Street Fighter 4 Thread

Just picked up my copy from GS. Played a little on lunch. First impressions are :

-Plays a lot like a good mix of SF2+3rd Strike.
-Super Fluid
-Super Fun
-Very Crisp controls

If the net code is good, i think we have a real winner on our hands here.

Just got my copy! called every target, best buy, walmart, game crazy, etc game stores and gamestop... nada BUT just one gamestop :D
sf4.jpg

For those in the Boston area. The gamestop in the Cambridge Side Galleria has tons of copies. Left there about 2 hrs ago with my ps3 copy.

Stuck at work for a few more hours though!!!!!

I forgot all about the netcode. Hopefully it's on par with HD Remix. For a game with 1-frame precision, it did a damn good job of reproducing face to face with online play on the PS3.
I've still got another 2 hours of work and a trip to the gym I have to make...but after waiting 10 years I figure another hour won't kill me. Zangief is apparently top tier, so I have no fears about picking it up quickly.

My only goal in SF4 is to make people shiver with fear when they see Dan in an online match.....

maybe or may not happen, but i will damn well try

I used to be pretty damned good with Dan in the Alpha games. My Ryu tends to be very aggressive and pit-bull'ish so Dan's moves weren't THAT bad for me in many cases. The main thing you have to remember is that you can't do any of the fireball/uppercut stuff. You have to walk forward a lot, use a lot of pokes, and remember that you can clear projectiles by jumping straight up. He's never going to be top tier, but I won some dorm tournaments with him back when I was in college. There have been tournament-level players that will play with him on occasion.

I dunno about SF4's tier listings yet but I know Zangief is widely consider to be among the best.
Most of the tournament footage I've seen is from Japan and there seem to be a lot of people using Ryu, Rufus, Crimson Viper, Zangief, and Sagat.
There was a video where some American players got to try the game out early and they claimed that Rose was insanely strong because of her super attacks. They mentioned that Dan wasn't as bad as expected, too. The footage shows that Dan is always moving his arms in a weird kata-like way. Pretty funny animation that might actually help him out with disguising normal attacks.

Damn. No one here has it. Guess I have to wait until tomorrow :(

Those of you that got it ......BASTARDS!!! GS, Bestbuy, CC, Toys R Us won't get them til tomorrow. Fucking Arkansas.... My Movie Gallery told me that they got their final shipment in and now signs of SF4. Oh well, have fun with the game and post some feedback or possibly screenshots.

Love the iPhone, checked out my area after class and called up the GSes and one had a few available for walk-ins. Picked my copy up and got in a few matches in arcarde before someone interrupted me online (I know I can turn this off) and so I tried online for a bit. Overall I'd agree with the guy a few posts above about a mix of SF2 + 3rd Strike and it works extremely well. I'd consider myself just below average but I imagine I'll have a lot of fun with this game.

Oh yea the loading times on the VS screen on the PS3 was longer than I'd like so I did the optional install and it helped out a lot.

If anyone wants some casual play then you can add me my PSN id is rp1p.

Tell me Domingo, you got the TE stick didn't you?!?!

Yeah I whooped up on some cholo's online already. My problem is that most leave after getting owned in the first round.

who's top tier?

Sagat, Zangief and Ryu are top tier. Sagat is a god.

Balrog, M. Bison, Chun Li, Akuma, Blanka, and Rufus are upper middle tier.

Ken, C. Viper, Dhalsm, Abel, and Guile are lower middle tier characters.

E. Honda, Fuerte, and Vega are bottom tier. No information on the new console characters.

edit: actually here's something more "official".

Top
Sagat, Akuma, Zangief, C.Viper,

Upper
Ryu, Balrog, Blanka, Rufus

Lower
Dhalsm, Chun Li, M. Bison, Abel, Ken, E Honda, Fuerte

Bottom
Vega, Guile

I don't know. My local stores don't have it until tomorrow. Make sure RGB full range is in the appropriate setting. The game does have an "inky" look, the PS3 color palette is identical to the arcade and the X360 for that matter.

Does anyone know if Tournament Edition sticks are available anywhere? All gamestops seem to be sold out. Are they even carried in BestBuy or CostCo stores? Hell, I might even make the horrid journey to Wal-Mart if I could find a Tournament Edition stick!

Also, anyone with the TE Stick - can you confirm it works on all platforms? I hear the 360 edition works on the PC and 360 without any special drivers? What about the PS3 version? Is it possible the PS3 and 360 version are interchangeable?
Thanks

Hadouken! Haaaaaaaadouken!

Man, sux that I'm busy with my courses and midterms. Otherwise I'd have this game. Ah well...I have l4d to keep me occupied in the interim.

I ordered the ps3 collectors edition on newegg 3 days ago. My order got deleted for a few hours today and wouldn't show up. Now its back up and says that its on hold. When will they ship it?!

Excuse my ignorance but is this 'tier' system a table of effectiveness? If so isn't that gonna very subjective to the skills of different fighters or is this supposed to be compiled by an expert with all characters?

I'm using Vega mainly in HD Remix so a bit shocked to see him bottom of the pile in 4, see how it goes I guess.

I'd say Honda was the most powerful in HD Remix anyway, the fat twat is nearly unstoppable in the right hands.

i have the ps3 version and i'm lukewarm on the graphics. everything just looks really washed out. maybe that's how capcom intended it to be.

Might wanna check your setup, because SFIV is one of the most colorful games there are.

ughh....

Street Fighter > Tekken

*flame on

Eh, i like them both a lot and play them both religiously. But if i was on an island id have to take Tekken too. :D That being said, my SF4 copy isnt getting here till friday :(

well, i got to play for only like two hours last night fiancee complaining too much lol ill prob get more time today during lunch and after work.

I love the game so far, i only played as ken so far because i remember moves from when i was a kid lol, i havent played in years and it was pretty fun to jump right in.

I played a little arcade mode and a couple online sessions.

The online play was fun, I didn't experience lag. I only won one match and got beat pretty bad on a couple and some were close. I know my skills need a lot of work NOT TO MENTION playing this game on the regular xbox 360 controller kinda sucks, so I will have to deal with it until my fight stick ships from amazon. :(

If anyone wants to play with me online that is not of SUPERB Skill, hit me up

I played it a bit last night and I'm honestly not sure I like it. It's a LOT closer to Street Fighter EX than anyone let on. Linking moves is much harder, which is nice, but the speed of the game, extra animation, and the general look of the game match EX more than 2 or 3.
I haven't messed with every character yet, but El Fuerte doesn't seem to have much going for him. Rufus is annoying just because he's so big and his blocking scheme is weird. Crimson Viper seems really strong. Abel has a lot of potential, but I think he'll take practice to learn.
For the older characters, Honda's very different. He's almost like a mini Zangief now. Bison's pretty much the same. Ryu/Ken are just like in EX3. Zangief's piledriver is amazing. It'll grab out of almost anything again.

I'm going to give it a lot more time before I judge it, but after day 1 I'm not sold. SF3 took a little while to grow on me, so maybe I'll end up liking this one more as I improve. For now, I'm wishing they just called it Street Fighter EX4.

yeah Zangief is overpowered, pile driver, pile driver, pile driver. lame.

i had a blast with the game so far, of course i have a nice learning curve since i havent played Street fighter since, street fighter 2 and I was about 9-10 years old then and im 26 now lol. i kno once i get my joystick im going to be in more bliss!! :p

lol yeah i destory El Fuerte with Ken. I played someone online and an arcade match against El Fuerte lulz.

I repect someone for choosing Fuerte, but I think there will be a steep learning curve with him. Back in Alpha 3 everyone thought Guy sucked and as it turns out, the world champ annihilated everyone with him. Fuerte might be great, but it seems like it'll take a lot of practice. He has a move where you have to hold a single kick button for 4-5 seconds and then he does a Balrog-like shoulder ram. I can definitely see people mixing up those dashes and that move to do some wacky stuff. Until people get used to him, it seems like he just runs into too many attacks. It'll take some practice to learn to pinpoint stop and attack with him.

For Zangief, the game's in-close nature just seems to favor him. The banishing flat (especially the EX one) combines with piledriver mix ups can be a little much.

One thing that weirds me out is how well the CPU Abel can nail that tornado throw. That alone lets me know that he can be scary with some practice.

Played for about two hours last night and made the mistake of turning on live arcade challenge request.

Umm...i got into fights about 26 times with different people...lost twice because i was experimenting with the new characters and i didn't know their move set. so i'm 24 - 2 with a bunch of medals. Ken is still almost unstoppable if u just keep pressure on your opponent. Zangief is a lil bit OP but very beatable if you know his weaknesses. Sagat is just way way way OP. of the 26 matches, my 2 losses were against sagat and those guys weren't even THAT good.

this game is a blast...i was in 10th grade when the original SF2 came out and have been a fan since then with all the iterations that came out of that game. basically owned all of them. If you encounter someone online that loves the game and was a fanatic like i was back in the days...its gonna be tough to beat them. this "halo" generation unfortunately does not have the appreciation for this game like the old school peeps like me do.

Abel is my favorite of the new characters thus far. I have yet to play some of the rest...

You're completely correct about Abel. With enough practice, I believe he'll be a top tier pick for sure. Given that the tornado throw is devistating + the falling sky grab for the people who like to jump in - it'll be all over!

I turned off match challenge after 5 minutes. I couldn't even complete a round with the CPU before getting challenge after challenge.
The characters I see with a ton of potential are Abel, Viper, and Honda.

Oh yeah - for the PS3 owners, INSTALL THE GAME ASAP! The load times are kind of long if you don't. After installing, it cuts all load times into 1/3.

Justin Wong (for those who don't know, 6 or 7 time Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 world champ, probably best overall fighting game player anywhere save a few people in Japan) says Fuerte may be the best in the game, he has an infinite, he says it's incredibly hard to do consistently, but unbeatable if you do. I am so glad Zangief is good, I haven't been able to play a grappler in ages. And Sagat is good, but I don't yet see what's so overpowered besides him being good vs. Zangief. Also, in high level play, learning to abuse/combo the Focus attack will be crucial.

I agree with you, mine is CSHawkeye81. lets spar!

One weird thing about the game is that there's a little "halo" around your character that makes them stand out from the background in a weird way. Granted that helps with knowing hitboxes and not losing track of your character amid the more chaotic levels...but it does take away from the visual appeal.

When I picked up my game, they accidentally charged me for the ps3 version. I told them that I wanted the 360 version and he kept stating its better on the ps3. Was kind of funny as 3 gamestop people ganged up on me and really thought I would be intimidated and be persuaded by them... lol

yeah man i hear you guys, im def one of the older guys from the street fighter game era and not the halo era..

Im going home for lunch in about 30mins or so cant wait to get my game on =)

Any tips guys for someone who hasnt played in like 17years =)

Also I have the xbox 360 copy so if anyone wants to play with someone who is Rusty as a 17 year old knife that has been left in the rain, hit me up xTweakeRx

:D

46" sony bravia 1080p. i think it's just the way capcom intended it to be. for me, i'm not that impressed with the visuals, especially with some of the stages.

im playing on a 42" westinghouse and it looks sick! :D
