Supreme Commander Thread!

There is no need to spam metal makers/power generators like in TA since upgrading your extractors give you more resources at almost half the coast.

I finally beat beat a balanced AI, which took quite a few times. I still would like to play a 1v1 if anyones up to it.

Got dual monitors working :).

How!?

I would love to know :)

The option just says "secondary display: disabled" for me.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm dumb and i need to read the entire thread more carefully next time.

I was working a balanced AI over on my third skirm (first two were with "easy", which isn't) and the game overheated my CPU

I was walking a GC into their base with a CZAR cruising in behind it, and a swarm of those nifty seige bots and tech 2 mobile AA just for fun.

I didn't get to play much with the submersible battleship, though...it tangled with a fleet before I could build its escorts. Am I right that it's a tech2 shipyard?

has anyone figured out how to speed up contruction? i mean nuke launchers take 80 mins!!!! i tried putting them next to buildings and have multiple Engineer's have at it but nothing seems to work.

i have noticed it build land factories next to land factories and air next air naval next to navel you can decrease build time, ie 3 naval factories next to each other battleships take only 15 mins instead of 30

There's a way to link buildings, but I haven't figured it out yet. I've seen the AI do it, though. As I understand it, powerplants can be linked to a factory to reduce build times.

If you economy can handle it, more builders helps a lot, especially subcommanders.

Thanks, worked like a charm, now downloading the 2.7 patch! :D

If you're playing the 2.0/2.1 version, you'll need to do a couple of things:

1) Before the patch, restore your lua.scd file to the original version. The patch seems to recognize that it's been modified and won't write over it.

2) After the patch, you'll need a new fix, which was already posted in this thread (it has "ANGRYVULCANS" in the filename)

AMAZING GAME, QUITE FUN, BUT SOME UNITS TAKE A HORRENDOUSLY LONG TIME TO BUILD. the tech3 subs take like 365 minutes....a little extreme i would say, and the battleships 30 mins each, i started to put my power generators next to my builds to decrease production times, as well as clustering builds together. but it still takes wayy too long. the AI is churning out units like nothing. any tips/guides or something would be nice although i don't expect much since its only a BETA.

by the time you get to tier 3 units like BS's and Sub's you should have like 50-100 engineers.

Definately need some tweaking in this game in terms of balance.

Im pretty bad thus far (getting better!) but last night i was very close to losing a game and barely completed a FatBoy.... This unit by itself was responsible for taking out their entire team. Now i know im playing against AI and all, but its range, sight range, and power are unbelieveable. Add onto that the fact that it has shields and the ability to create units and viola! game winner.

I had the same problem a few of you have had so far too - after a while my game turns into a slideshow on my laptop (Specs below) and i really dont think my laptop is underpowered. I think it just has to do with some beta coding for units and just how much is going on in the battlefield. Just needs some optimization done!

yea i didnt think of that... its shield is really powerful though. i kept a few L1 engi's in it at all times repairing it and demolished everything :D

Did you know you can upgrade your commander?

Try clicking on the button to the left of the build options that has a picture of the commander. You can upgrade 3 items, left arm, right arm, and back. Pretty neat.

Balance issues need to be worked out, for sure... Anti air turrets do little or nothing if they aren't the tracking type. The planes dodge 90% of the bullets.

Also, try building the flying fortress if you're Aeon. It's like the ship from independance day :D

This game rocks! only prob is the AI crack kinda kills your frames after about 15 mins or so :( but the AI is a pretty good opponet. My friend and i do 2v 1 med AI and man its tuff unless you uber turtle. but then it starts sending TONS and tons of super units. its crazy :D

cant wait for the next update hopefully they will release the AI to be tested it's a real fun game. and it looks to be easy to mod so hopefully we can have SupCom DOTA!

yea the CZAR (Aeon Ship) is awesome....

i also have been noticing the dramatic drop in frames after a while... anyone found anyway to get around it or if its related to # of people in game or anything?

all in all, everything from the unit descriptions to the animations are awesome in my opinion

no it has something to do with the AI itself. i have played 1v1AI and 2v1AI and 2v2AI and 1v1 and the only one that works great is 1v1. after about 15 mins with AI it starts to lag out. there maybe an infiniate loop or mem leak going on its because the longer you play the laggier it gets to you grind to a halt 1fps style :(

but thatt just makes me power build even more so i can whip out a lvl 3 artty or nuke in about 12 mins now :D

My CPU alarm starts going off after about an hour skirming with the AI...that's when I start losing frames

It's kinda weak, though...I've found it's really good for launching a massive aerial assault and positioning it above their defenses so that it makes a big hole when it gets shot down. The thing's too slow and soft to be very effective actually assaulting a base.

But that big hole it makes is nice for running a bunch of Harbingers and heavy tanks through, followed by a Colossus to really scare the pants off them.

Can't say I really like the UAE superunits. Gonna play with Cybran next.

wtf did i miss? is the game out or is this a demo?
lol no, its only the BETA. and damn this game brings my PC to its knees after like 1hr of playing, im goin at~10 fps

This is very much TA updated. One of my favorite games ever, but this is going to need optimization and I will probably need a new computer to play it.

Note: Easy AI seems damn hard to me. Balanced seems quite stupid if you want a chance to actually roll out the neat stuff.

fp hides the god damn month-month plans. i hit the wrong fuckin plan i guess and they dinged me $40. i hate those fuckers... still waiting on my ticket. no wonder they don't have phone support.

runs like total ass. even everything set to low or off and at lowest res still runs like ass. wow.

Welcome to beta testing :D

We all knew this was going to require some serious equipment for it to look good. SC is going to scale with new hardware for years, I bet, and given Taylor's history I wouldn't be surprised to see some major graphical improvements a year or two down the line if it does start looking a bit dated.

This game is going to drive a lot of upgrades in the next year.

i hope the single player is long as fuk, fingers crossed for godly story.....

I would say to enjoy this beta with no lag you need a dual core processor, 2gig of ram, decent video card ex. 7600gt or above.
Im running this setup with Supcom on dual screen and it runs smooth as silk even in this beta stage.

CPU: e6600 oced to 3.5ghz
RAM: 2gig
VIDEO: 7900gt

Does not use both cores, atleast it doesn't on my Opty 170.

so anyone figure out how to enable the lan play / skirmish on the newest version. i have been looking at the lua files and have modified them but it does not quite seem to work like the last version (2.7)

got the patch, (it wasn't up yet when I posted that), and yeah, no skirmish/lan crack for v30 out yet.

And yes, it will use both cores. Hell, it was one of the demo programs for quad cores...
edit: Im uninstalling the game, deleting the remaining folders, and reinstalling v27 until the v30 crack is released. I still want to play!

Well it wasnt useing both of my cores, just one. I know other games that use bother cores fine, one is a beta that I cannot name due to NDA. I have a G15 so I can see what each core is doing while playing.

sounds like you need to improve your cooling m8

you might have probs down the line.

strange. the game can definently take advantage of dual+ cores...
I have no ideas as to why it wasn't using both then.

edit: been watching this thread grow, it has some of my screenshots in it. In game shots of almost every unit, especially the navies and experimentals. The ones from ilkhan.com are mine. http://garage.gaspowered.com/?q=node/7129

Crazy thing is, it's always passed all the tests I threw at it. I couldn't make it overheat when it was overclocked, and I've since restored it back to factory settings. Guess it's time to take it apart and see if there's something different :(

Wish I could afford the AMD system I want, but mobo + cpu + ram + vidcard = too much cash
