Strategy Gaming Going Multi-Touch

I was half expecting them to lock eyes then start making out

Yeah if you ignore the guys, the game looks freaking awesome. I lost interest in RTS games since the second Red Alert. This might bring me back into the fold.

Question remains, what touchscreen computers exist now that can handle this game? HP TouchSmart is a little weak in the graphics area IIRC.

multi touch cool, but WTF is up with the guys, looked like they just spent 4 hrs plucking their eyebrows to stare in each-others eyes

I've used multi-touch tech at work for years, and would never want it on my pc. When showiwing/discussing something at home, and someone is unable to point at the monitor without smearing their greasy mitts all over it makes me wanna break some fingers :)
Not my usual style of games, but that one actualy looked interesting, but I didn't see any advantage over conventional controls.
To each their own, not every feature is for every user

Try a dual-screen setup... one for multi-touch and the other for display only. It works well.

What I'd really like to see is a a keyboard with a touch LCD in place of the keys. That way any key could be anywhere and have any appearence. I think it would cost a lot less to produce than that customizable kb that was selling for over a $1000 recently, and would be infinitly easier to use that sitting there all day with your arm stretched out in front of you

HAHAHAHA damn!

Anyway, the interface is neat, its gimmicky, its something that I will never use like that. To me it looks like shoulder injuries in the long run, and way way slower than keyboard + mouse.

Plus I am demonic about fingerprints on my monitor.. so I guess its not for me. Sorry for the not being so impressed. It looks cool though.

PS: Happy weekend everyone.. *opens beer (a few hours ahead here in Europe).

So so lame I don't even have words. Google earth battle!!!!!!!! ghey!!

I don't know why some of you fall for this shit. The game screams gimmick, like those crappy wii games not made by nintendo.

Hah, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought they were a couple trying to start some foreplay.

Looks kind of cool. But/..... nah. I doubt those screens are good to the touch and the screen would stay clean after the first 10 minutes. You probably won't be able to see much after the first game.

I was waiting for the loser to get up and punch the winner's LCD. Kind of like those sore losers that get's mad when they lose.

Neat but multi touch faster/more efficient in strategy games than mouse? Unlikely. It's easier to move your fingers than your hands/arms.

After using a touchscreen phone for a couple of minutes I always find myself trying fruitlessly to wipe off finger prints. I'd be *pissed* if my desktop screens got fingerprint smudges all over the place.

So until someone makes a monitor that doesn't show fingerprints and cleans itself, I'll pass.

I'd be at my monitor/phone with a microfiber cloth and a cheapo bottle of LCD cleaner constantly. I just can't put myself through that.

WoooOOoOOthere goes microing. Hands are still gonna cover up more than a cursor.

looks cool.

wanna get my hands on that MS Surface d&d proof of concept that was on penny arcade a few days ago though

I think multi-touch gaming looks really cool. But O prefer a keyboard and mouse. In adition you need a special monitor for multi-touch to work and what about those dreadful fingerprints smudging up the screen?

Not to mention hands blocking more view then a cursor. Not good for microing, but who knows?

Lets be clear, that is double touch not multi-touch.. Get to 6+ points and you have multi-touch.

I dunno it still seems a decent mouse i.e. microsoft or logitech would be better. The logitech 518 I have is solid. Weighing how imprecise humans are I expect the mouse to stay around for quite sometime. It's the same reason the mouse trumps the analog stick for controllers. Even the best surgeon could benefit by using his whole hand instead of just his index and thumb finger.

IMO that would be really annoying. You'd get no feedback from typing, and since I use an ergonomic keyboard, it'd be even worse trying to do it on something perfectly flat. I remember once I got a roll-up silicon keyboard, and I'd imagine that the LCD keyboard would feel about the same.

From Wiki:

Gorilla Arm

Gorilla arm was a side-effect that destroyed vertically-oriented touch-screens as a mainstream input technology despite a promising start in the early 1980s. Designers of touch-menu systems failed to notice that humans are not built to hold their arms at waist- or head-height, making small and precise motions. After a short period of time, cramping may begin to set in, and arm movement becomes painful and clumsy. This is now considered a classic cautionary tale to human-factors designers; "Remember the gorilla arm!" is an industry term for "How is this going to fly in real use?".[14] Gorilla arm is not a problem for specialist short-term-use devices such as ATMs, since they only involve brief interactions which are not long enough to cause gorilla arm. Gorilla arm also can be mitigated by the use of horizontally-mounted screens such as those used in Tablet PCs, but these need to account for the user's need to rest their hands on the device. This can increase the amount of dirt deposited on the device, and obstructs the user's view of the screen. In addition, using a screen on a surface can present cervical RSI issues (i.e., the user can develop neck pain after using it for a period of time).

Mouse + Keyboard for me, thanks.

This reminds me of those cell-phone TV ads where one guy always gets unlucky because he's using the inferior provider, whereas the other gets everything and always says "Hey" to the first guy.

that's pretty cool, however, I'd MUCH rather see game developers start supporting 3D input devices (http://www.3dconnexion.com/) especially with RTS or FPS games. They're generally used for 3D modeling and such, but in gaming it could really revolutionize how they're played.

Multiwinia is the first (and only AFAIK) to support it and it really adds a lot to the experience.

Or at the very least, it would be cool to see 3dconnexion or indy developer release some sort of middleware/gamepad emulator for it

Greasy teenagers may sadly dictate whether the rest of us get cool multi-touch technology.

"Mom, I can't use the f'ing monitor cuz of all the fingerprints!"

Ever hear of soap and washcloth?
