you are looking for...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is paying for a Fileplanet sub the only way to get a key?
