Looking for a submarine game.
I like MMO’s but single player will be fine too.
I currently play Navy field.

Silent Hunter III got kick ass reviews from pc gamer. Make sure to d\l the patch for it it adds alot of new gameplay to

You did not specify if you wanted historical or modern, strategy or sim.

If you play Silent Hunter 3 you are doing yourself an injustice if it does not have the Grey Wolves mod installed. Silent Hunter 4 is passable and has tons of great mods too. Silent Hunter 5, while looking pretty, was obviously rushed and included Ubisoft's heinous always on DRM.

I currently play Navyfield and have a KMss3 and US ss4.
For subs that is, but I was looking at silent hunter.
Which one would be good to play? I like WW2 type battle.
I’m also trying to get a new tank game working but there are a lot of bug.
So which on 3, 4 or 5. Game play, learning curve, and keeping my interst?

Thanks

The only trouble with the Silent Hunter sims is that (time and again) the developer cynically released an unfinished game, didn't do much to fix it, and then even had the audacity to say that it was the mod community's job to do so.

Oh and they tend to make a habit of using the worst DRM method currently available at the time of release. I bought Silent Hunter 3 ages back, but the version I have has Starforce copy protection. Does anyone know if there is any way of removing it, or is there a version available that doesn't have it?

Avoid Silent Hunter 5 like the plague if you don't like Ubi's DRM scheme that requires constant network connectivity to their servers.

Silent Hunter 3 and 4 were good games back in the day. As was mentioned previously, Silent Hunter 3 came with StarForce, and both needed small tweaks to fix various bugs. I guess it would boil down to which theater of war you liked - WW2 US Pacific sub ops goes to SH4, while WW2 German Atlantic sub ops goes to SH3. I'd be curious to find out if Steam versions of SH3 still come with StarForce.

I have SH3 d/l from steam. It runs on my Win7 netbook just fine, didn't notice any DRM attached when installing.

get SH3, great game even without mods

SH5 was just too buggy and i will rarely use the term buggy for a released peice of software (most games have minor bugs, SH5 has major bugs eg. AI boats just crashing into the shore, etc.. etc..)

It depends on what aspect of world war 2 subs you want also. Silent hunter 3 is great and deals with the german subs and is great with mods, while Silent hunter 4 is good (better with mods like was said) and is the US subs in the pacific.
I like playing both so i'm happy with it.
I do remember playing one of the earlier silent hunter series (forgot which one was in the pacific before 4 lol) and taking literally 2-3 hours to creep into tokyo harbor, sink a carrier and damage some other ships, then creep back out while under attack. Not much of that intensity in games anymore i think...

Actually, the Uboat mods for SH4 are pretty damned good too, wfalcon.

Never did pick up that add-on - the idea of Uboats in the Pacific just seemed too odd.

I would love to see a remake of 688 Attack sub though.

Indian Ocean not the Pacific...and its historical correct there were a few U-Boats that operated in that theatre (Type IX class).
